Razor is one of the bands that came out of the exuberant class of Canadian thrash metal scene. Alongside other Canadian hellraisers such as Sacrifice, Exciter, Annihilator, and Voivod, Razor decided to record an album that is more abrasive, contentious, belligerent and monstrously headbanging, namely Violent Restitution, in 1988.

I couldn't agree more. Only problem I had like with other old albums is the production. Other than that there's not one boring track on that album. This is RAZORs finest thrash moment.

There is simply nothing like these aggresive high pitched screams of terror I fucking love Razor's Violent Restitution cuz it destroys your brain cells and gives you cold shivers through the spine.

Great album. Even for a non-thrash fan like me it's highly enjoyable.

If you're looking for Razor's finest moment, it has to be either this or Evil Invaders.

The three albums they've released with Bob Reid on vocals are still good they lost something when Stace McLaren left. He gave them a more visceral sound whereas Bob's vocal delivery is more perfunctory.

I'm still really looking forward to finally seeing them live in London in a few weeks though!

One of the funniest thrash metal records I have ever heard in my life. Just when the other bands tried to get more complex and technical, these dudes refined their already balls-out intensive approach to the absolute perfection. These songs are short and dirty and mean and they will kick you in the nuts, my friend. But at least you'll be having fun while having the best musical beating of your miserable little life. Razor knows no mercy.

Now while I'm at it: I love that McLaren guy they call "Sheepdog". The dude has some sick vocals with high pitch screams and stuff. It's awesome. I love it.

Returning to this album every once in a while and wondering: Is this maybe the only album where I always go like: "What, the 14 tracks (and actually they are 15!) are already over, why dont you just keep on playing!?"
What a beast of an album.

Nice! Can't wait to read that. I like that you're pumping out reviews for the old thrash classics. Keep it comin' man. You even gave a little nudge to Nasty Savage in your last one. Doing the holy (or unholy) work.

Thanks, Guib. Your gigantic The Metal Art of Thrashing assists me to know it better. As I initially said, I came to know about Razor from your honorary list, and it helps me to find more info on unearthed thrash metal classics from your Wikipedia of Thrash Metal.

You know my drill. I've been highlighting to the best of my ability knowing these classic gems which were once carpeted under the massive guns like Slayer, Megadeth, Testament, Anthrax, Nuclear Assault etc etc...should get recognised and what better ways to write for them.

This is peak Razor. The next two are also good but they never had a vocalist as good as Sheepdog.

The next two are also good...

Certainly, but never akin to Evil Invaders and Executioner's Song. Open Hostility was more impressive after what Violent left me with no choice to get blindfolded in awe of classic thrash fucking metal.
