Re-election in Germany? I'm even more afraid of those. Nazis will likely win a huge share and we'll move from a moderately progressive government to a conservative right one. It's so fucking depressing.

In a parlimanitarian system, like most of the Western world, the executive branch is an offshoot of the legislative branch, and as such, any significant disagreement between the two results in the dissolution of the government.

And lets not kid ourselves. The whole immunity ruling is an abuse of power. And Trump just effectively evaded prosecution of crimes he's already convicted of. Tell me that's not abuse of power.

But it's not domestic politics we're worried about. At least that's not the major part of it. Germany is a republic, too. We're not too different, there. But we also understand the issues of a federal system. And its limitations.

Even our own chancellor pointed this out yesterday in a speech that was supposed to explain why our own government just fell apart. It is literally affecting the whole world.

The political power in US, at least when it comes to things beside foreign policy, is very decentralized. In a way, that makes it dysfunctional, which maybe is the point. It is not easy to abuse power.
