Fuck it, let's talk about Black Anima...

Lacuna Coil was once one of my favorite gothic metal bands of all time. This was back in 2014 while I was in high school, where my obsession with Lacuna Coil peaked. In fact, they were one of the three gothic metal bands that led me to dig deeper into the gothic metal genre. However, as I discover more obscure, high-quality bands, my love for Lacuna Coil has decayed, and no album put the nail on the coffin for my love of Lacuna Coil more than Black Anima.

The truth is that the change that lacuna coil made of its gothic sound towards Death did not seem anything good to me, obviously I prefer its sound from the beginning of the band.

So I already listened to the album.

And how the expectations have fallen. An album that could have been the best since Comalies, just falls into dullness of poor songwriting. Don't get me wrong - this is probably the heaviest LC record to date, but it's just that.
All choruses sound uninspiring and boring. The best parts in most of the songs are middle parts, mostly because of Christina's experimental vocals. The rest just constant fillers.

It's sad, because Delirium gave a huge hope, that real emotional songwriting, that LC became know off in the first place, will come back. Sadly that's not the case.

Yes, we have "Veneficium" which could easily be taken from Comalies, and I even say, that it's the best LC song since that album. But that's just one song.

The saddest part is that songwriting falls short mostly on vocal melodies, which always was the strongest part of the band. Maybe Christina is getting tired of all of this, but it really disappointed me. Maybe I shouldn't have hoped for a miracle, but I would have gone all-in on Delirium 2 instead of Black Anima we got.

Venificium is the highlight and absolute stunner on this album that is heavy, but quickly monotonous and forgettable.

After Delirium, which I really enjoyed, I kinda had high hopes for this one. Besides 1-2 good songs, the rest is pretty much uninspired generic metal. Without Cristina's vocal work this would probably be below average music. I enjoyed the guitar work in Delirium and I expected they would pick up where they left but that's not the case.

Venificium really stands out, great songwriting. Kind of like it's from another album compared to the rest.
Which states the obvious, Why don't they write more of THIS?

I thought Delirium was better than this but I actually enjoy the heavier direction Lacuna Coil have taken with Black Anima

I never thought I would say this. I thought the album was awful. Not even a good successor to delirium. The music itself are generic despite being the heaviest album in LC's discography to date. However, with all that heaviness leaves a cost to songwriting skills. I've defended they're music for years despite what others say... But this album really crushed me... Broken crown Halo brought back they're gothic metal sound, delirium was alright, then this album really questions why I'm still a Lacuna coil fan...

The singing even felt flat which was shocking. That was always a strong point for LC. Unfortunately, Cristina's singing felt tired and Andrea sounds like a deathcore/metalcore vocalist. The majority always starts with electronic sounds and it drove me nuts... Not even an once of atmosphere that made them so unique.

I long for Lacuna Coil to keep going to the broken crown Halo direction that brought back gothic metal elements, but instead I get this. This was a huge letdown for me... It's incredibly sad to say too.

Wow, i can't believe all of these comments about the album on here. This is definitely a huge return to their root and it has the scents of the modern sound of Broken Crown Halo as well. How you guys disgrace this album is just very dumb.

Andrea's growls just make it sound so generic. Everyone started doing that cuz it's popular and.. meh.

Quite disappointing, I was expecting something better. Totally not a fan of this new direction which they started with Delirium, although that wasn't as bad as Black Anima.
