This is wild.

I agree, but in a good way. This is the stuff I am looking to find in the MS Awards.

The psytrance passage in "Organic Hard Drive" really drew my attention but it didn't confirm in any other part of the album....

Well, I take back what I've said in the past... This album rivals Draconian - Under A Godless Veil for my album of the year.

This album exceeds any expectations that I could have had. The last album was already dope, this one just takes the cake.

I had never heard of this band before the MS Awards.
The phrase "I did not see that coming" comes to mind a lot when listening to this album.

Just few days ago I didn't know this existed. It wasn't on top 20 so I guess it had less than 20 votes. And now out of sudden it wins in 3 categories and is top 1 of 2020.
Excuse me what the fuck

I'm not sure about boring, but I don't get the praise either. It's an intriguing listen, but it's also too much all over the place. Some fragments are excellent, others are a slog. Some songs have a great buildup and a satisfying climax, while other songs are just buildup with no fulfilment at the end. Plus I have no idea why this won in the prog metal category, because it has little to no metal in it.

I agree completely. I like this album, but I am struggling to locate any metal in it! Isn't it just prog/psych rock?

I see this has been mention a few times here, but I don't really see the issue with it; it's not constantly metal by any means, but I would say there's pretty clear alt/prog metal presence on all of the longer tracks (Anamnesis, Organic Hard Drive, On The Way, Face The Sun, Zenith), whether in specific sections of the songs or more constant (the parallels between the opening song Anamnesis and the approach Tool took on Fear Inoculum are pretty glaring to me). For this to not be considered metal, the likes of recent Tool and Riverside would also have to not be considered metal, which could and I'm sure has been argued, but there wasn't any debate over Fear Inoculum or Wasteland being eligible for nomination in their respective years that I saw, so I don't see an issue with this album being nominated.

I agree with you mostly and don't have a particular issue with the album's nomination for an award, but the 'heavy' passages in the album smack of vintage hard rock to me. I think this is where this band are coming from to be honest. This is ok - I am a big fan of that 70's hard rock sound - and I'm not pedantic enough to say it shouldn't be on metal storm because you have to give credit to those early hard rock bands which paved the way for the development of heavy metal itself.

For me, Tool have retained a heavy element in their sound which is probably more akin to modern post-metal than prog and therefore could still be described as a heavy band.

Anyway, I'm just being pedantic and procrastinating on Metal Storm is going to cost me my job!

Yeah that's fair enough, it does straddle the heavy rock/metal border a lot of the time for me.

There has been an incredible improvement both in the songwriting and in the variety of the songs, I really don't get how this album has almost the same average score of their previous one. Nice surprise also for me

Just found this album because of the awards it won (and had to check it out based on the artwork). The music really matches the artwork, this album sounds like a soundtrack to another world. It's one of the most refreshing prog releases I've heard in a long time.
