Power Quest - Part Ways With Vocalist

Power Quest have issued the following announcement regarding the departure of vocalist Alessio Garavello:

"We are very sad to announce that Alessio Garavello will be leaving Power Quest after the festival shows in September. Alessio has been the voice of Power Quest ever since the 'Wings of Forever' album back in 2002, and has also had two stints of playing rhythm guitar in the band as well. In that time he has established himself as one of the top power metal vocalists in the business.

"Founding member Steve Williams commented: 'I have to say I was surprised when I got the call from Alessio telling me the news. I can hardly believe it is 7 years since a fresh faced, 21 year old Italian came over to record for the first time. We didn't know it then but it was the start of a great friendship, which will transcend band membership and all that. We always say in PQ that you only get one life and you have to make the absolute most of it. Sometimes that involved difficult decisions such as the one Alessio has made. I fully respect and support his decision and wish him all the best in his future musical endeavours. I'd like to thank Al for all his hard work and commitment to the cause over the years and, following the departure of Steve Scott earlier this year, it is truly the end of an era.'

"Here's what Alessio himself had to say: ''After a long journey together with my band mates in PQ I've decided to choose a different musical path. We've passed through so many experiences and good/bad moments together that will always be part of me and of my life, and this has created a really strong friendship between us. It's been some awesome years of recording and touring and it is sad to write these lines, but it's for a good cause: PQ needs to be fronted by someone that really deserves to be in the first row singing those great songs. It was me for 7 years, now its time to pass the torch. I just want to thank from the bottom of my heart Steve, Andrea, Francesco and Oliver, all the great musicians that has been part of PQ and every fan that loved what we've created playing together!! A big thanks to our great manager Manuela and our road crew Simon and Paul. You simply rock! It's time for me to face different musical challenges and to see where I'll head with my new rock band in London!''

Power Quest are starting the search to find a world class vocalist to front the band and to jump straight in to working on the 5th Power Quest record.

Whyzdom - New Album Cover Art And Release Date Revealed, Song Online

The band has uploaded a new song titled "Atlantis" from their upcoming album to their myspace page. Also the following message has been posted on the Ascendance Records blog:

"Ascendance Records are proud to announce the release of the début album from Whyzdom entitled "From The Brink Of Infinity" on the 21st September.

Go here to see the album cover.

Think of a huge orchestra and a massive symphonic choir intertwined with powerful riffs and enchanting melodies from a clear and passionate feminine voice, and you'll get an idea of what Whyzdom have managed to create. Their classical influences ranging from the romantic to the contemporary period, as well as the appealing melodies that drive the songs, make their sound utterly unmistakeable in an ever growing scene.

The project was founded by the guitarist and orchestrator Vynce Leff in early 2007, already well known in the progressive sphere having produced several successful albums for the British label Cyclops Records. It is fronted by Telya Melane, a singer and actress, fond of metal, classical music and theatre. The other members Regis Morin, Tristan Demurger, Nicolas Chaumeaux and Marc Ruhlmann joined soon after and a first EP '"Daughter Of The Night" was recorded less than 6 months from the band's inception. It got instant acclaim from reviewers and music fans around the world, as well as several awards and plaudits (Best French Band 2008 - Metalsymphonique.com, Best EP - HeavyLaw.com, etc).
Go here for the Metal Storm review of "Daughter Of The Night".

Although still a young band, Whyzdom were invited to play in several festivals in France - most of the time as headliner - and won the Metal Female Voices Fest Contest in Belgium in October 2008. They will play in the 7th edition of this great Festival (17/10/2009) to launch their début album.

Lyrically "From The Brink Of Infinity" is an attempt to explore the feelings of human beings when confronted with the mystery of life and death. The album deals with the fear of crossing the line between the finite lapse of life and the infinity of death. Different characters, having come very close to that line, express themselves in the songs through Telya's voice, to tell their story as a form of catharsis.

It's a very strong album from a new band that has an unmistakable well of experience to draw upon within their ranks. Bombastic, ambitious and epic, Whyzdom have already made their indelible mark on the scene!

