Hope it's not a joke.

Justin had mentioned a couple years go or so (2010) they would be working on a Godflesh album, and not just rushing to slap something together.

I can't say anything about it since I've only heard Godflesh from the beginning up to and including Pure and also the last one. I know I should fix that though.

I think with his maturity Justin Broadrick has slowly moved into slower moods, Jesu, smt that has become increasingly less industrial and metal and more rock. Basically, farther from Godlfesh than ever.
This may not have the energy Godflesh once had, and I'm not sure why he'd even want to return there at this point when he's clearly evolved out of it.
I like both bands a lot, but I don't think this can have the spontaneity and genuineness Godlfesh had when he was a younger mind/musician.

Not necessarily. He's produced stuff like this in (relatively) recent times which shows he's still into the noisier, more abrasive side of the things.

I think he's more into texture rather than structure these days, the most recent thing he's collaborated on being a good example:

How that will translate into Godflesh is anyone's guess.

The guy has tones of projects and if he wanted to put out a soft album ( a la jesu) he wouldn't decide to publish it under Godflesh name. I personally think the new album would be abrasive and harsh but cannot judge it's quality

Jesu is jesu because Justin wanted to explore more of that style of music. he seems very good at compartmentalizing different approaches with different bands.

jesu evolved out of later Godflesh, but is not Godflesh... and Godflesh is not Technoanimal is not Grey Machine is not Final.

hell, when he wanted to rework jesu's "Pale Sketches" the deviation was significant enough he called the project Pale Sketcher* to separate it out the new approach from jesu.

*still haven't actually listened to it yet, just read it recently cleaning out the closet and stumbling upon an interview in an old terrorizer or decibel.

Not bad, especially on the final moments, but I can't accept it as a proper godflesh song.

The more I listen to this record the more I like it. It's definitely more in the vein of their earlier albums than the later releases, and while I've enjoyed the majority of their career, the throwback is kind of a cool surprise in 2014. Good stuff.

Quiet enjoyable, and better than their recent EP. Problem is that , if measured against streetcleaner and pure, it has nothing to offer. Quiet possible I'd go for those records forever and forget the assistance of this.

I enjoyed this release as much as the Decline and Fall EP. Yeah, Iliked both releases a lot. No better than the band's late 90s/early 00's material, but still definitely solid and consistent enough to be relevant in the sub-genre. Favourite tracks for me were "Sut Me Down" and "Life Giver Life Taker".

I was initially disappointed by this comeback album, but it's grown on me in the years since. Broadrick said he wanted to take on a simple, minimalistic style for this record, and when viewed through that lens, the band succeeded in making straightforward music that is both heavy and catchy (or at least as catchy as Godflesh's style of music can be.)
