Echoes Of Eternity - New Album Details Revealed

Guitarist/songwriter Brandon S. Patton checked in from Los Angeles about Echoes Of Eternity's sophomore album:

"Working with Logan Mader on "As Shadows Burn" was amazing. We had a lot of respect for him from the start, given his experience as a professional guitarist with Machine Head in the '90s and the great work he's done as a mixer and producer in recent years, the most recent Gojira album being a prime example.

The difference between our debut album and this second album is night and day! On the first album, the mix was really uneven and the vocals had WAY too much effects on them. On "As Shadows Burn", we captured a much more natural feel as a band. It doesn't sound so fucking processed and stiff. The guitars and drumming are way more aggressive and the band is smokin', with the whole album being slam-packed with killer riffs. The production and mix is a million times better. And Francine delivers an AMAZING vocal performance that is going to make people wake the fuck up. Even if you've made up your mind that you hate female-fronted metal, you are probably going to dig this record because first and foremost, its a KILLER metal record.

The title of the album actually came from a line in the chorus of the song "Veiled Horizon". It was short and evoked strong imagery in our mind. We thought that title would lead to a really cool album cover if we worked with the right artist. And it did. Gustavo Sazes (Old Man's Child, Firewind, God Forbid) really nailed it!

We would love to take this bad boy on the road in 2010. It would be a damned shame if we didn't because we designed this record to fucking kick ass live! We missed a great chance to do a tour at the beginning of next year, so we are hanging tight for the right tour offer so we can get out on the road."

"As Shadows Burn" cover art] tracklist:

01. Ten Of Swords
02. A Veiled Horizon
03. Memories Of Blood And Gold
04. The Scarlet Embrace
05. Descent Of A Blackened Soul
06. Twilight Fires
07. Buried Beneath A Thousand Dreams
08. Letalis Deus
09. Funeral In The Sky

"As Shadows Burn" will be released in North America on September 22, 2009. Three days later the album will hit the shelves in Europe.

Jeroen Paul Thesseling (Obscura/Ex-Pestilence) - Bass Players In Death Metal Should Be More Audible In The Mix

Dutch bass player Jeroen Paul Thesseling (Obscura/Ex-Pestilence) says most bassists should be more audible in death metal recordings. "In many of the death metal productions the bass guitar is simply absent or inaudible in the mix, which is a shame. Perhaps this is one of those aspects that will change as the genre evolves. We are lucky to have bassists like Steve DiGiorgio and Alex Webster, both of whom have contributed greatly to the death metal style of bass playing."

Further information can be found at www.jeroenthesseling.com and www.warwick.de

Thesseling joined the German progressive death metal band Obscura in 2007. He toured North America and recorded their second full-length album Cosmogenesis, released via Relapse Records in February 2009. This August, Obscura will embark on a European tour alongside ATHEIST. With PESTILENCE, Jeroen played on their fourth album, "Spheres" (1993).

Metalhead Suffering From Severe Tinnitus And Hyperacusis Commits Suicide

Sad news in the Belgian newspapers today. Dietrich Hectors, a 29-year old Belgian metalhead (and a doctor of engineering) killed himself last Friday because he was suffering from a severe form of tinnitus and hyperacusis. Tinnitus is an incurable condition, where the ear is permanently damaged, resulting in an over-sensitivity to certain frequency ranges of sound. Despite taking some sort of medication, in the end, every single sound hurted his ears, especially his own voice. "This disease controls my life: every word hurts."

His ears got damaged permanently after a Sepultura concert in 1996. From then on, he used ear plugs for almost every loud activity. After a rehearsel with his metal band - where he forgot his plugs because he was in a hurry - his condition got worse. Eventually, Dietrich Hectors was forced to quit the band in 2003. He also gave up most of his social life - avoiding pubs etc. - locking himself up in total loneliness and silence. After visiting a small, local music festival in 2006, he took off his ear plugs, just when people started firing fireworks right next to him. When he got his plugs back in, already a few explosions had passed. The next few days, his ears started hurting like never before.

In his goodbye letter, Hectors wrote: "For the first time in my life, the ringing noise in my ears is totally unbearable. It goes beyond anything. Despite the heavier medication, EVERYTHING is hurting my ears, especially my own voice. I can no longer communicate - just when I really needed to talk with the people around me the most. A hundred times, I tried to fight back, kept myself in silence, involved in antisocial behaviour - waiting for some sort of improvement. But there is a line somewhere. That line is reached. Please respect my choice, my life has become a living hell."

He also added he now regrets his switch in musical preferences from hard-rock to heavy metal...

Dutch-speaking people can read the whole letter at this location.

May you rest in Peace and Silence, Dietrich.

Manitou - Call It Quits

Finnish metallers Manitou have issued the following update on their MySpace blog:

"After a long struggle and a lot of effort to give some rescue breathing to this band without much results we've decided to call it a day and say goodbye to the Manitou.

We had some new rocking songs ready for the recording and we even had a new bad-ass keyboard player Mikko Reinamo on board. Too bad that we failed to get the recordings done due to the lack of motivation.

Twelve years, three great albums and a big bunch of great gigs, ups and downs. A big thank you goes to all our friends, fans, co-operation partners and supporters, you know who you are!

The good news are that Ismo, Antti, Mikko and Markus are already working together on a new still anonymous project, which will in a way continue the legacy of Manitou with a new singer and drummer on board. More info coming soon on this case, so keep on checking the Manitou MySpace site for updates on what's happening in the family.

But we won't be leaving here quietly as we'll be still performing one last show and playing the Manitou farewell gig at the mighty local Dark River Festival on August 7 at Honkala Ski Stadium in Karhula.

So, be sure you won't miss this event as you really can't catch this later!

R.I.P. Manitou 1997-2009"
