Dutch doomsters Hooded Priest have scheduled a handful of gigs in The Netherlands and Belgium over the next couple of months. J-Maze will rejoin the band in the second half of the year as the band is hoping to do some shows abroad.

Vomitory - Finish Recording New Album

Swedish death metallers Vomitory have finished the recordings for their anticipated new album, Opus Mortis VIII.

Comments the band: "On Sunday, December 19th, we completed the work on the eighth Vomitory album that we have entitled Opus Mortis VIII. It's our eighth musical work of death, so we think it's a very fitting title and we have some nice things going on artwork-wise for this one.

Producer and studio owner Rikard Löfgren has done a tremendous job to get the best sounding Vomitory album to date - no competition! We are so fucking happy with the result. The production is absolutely top-notch and the material offers diversity and dynamics that you haven't quite heard from Vomitory before. You will get 14 songs altogether and roughly 54 minutes playing time."

Vomitory's Opus Mortis VIII will be released in the spring of 2011.

Negură Bunget - Update From The Band

Negură Bunget have issued the following band update, including a detailed year recap and their plans for the future:

"2010 was the most intense year in the history of the band. Two albums released, Măiestrit on Prophecy Production and Vîrstele Pămîntului on Code666 Records, followed by a long European tour as headliners (Spirit of the Land Tour), another tour in autumn (Black Trolls Over Europe), some festivals in between (including Hellfest), some line-up changes (guitarists Corb and Spin were replaced by Urzit and Fulmineos), a MCD to symbolically end our 10 years cooperation with Code666 Records and a lot of work, all make this year special and unforgettable.

Figures for 2010: 72 gigs played, 2 European Tours as headliners, more than 50.000 km of driving on our van, 66 answered interviews, more than 10.000 CD's sold.
We thank everybody who helped us in any way, and we promise we are already focusing on making 2011 even more special!

The firsts signs are here already: 2011 marks 15 years of Negură Bunget, so all our activities will celebrate this anniversary. We already have the release of the Live DVD, Focul Viu, set for March, the April tour along Enslaved (which includes a special performance at Ragnarök Festival) and some summer festivals (of which Party.San is already announced). 2011 will also develop one of our most ambitious project, The Transilvanian Trilogy."

Grayceon - Completes Work On New Album, Song Online

US progressive metallers Grayceon have completed work on their third studio album, named ll We Destroy. The CD is slated for a March 1st release through Profound Lore Records.

An MP3 of the track "Shellmounds" can be found here.

Stated the band: "We are so proud of this album and feel it is our strongest, heaviest, most epic album to date."

"We would also like to announce our CD release show which will take place on February 11th at Bottom of the Hill in San Francisco, CA, with friends and label mates Worm Ouroboros and a new band we love called Hollow Mirrors. If you pay entry into this show, you get a copy of All We Destroy for FREE! You heard it right, you get our new album two weeks before the release date for absolutely free with entry into the show. So, if you are local, please come out and show your support."

And here's the Profound Lore press release: Always hard to classify, the eclectic nature of Grayceon has always worked to the band's advantage when trying to pinpoint the unique and epic nature of their music. Featuring members of the Voivod-esque Bay Area forward-thinking thrash/punk metal band Walken and cellist/vocalist Jackie Perez Gratz (of Giant Squid, and who also has served as the recording cellist for bands like Agalloch, Om, Asunder, Cattle Decapitation, Amber Asylum, and Neurosis), Grayceon is solely comprised of cello, guitars, drums, and vocals (male and female respectively).

By combining elements of progressive rock/metal, sludge/doom metal, neo-classical chamber music, and neo-folk, All We Destroy follows the band's previous two releases (namely their self-titled debut and their sophomore release This Grand Show) and builds upon the sound they formulated into something heavier, and more moving, while at the same time, something much more frantic and devastating.

Overall, All We Destroy is an album that deploys a punishing seductive power. One of ferocity, beauty, and modern-day tragedy.

All We Destroy cover art] tracklist:

01. Dreamer Deceived
02. Shellmounds .mp3]
03. We Can
04. Once A Shadow
05. A Road Less Traveled
06. War's End

Slumber - Calling It Quits, Becoming Two New Bands

The new year has barely started and there's already some bad news to report: Swedish Melodic Doom metal band Slumber are calling it a day. However, the members will continue their endeavors in two different bands.

"As from today, Slumber exists no more as a group. Slumber has now turned into two bands", is how the official statement reads.

The first band is called Atoma, and consists of vocalist Ehsan Kalantarpour, guitarist Markus Hill and bassist Siavosh Bigonah (ex-Ondskapt), together with Rickard Insulander, among others. The band's first album Skylight is already recorded and mastered, and will be released in the fall of 2011. Skylight was originally the new upcoming album of Slumber, named Resonance.

More info about Atoma as well as an album preview can be found on MySpace.

The second project, fronted by guitarist Jari Lindholm, is still unnamed, but is apparently two weeks away from recording its debut album. More details and some samples can be found here.

More updates on these two bands will follow shortly.

Stratovarius - An Update From Jörg Michael

Back in November, the news came out that drummer Jörg Michael (ex-Rage, ex-Running Wild, ex-Saxon, ex-Mekong Delta) was diagnosed with cancer. The current Stratovarius drummer now checked in with the following message:

"Dear All, this is Jörg speaking, finally.

I hope this message finds everybody well and everybody is in an easy-peasy Christmas mood already. The first leg of the European tour with Helloween is over - time to have a few words with you.

First of all, let's not forget the brilliant emergency rescue action and playing of Alex Landenburg (Axxis, Mekong Delta, At Vance), thanx again for all what you did for the fans, the band and also for me.

Surely I hate the idea of somebdy is sitting on "my chair" but this special action needed some special treatment and I am proud and happy that it was you, Alex. Thanx again, we'll get together for a real drink, not like these other Scandinavian pussies in the band

I was overwhelmed by all the wishes, tons of emails and text messages I received from all over the world wishing me a speedy recovery. Thank you so much for supporting me, and it made me feel very strong when fighting these bastards inside of me.

I have some good news to tell you and believe me - I really enjoy to tell the world:

The surgery was done about 6 weeks ago and the first therapy is done as well. All looks good so far and as Jens told me before: "Do not worry Jörg, nothing survives in your body after all what you did to it!"

Finally he was right, there are only small bits and bobs left - I will fight those with another therapy in about 4 months time.

I think I have been very lucky that it was discovered by one of my friends in a very early state. Very good that my friend decided to become a doctor, he was very lousy when he tried playing the guitar.

Besides preparing myself for Christmas, I am currently practicing the drums to be ready and kickin' again when the tour continues in the new year. I will be back, thanx again for everything and let's get alive and kicking once again, see you in Paris and everywhere else..."

Jeff Loomis - To Release New Solo Material

Beyond the Dark Horizon recently spoke with guitar icon, Jeff Loomis of Seattle's long running Metal tyrants, Nevermore. Loomis spoke about Nevermore's latest release, The Obsidian Conspiracy, his solo endeavors, being a guitar icon and more. You can read the whole thing here.

When asked if Loomis is planning to release a follow-up to his solo album, he answered:

"Yes I do. I actually signed on for 2 more records and I'm working on the new one right now. There's still no title yet but I'm working on the music and hoping for a mid-winter release next year."

Loomis also had the following to say about the Sanctuary reunion:

"All I know at the moment is that Warrel wanted to get the band back together and do a couple of shows and I think we're going to do some festival shows. As far as a new record, I'm not quite sure if that's going to happen yet. That's actually still being talked about. But I can say that there will be a few Sanctuary festival shows over in Germany."
