Biography
This band is one of the oldest metal bands in Iceland probably second only to Ham (started in 89). Forgarður Helvítis was formed in 1991 by two teenagers from the town of Selfoss, they managed to gather some relatives together to form the band. Relatively quickly they began coming up with songs and started playing here and there, but mostly there (there being Reykjavík and here being Selfoss). Their lyrical inspiration comes mostly from death and devilish things, as some names of their songs suggest such as; Krossfest börn (Crucefide Children), Guð er stærsta lygi í heimi (God Is The Biggest Lie In The World), Legsteinn grafar minnar (My Graves Tombstone). They always sought out more extreme and aggressive ways to express themselves musically, making them as unique as Ham in the Icelandic music scene at the time.
Through tape trading and the distribution of their recording session through the underground they contributed to various compilations in various corners of the world. All the time learning more about their own ability to create and enjoying creation according to their own premises. Despite the bands age the band hasn't released that much material through the years mostly holding on to it until next concert where they slam it in your face. They released their first demo in 1993, followed by another demo in 1995 and yeat another one in 1999, by that time they were already well known in the Icelandic metal scene with strong fanbase, which is even stronger these days than it was. Their first and only full length hit the record stores in 2002 named "Gerningarveður".
This metalcore band has had it's effects on the hard rock and metal scene in Iceland, both performance wise and lyrically, and even to this day they are showing the "younglings" how to perform.
