Just finished listening to the re-mastered version of this album. Super underrated.

The word gen means "illusion" or "apparition." In India, a man who uses conjury is called a genjutsushi ["a master of illusion technique"]. Everything in this world is but a marionette show. Thus we use the word gen.

It may be the production or guitar work, but sometimes this album reminds me of Testament's "The Ritual" from the same year. I think this album is decent for what it is, and certainly can understand what direction Exodus would have headed had this not been the last album before the hiatus. Two things which disappointed me slightly-the vocalist sometimes attempts to sing, and for me it just didn't work at all, and the fact that the album is like twenty minutes longer than it should have been. That said, there are a few very well-written songs here, namely "Fuel for the Fire" and "Architect of Pain".

Architect of pain is clearly the best song here, indeed.
Unfortunately, the rest of the album is too bad.

I thought the two primary purposes for the internet were cat memes and overreactions.

Not as bad as some people say. It's maybe less thrash than their other albums, but the songwriting isn't half bad. My main gripe is the production, which utilizes way too much echo, and naturally since it's an Exodus album it's over 60 minutes, some versions over 70 minutes long. "Me, myself & I" is a great song.

You've got a lot of guts. Let's see what they look like!
