So with much anticipation, stoked by a three year wait and the crazed proclamations of E. Andersson, Watain have released Lawless Darkness, the follow-up to the crushing Sworn To The Dark.

I'm not sure if this is going to live up to the hype provided by their outspoken front man, who is to pre-album proclamations what Morbid Angel's Trey Azagthoth is to batshit crazy liner notes? the album has been out a couple weeks and no fires raining from the sky Satamic apocalypse have befallen us.

Sure, but "Casus Luciferi" is by far their best imho.

Possibly, but "the best" is a relative term. I prefer to treat this as a very successful trilogy.

Very good and strong release, thought I do prefer the new album The Wild Hunt after listening to it.

A tad to long perhaps. The closer is magnificent. And the chants in Four Thrones.

I like this album the most of what Watain has released. Its diversity and the inclusion of lead melodies appealed me. "Malfeitor" is great and the closing 15-minute "Waters Of Ain" is interesting too. "Wolves Curse" and "Lawless Darkness" were enjoyable too.

If the album had more tracks like "Malfeitor", "Reaping Death" and the amazing-beyond-words-holy-shit "Waters Of Ain", this album would have been a solid 9 for me.
Still, it's my favorite of their. Will never get tired of that closer.

Waters Of Ain has Devil's Blood in it due to Selim playing on that track. And you know that Devil's Blood is truly black metal

8.5/10 leaning slightly towards a 9 for me. The second half of 'Waters Of Ain' is a standout from a first listening.
