Some rapped verses + a strong Radiohead influence = automatic shit score on MS.

The trancecore tag probably doesn't help. I'd say the metalcore tag doesn't either, but that genre's been on a roll lately.

24.01.2015 - 03:14 Rating: 9 Written by [user id=101272] on 24.01.2015 at 03:09 There's barely any of both in this one to be honest. It's mostly hip hop à la The Streets + Radiohead + synths + guitars.

Besides, Enter Shikari has always been decent, and this brand of "trancecore" is totally different from what Attack Attack and the likes play, hell, even precedes that sound, since ES did that much before those. This rating here is atrocious and unjustified.

24.01.2015 - 14:53 Rating: 9 Written by Uldreth on 24.01.2015 at 14:41 Plus they got rid of the dubstep parts, which I liked in A Flash Flood Of Colour, but I know that 99% of metal fans avoid it like aids and leprosy. You'd think the move towards a more alt rock and less trancore-y/dubstep-y sound would actually please people. Oh well. More for us .

Don't know if this is actually considered good or not, but this kind of housing estate rap style is like shit-coated daggers to my ears. I won't be listening to the whole thing, but I did grit my teeth through 3 tracks. I can certainly see why the rating is so low, considering this is a metal site and this is about as from what people on here want. Some of the more chilled ambient moments sound pretty decent though. I CAN'T FEEL MY LEGS! Lol.

24.01.2015 - 16:11 Written by [user id=4365] on 24.01.2015 at 14:56 I haven't given it a full listen yet either, so I don't have a fully formed opinion of this either, but so far what I have listened to is decent. This album has higher ratings on Sputnikmusic than any of their previous albums and whilst popular ratings are still not really an indicator, I have found that sputnikmusic's ratings are more realistic than MS's and sputnik has a signficant metalhead userbase, but it is NOT a metal site, and even the metal people are generally open about other genres, so I think ratings of albums like this there are far more indicative of quality than here on MS. As Ilham said, this one has dropped most of the popular electronica influences, like modern brostep and instead embraced a more ambient-ish sound, which I am inclinded to agree with that this album would actually appeal to traditional metal people more than their previous outings, which have far higher ratings here. But then again traditional/popular metal people are probably not really openminded about alternative rock, hip-hop or ambient either, so I have no idea. But most sources seem to state that this album is more mature-sounding than previous ES albums and is more experimental, which I agree with, based on the glancing listens I have given so far. I agree with the statement than people on this site do not care for a sound like this in general, but the overall rating still annoys me a bit, since I think it is possible to see a sort of "objective" quality in this regardless. Dunno if I expressed myself well. Edit: I've been especially addicted to this song:

Account deleted Written by Uldreth on 24.01.2015 at 16:11 You expressed yourself fine, I just think you're giving too much credit to MS which is dominated by melodeath and melodic death doom We have a membership of people who, perhaps largely, if not significantly, still cannot accept Slipknot as a metal band so I don't think something like that has much chance of reaching people's objective considerations. If I had to review this myself I imagine it would get a higher rating than my personal one, but anything that has a resemblance to The Streets is like kryptonite so there's no chance of me appreciating it (and I enjoy a reasonable amount of hip-hop anyway). I can only speak for myself. I remain in constant confusion and bewilderment as to why people here listen to something they know they aren't going to like in the first place. People that apparently feel the need to listen to entire discographies then give it 6 or under scores.

Even if you haven't listened to it all, you're right on all the points there Uldreth. Not that I was expecting logical, sensible voting from our dear "metalheads" here. It's just that their previous albums were actually far more deserving of low votes than this one. The above tags of metalcore and trancecore barely apply anymore, this would better be described as experimental rock/hip hop with metalcore touches. I myself have spun this record three times in less than 24 hours, and the track you linked there Bence is indeed one of the highlights of the album. If I don't get tired of it, I can see this album stay in my top10 of 2015 already.

Agree with both of you, I guess I'm just overrating the MS population . Will listen to this properly when I get the time, I have a feeling I will dig this a lot.

I might look into the Sputnik community. I only ever end up at their site because of random reviews but their top rated albums bit looks like a filtered version of RYM, with a strange assortments of albums (Desolate Shrine through to Björk)

24.01.2015 - 20:05 Written by [user id=4365] on 24.01.2015 at 19:59 I think you would find the site useful. I am not a huge fan of their community, since they have very rampant trolls, but generally decent stuff will get exposure there from multiple genres. Generally the stuff you like here don't have as much of a following as it has here (regardless how the general MS populations doesn't give a shit about that stuff, the more vocal members care enough), but things DO get exposure. I got a significant portion of my super underground -core stuff from Sputnik for example.

I like 'Torn Apart'. Catchy tune. However, this is just one band I cannot get into. Simple as that. I like hip hop and electronic music, but I just can't get into these guys.

Haha, this rating is just hilarious, so much hate Anyway, these guys are really talented, they get better and better with each record. Myopia is one of the catchiest thing I've heard recently, with this strong Radiohead feeling at the beginning.

I remember trying out Take To The Skies (2007) and it sounded something like Asking Alexandria with a pixie dust sprinkle of creativity. Ill be damned. Here are among the most engaging & vibrant lyrics I've come across recently. Somebody in ES is a freaking modern poet. The song writing is so diverse and interesting here. It's surprising this is the same band that sounded like AA. 3.8/5 Written by Schnabeltier 24 on 25.01.2015 at 15:38 I don't think the ratings are a joke, rather predictable. It's a joke that this album is actually listed here. Because this album is not metal. Its certainly not metalcore as this page suggests. It has a hardcore skeleton without any distinct extreme metal influences. Best labelled as post-hardcore mix with ingredients from hip hop to dnb to electronic. Only one track that I'd call metal - 'There's A Price On Your Head' which pretty much sounds experimental if not like a tribute to TDEP. That's about it. I know their early work had prominent metalcore moments. Oddly enough, that's about the only reason I can think of for this album to be listed here.

21.02.2015 - 20:59 Rating: 8 Written by AssailantForce on 20.02.2015 at 21:38 Yeah, you're totally right, there are some surprising bands here, that have nothing to do with metal (King Crimson, really ^^). But most of the time, they are ambiant, or prog rock bands, so it's not a big issue. But this one is influenced by styles and bands that are not so welcomed in the metal community, so that explains it I guess...

We're not going to delete a band's profile just because they released a nearly non-metal album after numerous metal ones.

A band tagged as trancecore with dnb and hip hop influences? And with bipolar reactions on MS? Now that should be added to my to hear list EDIT: This is awesome *.* EDIT 2: Well, not so awesome anymore after a few more listens.

It's a shame that such a good album got such a low rate. But Illham is right. I didn't expect for anything better in a Metal oriented website.

On my first listen this actually sounds great, probably because I can hear some Radiohead influence and I love Radiohead.

I really enjoyed TTTS back when it released. I enjoy it a lot less now than I used to for whatever reason, and I really disliked both of the following 2 LPs. Listened to this one just for kicks, and I'm enjoying it so far. Nothing like TTTS, but something about it feels fresh in a good way. Here's to hoping it sticks with a few more listens.
