PHILM - Biography

Biography

Philm is an experimental rock band from Los Angeles, formed in 2010 by drummer Dave Lombardo, known for his work with Slayer, along with guitarist/vocalist Gerry Nestler (Civil Defiance) and bassist Pancho Tomaselli (War). The band is renowned for its unique fusion of metal, punk, jazz, and experimental rock, creating a sound that stands apart from more conventional metal acts.

Philm released their debut album, Harmonic, in 2012 on Ipecac Recordings, which showcased their raw, live-in-the-studio energy and complex, improvisational style. The album was noted for its aggressive drumming and unconventional song structures. In 2014, the band followed up with Fire From The Evening Sun, continuing to evolve their sound with heavy riffs and diverse influences.

In 2016, Lombardo left PHILM due to creative differences, putting the band on hiatus. In 2020, Gerry Nestler reformed PHILM with a new lineup and released their third album, Time Burner, which further explored their experimental roots. This album included guest appearances, such as Grammy-winning percussionist Anderson Quintero. Despite lineup changes, PHILM remains committed to pushing musical boundaries, offering a fresh and unpredictable take on the rock and metal genres.
