If you haven't noticed by now, France is fast becoming a hot-spot for experimental black metal. Over the past 10 years the ears of several unsuspecting victims have been all but abrogated by the likes of Deathspell Omega, Blut Aus Nord, S.V.E.S.T., Diapsiquir, Peste Noire... and now, Reverence.

Finally, Reverence have delivered the album they always had in them. A richly veiled exercise of varied, deeply textured, winding and intelligent modern black metal, deriving influence from contemporaries Deathspell Omega and Blut Aus Nord but ultimately creating something all their own.

At this moment in time Reverence truly embody and exemplify the sound of French black metal.

There is a (little little) bit of Enslaved, but it's there nonetheless

Where?

The riff and vocals in the song Those Who Believed sound like Enslaved to me, so sue me, lol

I can understand spotting a riff and saying "this sounds like so and so", but most typical black metal vocals sound similar enough and comparing bands based on a single riff from one song is a bit of a stretch if you ask me.

Far be it from me to tell you whether or not how you compare bands is "right" or not - I just think it's odd to base similarities on something so insignificant.

I can see your point. You need to pat me on top of my head like a little child and say I need more black metal experiance, young one. I will compare all black metal to Enslaved cause they are the only ones in my discography (practically).

I don't think this is any different than a newcomer to atmo-sludge/post-metal comparing everything to Neurosis or Isis.

The way the riffs progress and the keyboards in the background in Cold Room and Those Who Believed sound a bit similar Enslaved's songwriting, but don't get me wrong if someone asks me to name bands that are similar to Reverence I wouldn't mention Enslaved at all. I'm just saying that there are some Enslaved moments

EDIT : scratch the keyboards -.-

Amazing album. Very interesting to listen to. I like the not-so-raw guitar tone and the dissonant riffs.

Listening to this after the latest Merrimack release. With that contrast handy, this album actually seems great. More dynamics and a better atmosphere.

I do not get how this album is "industrial". It is maybe due to the fact that I am an industrial and black metal noob. Good album btw

Same. Barely a couple of thousand likes on Facebook. There are shitty local bands from my town that have more likes than that.

If there was an album that just repeated "The Descent" for an hour I would be perfectly happy with it. Seriously Reverence need to put out another fucking album

I've been lately into traditional sounding black metal but I think it's time to remember how much I use to love the modern approach bands like this one shows. Later I'm gonna jam The Great Old Ones and finally The Meads Of Asphodel for the first time.

This album shows a perfect musical synthesis of Blut Aus Nord and Deathspell Omega, which made me revere this opus ever since it was released. The Deathspell Omega-esque songwriting style successfully crafts a dark and eerie atmosphere. Reverence also added a slight amount of jazz influence into their sound with Blut Aus Nord-inspired vibe to create a labyrinthine musical layer, resulting in establishing the successful unpredictability of the musical pattern in structure.