Crimson Glory - Former Singer Midnight Passed Away

On July 8, 2009, founding member and original Crimson Glory frontman Midnight passed away at 3:30am surrounded by his family. An official statement reads as follows:

On July 8th, 2009 the world lost one of its greatest singer/songwriters. Founding member and original Crimson Glory frontman Midnight (John Patrick McDonald, Jr.) passed away peacefully, (in true Midnight form on an eerily cloudy, full moon-lit night) at 3:30am with his family by his side. He was 47 years old.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 11th at 6:30pm at Siesta Key public beach (just south of main pavillion). This celebration of Midnight's life will be open to all who wish to attend. The band has released the following statements:

"Midnight was a very special soul with a beautiful heart...

To try to describe his many gifts through the limiting restraints of text and typeset is like trying to describe a thousand rainbows to a blind man who never learned to count. His mind was both extraordinarily beautiful and enticingly frightening, an indescribably mysterious place from which came some of the most brilliantly creative and soulfully poignant lyrics in the history of heavy metal. He was not always understood, but his talents were undeniable and transcended far beyond the bounds of our weaker imaginations.

As is the case with all truly great artists, Midnight was hounded by his demons... but he put them to work, using them to pull back the curtains of his cosmic wonderland and reveal the pieces and parts that made him who he was: the soft vulnerable child, the eccentric and maniacal genius, the soaring passionate believer, the charming and mischievous imp, the wistful dream weaver... discovering Midnight was like discovering a new reality for us; we knew from the moment we first heard him sing that he was something special, and we all feel honored that he shared himself not just with us, but with the rest of the world.

Midnight's voice was truly unique; he had such an emotional, magical, mystical quality that most singers never have or come close to achieving. That voice took all who heard it through highs and lows, through triumph and suffering; every word, every note touching, reaching deep inside and commanding response and feeling. He was a great influence for metal singers and will continue to be for many years to come.

Despite his personal demons we always loved him and hoped that one day he would get well. We will miss him dearly. He was one of us...our friend, our brother. Midnight was and will always be the singer for Crimson Glory. He is at peace now; he will always live in our hearts...he is forever."

Twilightning - Call It Quits

Twilightning has decided to call it quits. A message from the band reads as follows: "We discovered the fact that the drive has vanished and there's no point of going on without the full force and motivation. Then we just not only would cheat ourselves but also our fans. Everyone continues to pursue their musical careers on their own projects and bands. Twilightning thanks all of it's fans and everyone that has somehow helped or been there. The past eleven years has changed our lives."

Ravage - New Album Details

Boston Massachusetts metalers Ravage are ready to unleash their Metal Blade Records debut, "The End of Tomorrow" on August 18th 2009. Artwork was handled by the famed artist Ed Repka who is known best for his Megadeth covers as well as cover art for Death, Municipal Waste, Toxic Holocaust, and Austrian Death Machine. "The End of Tomorrow" seamlessly intertwines the sounds of New Wave of British Heavy Metal, late 80's American Thrash Metal and late 90's European power metal to showcase the band's signature style. The album is sure to be enjoyed by metal maniacs young and old as it blends the soaring vocal and guitar melodies of Iron Maiden and Helloween with the raw power of thrashers like Testament and Kreator, presented in a crisply modern production-style courtesy of producer Peter Rutcho.

Here's what vocalist Al Ravage has to say; "This album has been a very, very long time in the making and we'd like to thank Metal Blade for giving traditional, no-bullshit, American heavy metal a chance again. Also thanks to Peter Rutcho for his great production work on the album (giving new life and freshness to a classic sound), and Ed Repka (for inviting you all to share a glimpse into Ravage's corner of the singularly demented alternate reality he has created with mere brush strokes). 'The End' is finally near! Get ready to Ravage and we'll see you on tour this fall."

