System Of A Down's Hypnotize continues the chaotic, genre-hybridizing experimentation that defines the band, building on a framework laid by its predecessor Mezmerize. Released as part two of the double album project, Hypnotize is a hyperkinetic journey through heavy metal, art-rock, and politically charged commentary. It channels the band's signature 100-mph shifts between blistering breakdowns and soulful melodies with doses of Armenian folk music.

This album is my lullaby. I listen to it every night in bed. Such great songs.

Woah!? I'm a female? No way! You're far too observant. Tone that down a bit.

Maybe their weakest effort but still great imo.

Holy Mountains raises it up considerably, such is its power.

This album is bad and there is no reason to explain it away. The songs aren't what SoaD is known for in the past and listening to this album is a huge compromise, where you get something new (if you haven't heard it before) which isn't good though or just different (worse) songs than on their other albums. The songwriting has fallen apart and pretty much the whole album sounds like filler to me. Maybe after taking such a break they have now from releasing anything would help them release something worthwhile again?

Like I've discovered with all SOAD albums, this has it's good moments, musically it's actually pretty decent in parts, "Holy Mountains" and "Soldier Side" probably the stand outs for me, but the songstructures in general seem a wee bit on the messy side, so as usual I found it lacking in consistency.

I've tried my best to get into this band, but unfortunately it's not happening for me, I always found their experimental weirdness to have a wee bit of a Frank Zappa vibe, only I've found their songwriting at times to be atrocious, and the vocal style has always put me off slightly
