Didn't like this one.. lacks the bizarreness that overflows in their other albums...

This sounds like Black metal with Ambient hints, but not even close of being as interesting as it could...

I disagree completely. Although it's my first album by this band, I enjoy this a lot. The atmosphere is great.

Such a standard album, the sort the black metal genre was already oveflowing with back when this was released. Totally unremarkable and totally forgettable

It's not really hate. Just the truth. For me it's an ok to good album. Actually, there aren't many things that BAN has done that I'd consider bad. I'm just saying that I will never get the hype behind this album and the others BAN released in a similar vein. They ARE standard and anyone saying that they are unique in anyway just haven't heard enough BM.

And once again you fail to understand the meaning of "hate". This album is a standard melodic black metal album which is totally ununique, anyone saying this is a unique album probably hasn't heard any black metal music in their lives. It is not a bad album, it's just bog standard.

BAN is quickly becoming one of my favorite BM acts. The atmosphere of this album is totally amazing; desolate, cold, haunting, and on tracks like Rigsthula there's a calming and dark serenity to it. If you're going to put this album next to "standard" BM of the 90's, I'd say it sits well above most.

I think it's cool Vindsval was my age when he wrote and recorded this, but I don't really like it. It's very standard, boring, and easily forgettable. If I remember correctly, his other project called The Eye did a better job with this style, but I may be mistaken.
EDIT: I just checked and it says I gave Supremacy a 7. Now I'm thinking I should re-listen.

After many years, I could never get into Ultima Thulée. The production was putting me off. But after I decided to ignore that a bit, it clicked. The fuzzy, not very clear production actually works for the whole atmosphere, despite being a very riff-driven album. And holy shit, what an awesome album! One of their best in the atmospheric department. Perfect album for a rainy day.

Not their best but still very very impressive for a debut. I have come to appreciate this album and the sophomore a lot more in recent years. The riffing is great for sure but hella unoriginal. The cold synths really do wonders to elevate the songs as well as the production. It might have sounded the way it sounds due to limitations of budget but it does give it a slight mechanical feeling. A good contrast for sure.
