So I did, and so I saw. It backfired on them.

They knew the production is shit since the first single, why couldn't they remaster it. Its sad as the compositions are really well written

On first listen, I have two issues with the album: the muddy production and how underutilized Kristin's vocals are. I'm baffled that a band with so much musical depth would release music in a way that makes it difficult for the listener to distinguish individual players. Especially during the "loud" moments. And even though I had issues with Pacifisticuffs, some of its strengths lay in Kristin's range, which I felt was either lost in the production or simply not used to potential.

Honestly, though, if you can get through the production issues, the songs themselves are excellently written and the typical DSO energy is there.

I sadly agree with the statement above. But Jig Of The Century has some really nice Bohemian Rhapsody vibes to it. My favourite song of the album.

Everybody everywhere seems to be complaining about the production on this.
Meanwhile me, a black metal conosseur, didn't even notice it

But in this type of music the production can really bring it down. Much more than in black metal.

Honestly I'm not bugged by the production quality on this at all. What bothers me is they made such an awesome comeback with Pacifisticuffs and then this album takes a huge step backwards. They tried to incorporate too many influences, to which I gotta give them credit, but they didn't play to their strengths at all. Super disappointing.

When the first half of the record ended, I was wondering WTF it would be like in the last tracks. I felt the listen quite messed up and too distant from the sense of a metalish sound I was expecting from this band (I never dug their material to have an overall opinion about them, to be honest). 2 more listens and I can say this is surprisingly good for someone who don't enjoy too much experimentalism in metal. It could have been much better if it just wasn't that, though. As someone has pointed out, they put together too many influences and that caused a little lack of cohesion throughout the album.

War painted valentine has such a Primus vibe to it. Also their silly stuff sort of undermines the songs that are really sung well.
