What happened to my beloved Into Eternity? This surely isn't them...
I just can't believe I'm ranking an IE album so low, but they just left me no other choice.

Lyrically - yes, I agree with you (although partially).
However, in terms of music - it's just a mess.
You can argue this is "too prog for me", though I highly doubt it. You can't say this is more complex than Buried - which I absolutely adore.
It's like they've taken all the musicianship out, and left all the transitions hoping that if they use more we won't notice there's much less here.

Bullshit. IE are great musicians, they have a huge songwriting talent and play a highly original metal, neglecting no metal genre in the insane melting pot they came to establish as their trademark. Though not as superb as The Scattering Of Ashes, The Incurable Tragedy can't be rated anything below 6, average, except if it simply is a matter of taste. "They've taken all the musicianship out" is not a suitable argument.

It's not an arguments, it's an opinionated feeling.
They didn't REALLY take the musicianship out, obviously, but from my point of view a band with such talent can put a little more effort into a new release, and not just repeat what works.
You can also argue that it's just a matter of taste - I see that for example you didn't like Buried in Oblivion like I did. This is the benchmark I gave this album, and was disappointed when the things that really made Buried click didn't return here.
Eventually that's just my opinion. Take it as it is.

Right, I guess people who, like me, prefer The Scattering also like The Incurable Tragedy. Buried In Oblivion is pretty blah to my taste, though it obviously is a great album in terms of songwriting and originality. Much more progressive and less extreme.

Damn guys this is good stuff. Obviously I rated to skew results but still a solid record.

This album is great! I see influences here from all over the metal world...Stu's vocals once again prove that there are no boundaries. My only complaint with this album is the recording quality- the guitars could have sounded a bit better.
