My Favorite Atmospheric Black Metal Albums (WIP)

This is a favorites list, not a guide or anything of that sort. It just highlights the albums that I've enjoyed listening to and spinned extensively since last November (When I got into this monolithic genre.) One entry for each band. The descriptions aren't necessarily descriptions of the music. I just wrote what came to my mind. I will update with new albums frequently.
EDIT: Got to 50 entries, so I guess I'll stop for now. I want more time to revisit these 50, get into the other albums of the bands listed below and delve into other genres of metal. I guess that taking a break from black metal (at least new stuff) will ensure that I won't get bored of it. It is likely that I'll continue this list by the half of July.

Of the three Lantlos albums you chose the one i don't like
Other than that fantastic list, every other album on here is good

Honestly, I didn't listen to the two others

More of an Encyclopedia than a "favorite albums" list, isnay?

That's just what i was going to say.

Anyway, I haven't heard about a dozen of these so I'll checkout a few.

After multiple visits I thumbed up your list. Why? Because I keep finding out more great stuff that's on here and I pretty much like everything I've found thus far, so good job.

Atmospheric black metal is becoming one of my favourite subgenres as well I think. I'd choose Ashes Against the Grain instead of Pale Folklore though.

I assume you don't think Summoning or Caladan Brood fit this list? I also have a few suggestions:
- Ancient Wisdom - For Snow Covered the Northland (full album: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQ01varbpFs)
- Midnight Odyssey - Funerals From The Astral Sphere (full album: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d6heH6b22wA Keep in mind that this is a very long album)
- Thurisaz - Scent of a Dream (almost full album: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wlkW53GyXEI&list=PL10C82DDF502489E7)

All great albums, so definitely check 'em out.

First of all, I'm sorry for my late reply but I haven't been very active recently. Thanks a lot for thumbing up the list
As for Summoning and Caladan Blood, I consider them to fit the list, but I still have to give both a listen sometime soon.
I've heard of Ancient Wisdom, Midnight Odyssey and Thurisaz. After your recommendations, I will surely give them a try. It's pretty funny that I can't find anywhere to download that Thurisaz album. It's quite hard to find. Maybe I'll have to opt for youtube (which sucks here BTW).

Not sure if you're familiar with Vordven, but I've been listening to their debut just now and it sounds absolutely fantastic.

They need to be added to this list ASAP if you ask me: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KpL2MsJk0yo (from 13:55 and onward).

You can thank me later.

I couldn't help but notice the lack of Gris' more superior album: "À l'Âme Enflammée, l'Äme Constellée..."
Is there an explanation for this?

I'm seeing now that he wasnt active for a long time. Shame though, he seems to have good taste all around.

He wouldn't listen to anything with a Satanic theme though. Tbh, he was a bit weird. He came into the taste in had in a bizarrely short amount of time.

Maybe atmo-black was exactly his kind of music so was he was hooked instantly? To be honest, in my first months of getting into black metal I also listened to tons of albums and knew my taste right from the beginning, so I dont see anything weird about it. But then again, black metal wasnt my first encounter with extreme music, as I have listened to quite a lot of death metal before exploring other genres.

It's hard to recall exactly, but I think he went from knowing nothing about black metal, to only a few weeks later talking like an authority on it. That was the odd thing; it felt a little forced and weird for someone to go from acting one way and then another. Wasn't just that, it was a few other things that made him an oddity. Definitely not a bad guy, though.
