Biography

In the winter of 2007, Colin Ryley and Brenden Hull created the folk metal project Skymir with two other members for no other reason than to have something to do. in 2008 they began writing and recording an EP titled "In the Halls of Utgard". The EP that started the bands interest in Folk inspired writing and orchestrations. Keyboard and melodic melodies run ramped in this Viking epic! Get lost on a journey from the Bifrost Bridge to the Halls of Utgard themselves.

After a three year hiatus and many line up changes, the band settled down to begin the writing of their debut album. After many drunken winter nights of inspiration, the band recorded their 10 track CD. Skymir took its folky inspiration one step further with their full length album Haunted saloon. Without loosing their speeding guitars and melodic keys they were able to create a sound that sums up the cowtown image and style.

The Black Metal Cowboys are in full speed as they continue to play shows and start writing more music. Drink away with us on this Folky Western Wagon ride through undead infested ghost towns and saloons!

"If there's a local band out there that thoroughly embraces the Cowtown image with which our beloved city has so often been stuck, it's melodic metalheads Skymir. The band, founded in 2008, has juxtaposed their country and western theme with melodic death metal. Their keyboard laden melodies, when mixed with the Old West lyricism and image, makes up their debut record, Haunted Saloon." - Brandon McNeil, Beatroute Magazine
