I've been on the Dirge bandwagon ever since wondering how the hell can they top their last masterpiece. One could argue Hyperion is Elysian Magnetic Fields II but I have no problem with a band sticking to their trademark sound as long as it continues to be distinctive and interesting.

If it's in 320 I will check it out but regardless I will be purchasing this. Dirge is one of the bands I "support". Love their music.

Yeah excellent stuff, and my first experience with this band. I was initially a little disappointed, though since some reviewers compared this album to godflesh's works and told that dirge > godflesh. This set my expectations too high.
BTW, what a great and unique cover photo.

With all due respect to those reviewers, I don't find that much relevance except for the industrial link between them, at least when it comes to this album.

Yeah that actually crossed my mind, too. Godflesh is much more bludgeony, something almost missing here.

This is post/sludge/doom metal. Not industrial. So NOTHING is missing here. If you were expecting something Godflesh-like you are in the wrong place.

Yeah I have to agree, Dirge should never have been compared with Godflesh in the first place.

You are right, but I just checked this band for the first time and thus, did not have any reason not to believe those reviews.
This album do have some industrial moments, and that's probably the reason for that comparison.

I'm actually pretty pleased with the release! except for the last song they managed to deliver again .. not as heavy and hopeless as the almost perfect EMF, but highly enjoyable

Hey bitch, have you listened to this yet?
Really damn good album, listening to it right now and I might bump it up to a 9. It's bordering between 8 and 9, but regardless of what number I deem it worthy of it's an album everyone should be checkin out

Ha, nope yet. I've listened to a couple of songs but I realised I wasn't quite in the mood for it. I'm sure it'll join Indian in the ranks of albums it took me ages to listen to but eventuality did.

This was pretty disappointing. I really liked 'Elysian Magnetic Fields' for its massive, dark and spacious sound and ambient soundscaping; a veritable dirge. This doesn't seem to have any of that. Feels like very standard atmos-sludge that plods along without any real impact from the ambient elements. Feels a tad too Jesu-ish at times too (but not so much in a good way, just feels too light on its feet). Bit of a shame. I feel this kind of music needs a bit of an edge for me to really enjoy, or I get bored, and this lacked that edge.

This was pretty disappointing.

Give it a few more spins man. It really grows. "Venus Claws" may be the best song they have ever written.

Haven't heard anything else from this band but it is really amazing. Think that I have not heard better post metal at all, except for neurosis.
Never mind, I have not heard enough of post metal but love this one.

think that saw them on your UK doom metal list and gave one of songs a try. From what I recal it was good. Currently, I have too much of music on my hand but will interject this one in the middle of my queue.

It's a decent record. Don't think I like it as much as I used to going by the listen I'm giving it now.

Post-metal is quickly becoming generic and much of the creativity pool has been dried up. This album stands out though, and it's hovering between an 8 or a 9 for me

Agreed, sad to say Originality is decreasing every year. Finding post metal mixed with other sub-genres is something I look for now. Although I don't mind the occasional CoL or Isis clone. Check my 2014 list Ag, you may find some good "post" stuff there.
