Not for me if there are 99% idols 1% Heavy Metal.

Just because of one band Babymetal you say 99% of metal is idols and 1% is heavy metal?

You sound as if you think that ever since Babymetal got popular no normal bands were formed and got popular and everybody forgot about all the bands before.

Then why did you say their album killed heavy metal? That's like saying grunge killed glam metal. Which it of course did.
But the Babymetal album didn't kill anything. Yes, it's idols kids singing/screaming/dancing over heavy metal, but it didn't kill anything.

Only the best albums can generate those contradictory reactions =]

The album that killed heavy metal. Fuck off and die Babymetal.

If Heavy FUCKING METAL can be killed by little japanese girls, then Heavy Metal is is more fragile than Gene Simmon's precious ego. No, This is just a cute little gimmick that'll pass eventually.

Give Heavy Metal more credit.

A gimmick indeed. The Japanese idol culture was already sickening enough, mixing it with metal is even worse. Aside form the bland, and cliche metal riffs, the way the band does not even show who the actual musicians are is a complete insult to metal as a whole. Just terrible.

I guess Portal, Deathspell Omega, Thantifaxath, Abyssal, etc are also insulting metal as a whole.

The concept of mixing j-pop with metal is so appealing, though; I would wet myself if it was something like Kyary Pamyu Pamyu meets Gojira. It's a shame that the potential is entirely lost on these bland, uninspired riffs and melodies.

It's like Blood Stain Child decided to put some vocaloid on vocals as a joke on one hell of a drunk night. I don't think it's bad, but they're pretty much just a meme, because people are like "oh look, asian schoolgirls playing metal in a silly japanese way" and so they gain fame without regard to their actual music. I think I'll pass.

Agree. Deathspell Omega (christian music) insulting BM.

And what makes you think Thantifaxath insulting metal?

I love that feeling they transmit, especially in the chorus, like tracks 2, 3, 4, 5 or 13. In general i found it quite solid, but there is some filler like Rondo of Nightmare, or others with less quality like Onedari Daisakusen. And by the way, this is not just Melodic Death Metal, also it has some Heavy Metal and Power Metal styles, like the bonus track Road Of Resistance with DragonForce! awesome. Yeah really a big surprise, my total respect to them, look at their dancing, it's explosive!!

"It's clearly not an album for metalheads who like to follow the clear definitions of what makes metal metal, or one for J-pop fans who are scared of huge guitar riffs. But those who don't really care about rules and just want to jump around like idiots to the brightest, silliest music imaginable will find exactly what they never dreamed about asking for in Babymetal's brilliant debut."

So then all the new "post-death" bands, majority black metal bands, and pretty much any band who wears a mask or facepaint are completely insulting metal? Regardless of how metal they actually are? Cuz anonymity in metal is completely new, and was just created for the first time ever by this band right here...

I guess you two lack critical thinking skills. Im obviously not talking about the musicians being masked. Thats fucking stupid. I'm talking about the fact that the line up consists of three random J-pop singers, and none of the people that actually play the music.

Of course, when multiple people misinterpret your comment it is because of their lack of "critical thinking skills" and not because your comment just wasn't clearly worded.

^Of course, Zaphod. Stupid us. All my life I've been so jaded by my lack of omniscient ability to be able to comprehend the intent of poorly worded ideas and thought processes. Oh, woe is me.

It's not the band's fault for that either, jackass. It's the manager who owns all the rights to the band and it's activities who keeps the actual talent hidden behind anonymity. But yes, now that you've actually clarified your thought, you are correct, Babymetal is actually quite insulting to the norm of Metal in several aspects.

I came here once again to insult Heavy Metal fans. Especially for this band. This is just cute idol to repay their debts, not pure heavy metal.

Slap me once again because I really wanted to.

I don't know what to think of this album. It's completely bizarre, unique, ridiculous... those session musicians really kill it at times, I must say. The teenage-girl vocals are... well, not bad per se, but not good either though... this here is obviously completely different from everything else here on Metal Storm
I will probably never listen to any Babymetal again, but I can respect this unique style of music.

By the way, it's also really interesting to see the rating distribution of this album here. 10 to 20 votes for almost all rating levels from 1 ("worst ever") to 10 ("perfect")

Metal Rasputin
I can see why many people don't like this. Not everyone enjoys anime music or cute japanese girls singing cute songs, and that's okay. I think Babymetal was and is new and exciting kind of metal experimentation. After so many cookie cutter bands playing the exact same songs over and over again and sounding exactly the same, somebody finally got creative and pushed the boundaries of the genre. And it wasn't some fringe black metal band that people listen from cassette tapes but a band with lots of media coverage and potential audience even outside the metal circles. It took some balls to release something like this considering all the hate it eventually got from all the purists. I don't get why some people just want the same year after year and get offended when some other folk try something new. Like they don't ruin or take away anything from the good bands, they're just doing their own thing.
