So with much anticipation, stoked by a three year wait and the crazed proclamations of E. Andersson, Watain have released Lawless Darkness, the follow-up to the crushing Sworn To The Dark. I'm not sure if this is going to live up to the hype provided by their outspoken front man, who is to pre-album proclamations what Morbid Angel's Trey Azagthoth is to batshit crazy liner notes? the album has been out a couple weeks and no fires raining from the sky Satamic apocalypse have befallen us. Very good and strong release, thought I do prefer the new album The Wild Hunt after listening to it.

I like this album the most of what Watain has released. Its diversity and the inclusion of lead melodies appealed me. "Malfeitor" is great and the closing 15-minute "Waters Of Ain" is interesting too. "Wolves Curse" and "Lawless Darkness" were enjoyable too.

If the album had more tracks like "Malfeitor", "Reaping Death" and the amazing-beyond-words-holy-shit "Waters Of Ain", this album would have been a solid 9 for me. Still, it's my favorite of their. Will never get tired of that closer.

8.5/10 leaning slightly towards a 9 for me. The second half of 'Waters Of Ain' is a standout from a first listening.
