Steven Spielberg of Thrash Metal \m/\m/

mmm no

VoiVod have way way way way more artistic integrity than Steven Spielberg ever had.

True. My post was positive for the album, m not making fun of Voivod's artistic integrity by comparing em' with Spielberg. For me, Listening to Voivod's album is like watching "AVATAR" in 3D and its good.

The storyline of Avatar was totally stolen from the Pocahontas story, whereas VoiVod was/is totally original (like you said) and one thing which cannot be said abotu Spielberg is that the guy is original. Spielberg's stuff is sugary stuff for the masses whereas VoiVod has bite and is for the happy few.

You guys should once try watching AVATAR's Action Scenes (Keep the movie mute) with Voivod's music in background.

This is a good example of a band that knew how to make their music Progressive without diving into endless wankery which is a real credit to these guys as musicians and songwriters. This album also has a weird atmosphere around it as well.

This may be the bands best record, I'm tied between this and Dimension Hatross (which possesses all the above qualities as well) and could decide on which is better with a coin flip, Its that close.

Also Avatar is crap as well

For me Killing Technology comes second to Dimension Hätröss (which they will be playing in its entirety at Roadburn this year, I can die a happy man afterwards )

I saw them right after Evoken (they overlapped a little but I still had 40 minutes of Voivod to enjoy). I basically just knew them as this thrash band that was kind of "alternative" in their later years and it seemed very cool so I checked them out. Goind from Funeral Doom to thrash was kind of a change but the guys had such an energy and stage precence that they pretty much switched my "gloomy mode" to "thrash mode" in seconds, not to mention the great images that were showed behind them with the huge projector.

Great band and from what I saw they are great guys too, came down the stage to greet some fans right after they ended their set.

Yeah, I was definitely surprised, which just made me even more excited while seeing them. At that moment I really needed to have classic metalhead fun after being crushed by a doom metal a few moments ago... Just headbanging and enjoying thrash.

The storyline of Avatar was totally stolen from the Pocahontas story,

Have you seen FernGully: The Last Rainforest? It's a kids' movie from 1992, but I think the similarities between it and Avatar are pretty indicative that Avatar's plot has little originality.

On topic:
Just ordered this album! Now it's up to the seller and mail wizards to get it to me so I can enjoy.

Since there is no official review I am giving newcomers a little info to go on. No song by song though. Killing Technology is the 1987 release from Canada's Voivod. The first of an incredible 3 album run that truly put Voivod into their own genre. Quantum Physics Metal is how I describe their complex arrangements and subject matter. Voivods first 2 releases were pretty straight forward thrash. This is where the band found their own unique identity and moved away from being just another thrash band. KT still has a major thrash foundation while at the same time guitarist Denis "Piggy" D'Amour expanded and experimented creating a sound unheard before at that time. I highly recommend this to be the first listen to any newcomers of Voivod so you can follow the progression. I would also recommend another 1987 release Celtic Frost's Into The Pandemonium.

I could hardly manage to listen to the entire record - this style of thrash is poison to my ears. Still, lots of creativity here.

Bold move to use the word Killing in the album title, and I guess it did some good for this album and put the band in more of a Killing mentality which was missing on the first two albums. I'm not super fond of the material, but I must admit that it's at least going in the right direction. I'm trying to think some words to bash this album with, like I did with the previous ones, cannot really come up with any as the album is alright.

Everyone was using Killing or Kill in their album titles at this time so not exactly bold!

Killing Technology was my introduction to Voivod and is still my favourite. War and Pain is my 2nd favourite but unfortunately for you, it sounds like you just don't like early Voivod.

That's true, but if you put Kill/Killing/Killer etc in the title, the album has better be good or else it looks ridiculous and you lose face.
