After an altercation with Anal Cunt frontman Seth Putnam following a Six Feet Under concert, Chris Barnes became the subject of the Anal Cunt song "Chris Barnes Is A Pussy,", found on the It Just Gets Worse album. According to Putnam, he was handing out fliers at the concert and decided to heckle Barnes while he was there, which caused Barnes to challenge him to a fight after the show. Putnam agreed, but as he was walking out of the venue in preparation he was tackled from behind by half a dozen roadies and security guards, who roughed him up while Barnes retreated to his trailer. Barnes maintains that he bested Putnam in a brawl, though this is not the only such contested incident in Barnes's career, and after the "fight" Six Feet Under would not play in the Boston area again until after Putnam's death in 2011.

In 2011, Chris Barnes appeared in a commercial for a used car dealership located in Tampa, Florida.

A side project band started by Chris Barnes and Allen West of Obituary. Originally, the band was intended to just remain a side project, but after Chris was ejected from his original band Cannibal Corpse, Six Feet Under became his priority, subsequently moving the band from a side project to the long running act they are today.

The tattoo artist Paul Booth is known to do most of Six Feet Under's album art.

Six Feet Under released their first album that was produced by Brian Slagel (who "discovered" Slayer) and Scott Burns (who worked with Sepultura and Napalm Death, amongst others).
