Blake Judd, love him or hate him, is now presenting us with the last chapter in the saga of Nachtmystium, one of the most important names in American black metal of the past decade, and a thirteen year trip through savage territories both familiar and unconventional. And what a fitting end piece it is.

Some details about this should really be surfacing by now... unless Judd is keen on letting this just drop unannounced or delays it.

So over the last couple of days, the Nachtmystium official Facebook page has been super active. It seems that Judd's gotten his shit together and whoever is running the page has stated August 5th as being a firm release date for the album. This thing is actually coming out.

Cool. Hope that means some additional info in the coming weeks about track-list and album cover as per the usual course.

Damn, this is quite good. Downloaded this and Eluveitie's latest at the same time and only made it through two songs on Origin before going back and listening to this again.

Yeah not even remotely impressed by this. Pretty boring as far as I can tell. Quite in line with the quality of the past three releases.

So far I've heard "Seasick" from the Black Meddle albums (I'm a sucker for ballads, you know. ) and it's certainly down my alley.

I don't know what Alex is talking about. This is a really good album, just like the Meddle albums. Silencing Machine is probably the one that deserves the 6 around here. This album is at least a high 8.

Yep, that's definitely probably the weirdest song of Nachtmystium's discog, but the whole album is full of a bunch of odd songwriting (for black metal, at least). Both Black Meddle albums have some great artwork as well, which is always a plus.

Good for 3 or 4 songs, after that the formula gets boring.

I love this album- I loved Silencing Machine too though. Nachtmystium's formula appeals to me.

I don't exactly see "a formula" in this album. The songs are pretty varied, in style, as in pace and mood.

Well spin my nipple nuts and send me to Alaska, what a surprisingly good album. Honestly thought this band would die with me only liking Instinct: Decay but I get this album completely. Lots of nice melancholic riffs and melodies (and solos), stripped down rock-y, post-punk-y percussion, catchy songs, nice organic sound, subtle nuances of psychedelia. The only thing really stopping me from giving this a 9 is that fat slab of overstretched average black metal in the middle of the album called 'Into The Endless Abyss'. Really doesn't add too much to the record. If it was a bit shorter it might have worked better. In fact I think this is better taken as a rock / post-punk record than a black metal one.

Yeah the last song is really just... post-punk. I think I said blackened post-punk somewhere else. It ended the album on a very touching, melancholic and yet uplifting note with that solo. Which is great because I wasn't expecting less for the last song of the last album. Lyrically as well.

I just still don't like the cover.

I'm surprised that you don't like the cover.

It doesn't mean anything, it doesn't evoke anything to me. Especially when the album is full of emotion and meaning, this is bland, seen a hundred times before. And it's too goth for my taste. Let's not even talk about the boobs for the sake of boobs.

I'm surprised that you don't like the cover.

It's not a sepia daguerreotype of an upside down cooker inside a black border on a white background with an obscure font overlay. Ilham was never going to like it, Mary. =P

I actually tried making that comment earlier today but the site imploded the moment I clicked to post the comment. I guess it can't take that much sarcasm.

Seriously though, yeah, I'm not quite sure why there are boobs. I like it a lot though.

Hehe , MS went down, it couldn't really bear this heavy sarcasm.
However, I agree with both of you that the boobs in this cover are extra. But everything else seems quite fine

Great album. Melodic, varied, and catchy. I'm glad I found this one as I never gave this band much attention before.
