My Top 100 Albums
My Top 100 Albums
My top 100 Albums, sorted in descending order of favorites. Pretty rough list, I may update if I become un-lazy sometime. One album per band only. Some explanation and description provided for those who aspire to waste as much time on this site as I do.

7.
Akercocke
- Words That Go Unspoken, Deeds That Go Undone
Progressive death metal with some black metal and lots of sex.
14.
Be'lakor
- Stone's Reach
Melodic death metal that actually doesn't sound average in every way. Well, to me, anyway.
24.
Bloodbath
- The Fathomless Mastery
Death metal. Don't know why, but this speaks to me more than Nightmares Made Flesh.
25.
Death
- Individual Thought Patterns
Progressive death metal with awesome riffs and solos - just edges out Spiritual Healing.
28.
Decapitated
- Winds Of Creation
Death metal. Most stereotypical of their works, but also perfect slab of death.
33.
Inquisition
- Into The Infernal Regions Of The Ancient Cult
Really catchy and really unique black metal
34.
Obscura
- Retribution
Death metal. Love this album although many find their latest to be more interesting
37.
Katatonia
- Brave Murder Day
Progressive death metal with some random 80s influences that work. Also Akerfeldt on vocals.
38.
Barren Earth
- Curse Of The Red River
Progressive death metal that is more interesting than Amorphis
45.
Ævangelist
- De Masticatione Mortuorum In Tumulis
Death metal. Like watching 2001 Space Odyssey with your ears.
47.
Blut Aus Nord
- The Work Which Transforms God
Black metal. One of the most oppressive, abrasive atmospheric soundscapes ever made.
48.
Aeternam
- Disciples Of The Unseen
Melodic black metal that pulls of the Egyptian sound quite well. Vocalist does not pull off the Egyptian look though.
50.
Defeated Sanity
- Psalms Of The Moribund
Just about the most brutal thing ever without trying too hard like every other "brutal" slam band. Also quite technical.
62.
Drudkh
- Autumn Aurora
Atmospheric black metal. Amazing woodsy atmosphere and addicting rolling drums
63.
Dissection
- Storm Of The Lights Bane
Melodic black metal. Pretty ahead of its time since there are so many copycat bands that haven't done better
64.
Nachtmystium
- The World We Left Behind
Black metal that's just about as addicting as the drugs many of the band's lyrical themes are based on
66.
Decrepit Birth
- Diminishing Between Worlds
Technical death metal with some really good riffs for once.
67.
The Meads Of Asphodel
- The Murder Of Jesus The Jew
Maybe black metal maybe death metal maybe neither. Some mind-blowing creativity here. Transcends music.
71.
Beherit
- Drawing Down The Moon
Black metal. Sounds Like Inquisition if Inquisition were much scarier, less flashy, and the vocalist wasn't so intrusive
72.
Wolves In The Throne Room
- Celestial Lineage
Atmospheric black. Best of the US hipster black metal albums.
73.
Mayhem
- De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas
Black Metal. Defines the sound for Black Metal in the last 20 years.
75.
Carcass
- Symphonies Of Sickness
Gore metal. If only Reek Of Putrefaction didn't sound like shit. Well, this might be better anyway.
77.
Devin Townsend
- Deconstruction
Progressive metal. Devin Townsend is involved so there is too much to explain.
81.
85.
Belphegor
- Lucifer Incestus
Melodic black metal. I can't tell if Belphegor take themselves too seriously, or not seriously enough, but they are fun to listen to.
86.
Persuader
- Evolution Purgatory
Progressive thrash/power. Some amazing vocal work, as well as some seriously catchy songs
87.
Cloak Of Altering
- Ancient Paths Through Timeless Voids
Electronic black metal. The War Has Finally Found Us is one of the most addicting songs of all time.
89.
Krisiun
- Southern Storm
Death metal. Over 50 minutes of getting your face raped by people from Brazil
91.
Antediluvian
- λόγος
Atmospheric death metal. This album is so brutal and so dirty that it becomes addicting.
93.
Dark Funeral
- Angelus Exuro Pro Eternus
Black metal. Keep coming back to this album even though there are better out there. Overrated by me.
94.
95.
Midnight Odyssey
- Funerals From The Astral Sphere
Atmospheric black metal. This album makes me want to go outside at night.
98.
Anata
- The Conductor's Departure
Death metal. One of the first death metal albums I've ever heard, and not a bad start either.
99.
Dark Empire
- Humanity Dethroned
More extreme Persuader with the same vocalist, but not quite as catchy
