Ozzy Osbourne - Takes Legal Action Against Tony Iommi

Posted last night on Ozzy Osbourne's blog.

Below is my official press statement on the official Black Sabbath trademark lawsuit. I am very saddened that I've had to take legal action against Tony. This is something that I've tried to avoid for years. I am not Geezer or Bill's voice. However, till the day I die I will not change my mind on this issue. The Black Sabbath trademark should be equally owned by Geezer, Bill, Tony and I as the true Black Sabbath lineup is Tony, Geezer, Bill and I. We've all been mates since school. I've always said there is an invisible thread that holds us together. Tony, lets get this ridiculous issue sorted and move on with our lives. You're 61, I'm 60. I hope that we've got a good 20 years left in us. But if not, God Forbid something happens to you. What's going to happen to the Black Sabbath trademark? Who's going to oversee it? Don't you think after we're long gone the rights should stay in your family, my family, Bill's family and Geezer's family?

Statement from Ozzy Osbourne:

"It is with great regret that I had to resort to legal action against my long term partner, Tony Iommi, but after three years of trying to resolve this issue amicably, I feel I have no other recourse. As of the mid-1990's, after constant and numerous changes in band members, the brand of "Black Sabbath" was literally in the toilet and Tony Iommi (touring under the name Black Sabbath) was reduced to performing in clubs. Since 1997 when Geezer, Bill and myself rejoined the band, Black Sabbath has returned to its former glory as we headlined sold-out arenas and amphitheatres playing to upwards of 50,000 people at each show around the world. We worked collectively to restore credibility and bring dignity back to the name "Black Sabbath" which lead to the band being inducted into the UK and US Rock & Roll Hall of Fames in 2005 and 2006, respectively. Throughout the last 12 years, it was my management representatives who oversaw the marketing and quality control of the "Black Sabbath" brand through Ozzfest, touring, merchandising and album reissues. The name "Black Sabbath" now has a worldwide prestige and merchandising value that it would not have had by continuing on the road it was on prior to the 1997 reunion tour. Tony, I am so sorry it's had to get to this point by me having to take this action against you. I don't have the right to speak for Geezer and Bill, but I feel that morally and ethically the trademark should be owned by the four of us equally. I hope that by me taking this first step that it will ultimately end up that way. We've all worked too hard and long in our careers to allow you to sell merchandise that features all our faces, old Black Sabbath album covers and band logos, and then you tell us that you own the copyright. We're all in our 60's now. The Black Sabbath legacy should live on long after we have all gone. Please do the right thing."

Twisted Sister - 25th Anniversary Edition Release Details

Rhino Records press release

After rocking clubs from Los Angeles to New York City for more than a decade, Twisted Sister made its bones in 1984 with the quintet's second Atlantic Records release, a Top 20 album that stormed the charts with a string of hit singles and genre-bending videos. Rhino proudly wears a Twisted Sister pin on its uniform, celebrating the album's multi-platinum success with a 25th Anniversary Edition that includes a bonus disc of unreleased outtakes and early demos from the original sessions, as well as a new track recorded especially for this collection by the 1984 lineup: Dee Snider, Jay Jay French, Eddie Ojeda, Mark Mendoza, and A.J. Pero. "Stay Hungry" 25th Anniversary Edition will be available June 30 from Rhino Records.

The first disc contains remastered versions of the nine tracks from the May 1984 original. The album was a smash thanks to a pair of fist-pumping anthems of youthful rebellion "I Wanna Rock" and "We're Not Gonna Take It" that went Top 40. The band balanced those catchy songs with the harder edge of metal classics like "Burn In Hell" and "Horror-Teria," a macabre song that would later serve as the inspiration for Strangeland, a 1998 horror film written by Snider, who also starred as the sadistic Captain Howdy.

The bonus disc uncovers 15 unreleased recordings that range from alternate versions of album tracks--including "We're Not Gonna Take It"--to several non-album tracks such as "Death From Above," "Prime Motivator," and "Pay The Price," a song from the band's earlier club days. Along with the vintage tracks, the collection includes "30," Twisted's first new song in 11 years recorded by the band for the 25th Anniversary Edition.

"30" was originally written by Dee Snider with Marc Beeman and Sharon Lawson for the reality series Gone Country. Dee says, "While '30' was my attempt at a country song for the show, the realization was that rock 'n' roll is a direct outgrowth of country music. Since '30' was written about my Twisted Sister experience, it seemed only natural for us to record it and rock it out."

More than a decade after Twisted Sister's last show, the band reformed in 2001 for a benefit and continued playing together, including an astonishing run of over 50 headline festival dates performing in front of two million people in over 23 countries. In 2006, the band returned to the charts with Twisted Christmas, a holiday album that buzzsaws through yuletide classics such as, "Oh Come All Ye Faithful" and "Silver Bells." That same year, the Long Island Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inducted Twisted Sister. The band is currently at work on a new album and a Broadway musical based on Twisted Christmas. Twisted Sister will headline the annual Rocklahoma music festival July 9-12 in Pryor, Oklahoma. Rock of Ages, Broadway's latest musical hit with five Tony® nominations, features Twisted Sister prominently in its story line and with the band's aforementioned iconic anthems, "I Wanna Rock" and "We're Not Gonna Take It."

