This grabbed me. Oddly, like a battle cry...to purchase this record

Saw this album performed live (Except for the last track) last night in Orlando when I went to the Deafheaven and Alcest show. I already had the CD so I knew the quality of the music, but man they were so good live too! They were friendly chaps too.

This was the first black metal album I listened to, and I loved it... any similar albums? I'd like to get into the genre.

Check out last year's Woods Of Desolation album, and pretty much any of Alcest's recent ones too.

On the whole this kind of thing isn't really representative of black metal but it's certainly one place to start.

You might also like Wolves In The Throne Room (especially their latest), Lantlôs (more so their debut), Les Discrets, and Amesoeurs.

God this is such a good release, can't wait for the next one.

I just keep coming back to this album.

Fucking crap.

Gave it a listen for the first time in years. Was much better than I remembered actually. I also remembered all the controversy around this when it was released and when I actually was active on this forum.

Actually this is very good.

Sound as I know this band and even started to like it. its good, maybe one rare truly good album from this band , more BM as any gaze here

Yeah it's unfortunate we'll never get another Deafheaven album like this again. The transition from atmospheric post-rock/shoegaze to black metal assault at the beginning of Violet is permanently ingrained in my brain. This album was a huge inspiration to all of the music I've ever written.