"The End of Tomorrow" cover art] tracklisting:

01. The Halls of Madness
02. Reign Fall
03. Freedom Fighter
04. Damn Nation
05. The Shredder
06. Into The Shackles
07. In Shattered Dreams
08. The Nightmare's Hold: Part 1
09. Nightcrawler
10. The Nightmare's Hold: Part 2
11. Grapes of Wrath
12. The End of Tomorrow

"The End of Tomorrow" is only the beginning for Ravage, who are only in their mid-20's, despite having played together for over 10 years! Expect to see Ravage's Metal Blade debut, "The End of Tomorrow", to drop August 18th with touring leading up to and throughout the release of the album.

Machine Head - Pull Out Of Sonisphere UK

Machine Head announced that the band will no longer play the upcoming Sonisphere Festival at Knebworth, UK:

"It is with the utmost disappointment that we must announce that Machine Head will not be playing the Sonisphere date at Knebworth in the U.K. on August 2nd.

In a turn of events that has left us absolutely baffled, the promoter of the U.K. Sonisphere festival recently placed, unbeknownst to us, Limp Bizkit in our 3rd slot on the festival. Seeing as the running order was a significant part of the negotiation and agreement between us and the promoter, and the fact that we had been advertised in that slot since the festival's announcement, you can imagine our surprise when we were "told" that we would now be playing in the 4th slot, under Limp Bizkit, and bizarrely, it was actually expected that we would quietly move down the bill without issue. We will not.

Machine Head turned down the U.K.'s Download Festival, a festival we are very fond of - which incidentally, had us above Limp Bizkit - to commit to the Knebworth festival, as we felt a closer kinship to the bands performing this year. In an effort to make this situation in Knebworth work, we have spent more than a week striving to resolve this issue in a proper manner. Unfortunately, that did not happen.

So we have regrettably been left with no choice but to cancel our appearance rather than stand for the disrespect and indignity offered by a promoter who won't honor our agreement. While we know that our fans will be furious about this situation - as are we, beyond words - we trust that you will all understand our position, and we encourage you to voice your opinion about it as loud and clear as possible.

The rest of our festival dates across Europe, including the other Sonisphere dates, as well as our headline of the Wacken festival remain unchanged."

Souldrainer - Working On New Material

Swedish melodic death metallers Souldrainer have issued the following update:

"We just started to record a couple of more songs at Empire Studio and we will record about 3 songs at a time and let you download it, burn it, give it away and bang your heads to it cuz it's more important to let you hear our new material than wait for a label to sell it to you. We don't need a label to serve you a professional production anyway! In true DIY spirit we will distribute the songs, mainly the digital fashion, but you will also be able to buy a physical product if you want something to put in your hands. Of course to a reasonable price and not the fantasy prices record label would charge!"

Support Hellfest Against A Smear Campaign!

A blog has been created to support Hellfest, following the smear campaign orchestrated by Catholic fundamentalists. Here's the translation of their opening post:

"Please note that following an increase in attacks by the CNI, UMP, UNI and Catholic fundamentalists, the festival of extreme rock music "Hellfest" is in danger.

Indeed, these organizations oppose the communities' financial support (Regional Council, General Council, Municipality) toward Hellfest (which represents only 2% of total budget).

A minority of conservative activists organized a campaign amalgam (desecration = metal = Satanism) to these communities and private partners (Coca Cola and Kronenbourg).

Thousands of messages were sent to both public and private partners.
The result was swift: Coca Cola disengaged from Hellfest, and the "Ouest France" newspaper reduces its editorial line concerning Hellfest.

A blog was set up to try to stop this smear campaign.

http://prohellfest.wordpress.com

You'll find the various support actions under way for which your participation is more than required.

Best regards,
Hellfest Freedom Committee"

Well, it's all in French, but the actions they propose right now are to do some lobbying, as the fundamentalists did. You'll find letter models to send to Cola-Cola, Ouest-France and Kronenbourg (the beers, note that they still support Hellfest) and also to the Clisson Town Council, departemental and regional councils, with the links on the same page http://prohellfest.wordpress.com/actions-pour-le-festival/operation-de-soutie/.
