As is the case with the last 5 albums, the cover, the theme and the song titles look very promising then the result is a mix of light power metal with commercial rock. I don't think this will sound anything similar to "The Metal Opera part 1" or "Theater Of Salvation" by Edguy but I am hoping for more power metal and less filler and specially for some fresh ideas with the lyrics. Less random shadow moonlight desire soul fire words and more poetic stuff. I don't know. Something else somehow.

Whatever he does, as I like it ( as it has happened with every album from them -except some songs from Angel of Babylon- ), I'll accept it.
Some people must learn to be less closed-minded towards the music done by the artists.
And be prepared by a HUGE disappointment once again if you expect something like the early Edguy or the OVER-OVERVALUED Metal Opera style. Otherwise, enjoy the next one, especially with HANSI "THE Bard" KURSCH as a very special guest

Ghostlights was good, a return to form. But judging from the single, it will probably be as boring as Scarecrow.

Ok, finally found a review: https://www.metal-hammer.de/avantasia-die-hoerprobe-von-moonglow-1145411/. Invincible is one song I am worried about. Don't need another Tate ballad. Also, it sucks that the 10 minute opener has no guests.

Great album, already a favorite of mine.
Not a single song on here I don't like, they all have character and soul.
Overall probably the best Avantasia album to date, and this comes from a diehard Avantasia fan.
Can't recommend it enough, if you like "pussy metal" as Tobi puts it, this one is for you!

I like the opener, and the second part of Alchemy. The Raven Child and Heart are also decent. The rest are not so good. I'm new to Avantasia, just listened for the first time their 1st album, before coming to this and Moonglow can't hold a candle. 7/10.

I quote myself and confirm that this album is more or less the same things rehashed and put under different song titles. There are some good moments as usual specially the contributions of Hansi and Geoff Tate but it doesn't make it a great album. Average stuff mostly with some good songs.

As much as I love Avantasia, I don't feel much about this album so far. Let's give it a couple of more spins.

Much better than Ghostlights... maybe at the same level of Angel Of Babylon and the Wicked Symphony. The Mystery of Time is way better! Unreachables the first three!

Is an okay album, not bad, far from great, all around pretty generic with some pretty good moments. Tobias is obviously very comfortable with the musical formula he found to compose, but because of that the album lacks surprises. It also lacks being more epic and catchy. Overall, a decent effort, pretty meh.

I think you've summed it up pretty well really. A bit of a triumph of style over content. There's a number of tracks here, where you can see the template of previous incarnations, except that they are rehashed and not as well executed. I think 6.5-7/10 is overall a fair assessment, which is a shame because I actually thought Ghostlights was quite a strong offering, whereas this is imho, the weakest of his post 2008 releases, overall.

First gig was Manowar (loincloths 'n' all), Bristol Colston Hall in March 1983, on the 'Hail to England' tour. Tickets were £3.75, 300 in the audience, Mercyful Fate never showed, but my hearing still got seriously trashed..

Definitely agree. I am still glad that they are producing music but I would like a very solid release that I can enjoy after many years and that stirs emotions inside me like the Metal Opera did. I am not focused on Power Metal only since I believe a good song is good song no matter what the genre is, but in my opinion, Avantasia were at their peak when they made the metal opera part 1.

Really hit or miss. Some tracks are boring bland drivel and others soar above the heavens. Worth a listen at the very least.

Just heard Ghost in the moon and it was like a mix of so many Meatloaf songs in one. Anyone think so?

Well, not a bad one. Not an excellent also. Bit let down compared to the last one. Still 4 to 5 songs are there on repeat list.

Kind of a great start to then lost strengh as it avanced. It's not like I was waiting another Metal Opera, Im actually a fan of Mistery of Time and The Scarecrow, and this felt less special than those two. Still not a bad listen, but it seems that Toby it's happy with repeting the same album over and over again with not much surprises.

The songs on the album are hit or miss for me. Not a fan of the opening track but it goes on a pretty fantastic 4 song run after that. Those songs will get a lot of play from me I'm sure. After that, its an awful, awful ballad and 2 good, not great, songs. Lavender and Requiem revive the album though, like them both a lot. Then I usually stop listening to the album at the awful Maniac cover. Heart feels like its an Edguy song.
Highlights: Moonglow, Raven Child, Starlight, Requiem for a Dream

I really think this is an amazing album. I know it's the same formula, but it definitely still classifies as power metal, even though there are some songs more AOR. I enjoyed every song here, and I honestly think every album since The Scarecrow has had so much more character than the original Metal Operas, Tobi's sound is so much more distinctive and 'his own'. Ghost In The Moon remains an all-time favourite alongside Moonglow.
