One of the most influential bands in Death Metal released this Masterpiece called simply "Leprosy", an intense and raw album wrapped in brutal powerful riffs, insane (with a little Thrash style) drums, good bass-lines, awesome cover, and the most powerful vocal style in music.

The album opener "Leprosy" starts with a great progression of riffs and drum beats, then a chilling scream settles the atmosphere for the song, a brutal intelligent song with incredible fast and complex fillings (those in the minute 1:50 are the best ones), crazy ascending solo's clean bass-lines, catchy drum beats, etc?The tempo goes from slow to catchy then to Brutal and so on, this is one of the all time favorites for all the Death Metal fans all over the world.

There continues the saga of Death. The deadly topic of the lyrics is still there, but the main and most important ingredient of death metal is gone - the vocals. Chuck Schuldiner, being a true thrash vocalist, doesn't betray his nature and after torturing his throat on "Scream Bloody Gore", he sounds still very brutal, but not so convincing. From modern point of view, this wouldn't be an impressive performance, although brutality in the face of Cannibal Corpse still exists. For its time this would be one of the rawest vocal performances. However, the album is fast, technical and the vocals are not quite death, so I label it thrash.

I really forgot how much I love this album. Had it at 8 before but fuck it.

I'd hate to berate straight outta the gate, but You still have it at 8, mate, You need to re-rate before it's too late.

EDIT: What an incredibly silly comment. That poem must've sounded great in my head last night, while I'd had a few... LOL

I first didn't like this album. I prefered the progressive style of Death's later albums. Now I've listened to Leprosy again and it's just as awesome! One of the best death metal albums ever!

I know this is one of the first true death metal albums released, a long way from the sound of their later albums, it must of sounded absolutely Brutal back in it's day, it's still a classic even now, and with songs like Pull The Plug, and Left For Dead the lyrics were insane!

Just like to throw it out there that I've got the original Combat US gatefold pressing of this beaut and it's worth a small fortune!

I recently bought a brand new turntable and it sounds awesome. I hate how the modern trend of remastering everything fucks with these classic recordings.

End it now! it's all too laaaaaaaaaatteee!
I love that part... by the way, Pull the Plug is basically the death metal version of One - which also came out 1988

One of the best death metal albums ever, goes without saying. The combination of more simplistic and straightforward style plus the unique ripping production is an absolute blast.

I love this Death album. It is full of great riffs and a rotten atmosphere, but curiously it makes me happy to listen to it, it fills me with vitality, which seems like a contradiction.
From the album cover to the last chord and back cover I like them.
If I have to stick with one song, which is very difficult, I would do it with "Forgotten past" with some great rhythm changes and some catchy yet crushing riffs, Chuck's voice, the drums...perfect! !

Only 8.6 is criminal, deserves far more considering how hard-hitting and influential it is.

Still brutal as fuck even to this day, love modern death metal but it just doesn't have the same punch to it that albums like this had.