Behemoth - New Album Details Revealed

Original news, posted on 19.05.2009

Polish blackened death metal band Behemoth has announced a new artwork and release date for an upcoming album ''Evangelion''. The new album is scheduled for relase on August 7 via Nuclear Blast in Europe and August 11 via Metal Blade in US. Album artwork can be viewed here: http://www.behemoth.pl/en/index.php?type=hi.

Commented Nergal:

"Evangelion combines a pure art form with a direct message. It was also important for us to ensure that the graphical presentation did justice to the record. Again, we have worked with Tomasz Danilowicz who has created his best illustration yet for Behemoth. The picture is of The Great Harlot of Babylon riding the seven-headed beast. Saints bow before her in worship whilst the tablets of the Ten Commandments lie broken at her feet. It represents our vision and the interpretation of the New Testament parable where the "Whore of Babylon" is a symbol of rebellion and resistance against God. I am fascinated by stories whose source lies in the Bible and we have used biblical symbolism, coupled with my own experience and outlook, in our lyrics or on the covers of previous Behemoth records. I love to juggle with meanings and play around with symbolism which is exactly what I have done in this case. The main character of our new cover is an archetype of disobedience, individualism, self-determination and a free, unfettered will - these are universal keywords which are typical and crucial in understanding the character of our works, life as a whole and the true nature of man."

UPDATE (Source: blabbermouth)

Behemoth will release their ninth full-length studio album, "Evangelion", on August 7 in Europe via Nuclear Blast Records and August 11 in North America through Metal Blade. The CD was mixed at Miloco Studios in London, England by Colin Richardson, who has previously worked with Machine Head, Slipknot, Napalm Death and Bullet For My Valentine among many others.

"Evangelion" tracklisting:

01. Daimonos
02. Shemaforash
03. Ov Fire And The Void
04. Transmigrating Beyond Realms Ov Amenti
05. He Who Breeds Pestilence
06. The Seed Ov I
07. Alas, Lord Is Upon Me
08. Defiling Morality Ov Black God
09. Lucifer

The digipack edition will include a bonus DVD with behind-the-scenes footage and expanded artwork.

Judas Priest - To Release New Live Album

Original news, posted on 18.05.2009

As posted today on the official Judas Priest website: Judas Priest will shortly be releasing a LIVE ALBUM consisting of eleven tracks - all previously unreleased in a live version! The album is due out in JULY 2009 and will be entitled: "Judas Priest - A Touch Of Evil - LIVE"

All of the tracks were recorded throughout the JUDAS PRIEST WORLD TOURS in 2005 and 2008. More information to follow shortly!"

UPDATE (thanks to 20323)

Official press release

As the creators of a live release that is considered to be one of the all-time great concert recordings in the realm of heavy metal (1979's "Unleashed In The East"), whenever Judas Priest announce a new live album, metalheads worldwide instantly take note. And on "A Touch of Evil: Live" (due for release in July 2009 via Sony Music and Epic Records), the mighty Priest - which includes singer Rob Halford, guitarists Glenn Tipton and KK Downing, bassist Ian Hill, and drummer Scott Travis - doesn't disappoint. Focusing primarily on fan-revered album cuts (all previously unreleased in live form on CD), "A Touch of Evil: Live" features absolutely scintillating renditions of such Priest gems as "Riding on the Wind," "Beyond the Realms of Death," "Dissident Aggressor," "A Touch of Evil," "Eat Me Alive," and the set-closing "Painkiller." Also of note are the first live album appearances of standouts from Priest's critically acclaimed 2008 concept double disc, 'Nostradamus' ("Death" and "Prophecy").

Recorded by Martin Walker and Brian Thorene during the Judas Priest's mammoth 2005 and 2008 world tours, "A Touch of Evil: Live" also marks the first Priest album that producer Tom Allom has worked on since 1988 (co-producing along with the band). It was such Allom-produced albums as the aforementioned "Unleashed in the East," as well as "British Steel" and "Screaming for Vengeance" (among others) that made Priest not only one of the premier metal acts, but one of the leading global rock acts. As heard throughout "A Touch of Evil: Live," Priest remain a must-see live act... and a must-hear one, as well.

Annotations Of An Autopsy - Working On New Material

Annotations Of An Autopsy have issued the following update:

"So we've been away for a while, not touring or doing anything public, we havent been slacking, we've been locked away working on the new album which is now complete. In July we will be stepping into Foel studio (Napalm Death, Electric Wizard) to record our 2nd album entitled, "II: The Reign Of Darkness". Artwork and tracklisting will be released soon.

We are very excited to get this album out to you. we feel we've created something very special and unique and one of the best death metal cd's to come out in a long time, call it arrogance, call it confidence call it what you want but when you hear it, you'll see our statements are backboned, the aim of the last album was to be as heavy as possible, this is ten steps up and a reality check for the death metal scene.
Its not just about being heavy, its about writting the best songs possible, which we feel we have, this is going to turn alot of heads.

The album is dark, atmospheric and savage the concept is based around corruption, religion, sloth, devolution, emptiness and the future or lack of.

As you can see on our page we have a new logo too, the point of this is to get our name even further out there with a readable logo, the old logo isn't being thrown away we are stll using it on some merch items as we know you like it so dont moan.

We'll also be recording our first ever music video! At the moment the track we are thinking of doing it for is "Impale The Sun" which some of you may have heard us play at Hammerfest.

What does it sound like? Annotations Of An Autopsy! We've been away, but now were back to reclaim our crown as the leaders of UK death metal."
