Caladan Brood's Echoes Of Battle sounds like Summoning. There, now we've got the most obvious thing out of the way and can proceed. Echoes Of Battle features competent songwriting, an epic soundscape, good vocals, some catchy riffs and also, it is not very good.

OK, I know I have already lost many readers due to that last statement, but for those, who choose to stick around, allow me to explain why this album isn't all that great.

First time I hear this album I think It will sounds average. But more and more I listen this, this actually beautiful perfect.
All songs are so great especially 'Wild Autumn Wind ', 'A Voice Born of Stone and Dust' and, 'Book of Fallen'.
"Echoes of Battle" is IMO Influence from Summoning. Thanks to them. Without them this album never perfect.

So bought this CD, trying to rip it to my computer and all the tracks are the tracks of Summoning - Stronghold.

Apparently the fools at Northern Silence thought CB to be a Summoning clone as well.

Anyone else had the same experience? Because I'm 100% serious about this (it seems like a joke, after all).

Link the page to the one you bought. After all I need a copy too

I bought it here. A couple of months ago I bought Limbonic Art's debut at the same webshop, which was the re-release and apparently the record company TOTALLY fucked those up too because the sound quality was utter shit, the tracks weren't in the right order and not all the tracks were there. So never buy that one if you're planning on doing so. But of course that's not the fault of this webshop.

Can't stop listening to this.. People are comparing this to Summoning, which is of course correct, but consider also Empyrium's "Of Moors and misty fields" - To me this is a perfect amalgam of the best of those two bands. Perfectly tuned atmosphere!

I like the record, but honestly it's a very good Summoning ripoff, no matter how hard people defend that fact.
Just compare last song here with Summoning's "The Loud Music of the Sky" from Stronghold, and there are much more such striking similarities. It's a bit shameful from my point of view.

Dont get me wrong, I like this album, but in a funny way. The swords in track nr 2 and the albums medieval theme make me think of spinal tap. I got a feeling that Euronymous is turning in hes grave if he hears this.

Genius! The first Summoning clone that's gone and surpassed the masters at their own game. Now where's the next album?

As a pretty big atmospheric bm fan, I find this album to be lacking in atmosphere. It may sound like a dumb thing to say, but this album sounds too nice and while it puts me in an epic mood, it doesn't take me into any dark places at all. Not that atmospheric always needs to equal a dark atmosphere, but still. In other words: this album has very little of what I look for in atmospheric black and very little of what I look for in metal in general (it has some catchy riffs, I will give 'em that).

Also, they use the same two-chord progression too often, I got sick of it even before the second song had finished. I would probably rate this with a 7 at the very most, if I bothered to rate albums.

Well that guitar solo in A Voice Born Of Stone And Dust was very unexpected, but awesome.

Generally I found some superb tracks in this:
02. Echoes Of Battle
04. To Walk The Ashes Of Dead Empires
06. Book Of The Fallen
What I liked is that yeah they are playing what Summoning are playing, but in a different approach, more flat without all the raw dirty melodies (US sound maybe which is a correct choice they took). It is good to see more of this genre because there are only a few musician that can produce so well structured melodies, as Summoning do.

In "A Voice Born Of Stone And Dust" they tried to use a Summoning form (the intro riff is almost copy paste too) and take it to a different direction, but they did it bad in my opinion. That was the part that I disliked a lot.

All in all, I believe that they must reconsider how they want to make it exactly and progressively find their own identity, they are for sure talented.

I got a feeling that Euronymous is turning in hes grave if he hears this.

I believe he won't be able to "turn" much with all that stabbing in his body.

As an ambient album, it is quiet fantastic. It creates an atmosphere of black medieval times which is hard to not enjoy. Try it with some Dark Souls gaming

No doubt Caladan Brood were heavily influenced by Summoning on this album.

I personally feel like they took their style, added a lot of their own influence and multiplied it by the epic scale of the books this album is based on.

I gave it 9/10 first, but found that I kept coming back to it to experience the pure scope and beauty of its 6 tracks, so I decided to up it to a 10 to reflect my feeling of awe at its songwriting and production on all instruments.

Agreed. I have no idea how people can listen to this without laughing. It's beyond corny. The synth in the second track is literally hilarious.
