Dragonlord - Tour Cancelled

The following announcement has been posted on the official Dragonlord (The Black Metal side project of Testament guitarist Eric Peterson) website :

"I have been informed that Gian Pyres, Dragonlord guitarist, has developed very bad tendonitis in his left hand. Accordingly, his doctor advises refraining from playing guitar for the immediate future for fear of more permanent damage. Therefore, he is not available for the scheduled Dragonlord tour and thus the Dragonlord tour must be postponed at this time.

He apologizes for any and all inconveniences as does Dragonlord, and hopes that the tour can be rescheduled as soon as possible. At this time, due to the foregoing unforeseen problem, the Dragonlord Tour from June 23, 2006 to July 8, 2006, is cancelled.

Best Regards,

Dragonlord Management"

Mercenary - New Album Title Revealed

The following statment was posted at Mercenary's official website:

"We've been waiting for this moment for a long time, and now it's finally here.
The new Mercenary album - the follow up to "11 Dreams" - is done.
The recordings ended on Friday, April 7th.
We're also finally able to spill out some more details that we've had on the tip of our tongues for several months:

The new album title is: "The Hours that Remain"

The album will contain 10 brand new songs - about 60 minutes of playing time.
Some track titles are; "The Year of the Plague", "My world is Ending", "Obscure Indiscretion" & "Lost Reality".

We're very happy with the result - and if you like "11 Dreams" you'll definately like this as well. "The Hours
that Remain" has the custom Mercenary riffs and sound, but a lot more heavy, speedy and melodic at the
same time. We've gone even further in mixing the different styles as we like them into a nice "Mercenary" type blend.

"The Hours that Remain" will also include special guests, that we keep a secret for now.

As for the art work, we've decided to go another round with Travis Smith (Nevermore, Testament, SYL etc.).
Travis also did the "Everblack" artwork for us and we're very happy with the layouts he has done for
"The Hours that Remain" so far.

"The Hours that Remain" -was recorded at Jacob Hansen Studios from march 11th - April 7th.
The mixing will take place 5th - 15th of May. Mastering will once again be handled by Ziggy.at zigzound Studios."

Dååth - Sign With Roadrunner Records

Roadrunner Records announced the signing of death metal band Daath.

DAATH (pronounced like "Goth," but with a "D") were signed by longtime Roadrunner A&R man Monte Conner. Says Conner: "DAATH fuses elements of cutting-edge death and black metal with expansive orchestral and electronic themes. I haven't signed a death metal band since the early 90's, when that whole scene reached a serious saturation and then stagnation point. But I never stopped following that genre and when DAATH came along, I finally heard a new band who injected originality, excitement and fresh ideas back into that style of music."

DAATH, featuring Sean Farber (vocals), Michael Kameron (synth, backing vocals), Eyal Levi (guitar), Emil Werstler (guitar), Jeremy Creamer (bass), and Matt Ellis (drums), were brought to Conner's attention via colleague and friend, former Disincarnate/Obituary/Death/Testament guitarist-turned-producer, James Murphy, who took the band into the studio last year to co-produce and mix ten songs.

Levi commented: "Since the beginning we've believed that Roadrunner was the most appropriate label for DAATH. They are the torch bearers for the metal world and we are proud to be joining their family."

DAATH will re-enter the studio with Murphy in May to record five more songs to round out the pool of tracks they will chose from to unleash as their forthcoming Roadrunner debut album, "The Hinderers" - due out this Fall. Besides the title track, some other songs set to appear include "Festival Mass Soulform,"Ovum," "Above Lucium" and "Who Will Take The Blame." Murphy makes a guest appearance on the album as well as former Chimaira/Dying Fetus drummer, Kevin Talley, who tracked drums on two songs.

Venom - Ultimate Venom Box Set

The Ultimate Venom Box Set, MMV

Available November 8th Through Sanctuary Records

Many bands have seemingly made a deal with the devil to mark their place in the annals of heavy metal history, but Venom was perhaps the first to outwardly flaunt such a pact and easily among the most influential. With their 1981 debut album "Welcome To Hell" and the ominous chant of, "Evil? In league with Satan!," Venom declared war on the status quo, spit in the face of the very notion of common decency, and set the pace for what was to come in the world of extreme music. The British trio of alcohol-fueled, evil-minded wild men created a legacy unlike any other, coining the phrase "black metal" and influencing such juggernauts as Slayer and Metallica. Indeed, the very image of Cronos, Mantas and Abaddon, as well as the pentagrams and inverted crosses that adorned their album covers, helped bring an image and an attitude to heavy metal that is still poignant to this day. MMV is a long overdue, four disc testament to the legacy of Venom.

MMV is a trek into the past, featuring demos, outtakes, rarities, a radio interview and alternative versions of songs. Such impactful Venom classics as "Black Metal", "In League With Satan", "Live Like An Angel (Die Like A Devil)", "Welcome To Hell", "Bloodlust" and "Acid Queen" are all represented in fully re-mastered form. Also included is a full disc of material from the Assault album series. Re-mastered and assembled by Cronos himself, the four disc collection comes packaged in a 6"x12" box, emblazoned with Venom's distinct logo and baphomet design. The box set includes a 60 page booklet and collector's poster. MMV's release comes at a very appropriate time: 2005 marks the 25th anniversary of Venom's storied career. Any metal enthusiast should make room in their collection for this audio-history of a band that changed the face of metal forever.

Old Man's Child - New Album Details Revealed

Old Mans Child Galder (Dimmu Borgir) returned to Studio Fredman in Gothenburg, Sweden (In Flames, Arch Enemy), with Patrik J. Sten and Fredrik Nordström helping to create a new monster of an album, grimly dubbed "Vermin". Putting an end to the two-year silence since their last album, "Vermin" showcases Galder handling the vocals, stringed instruments and keyboards himself, propelled by Danish beat-machine Reno H. Kiilerich, who was drafted by Dimmu Borgir as a live drummer after stints with Vile, Exmortem(and who won a drum contest displaying the fastest footwork after exceeding over 800 hits on the double-bass pedals in one minute). Also guesting on the album for a lead guitar piece is Testament, Dragonlord guitarist Eric Peterson, while the artwork was created around the album's lyrical concept by Greek designer Set (Rotting Chirst, Paradise Lost, Heaven Shall Burn). Punishing catchiness, challenging instrumental performances and an intense overall atmosphere are enhanced further by Galder's demonic vocal delivery, bringing the Old Mans Child name to a new level of coherence and savagery. "Vermin" is yet another masterpiece by Old Mans Child to add to your collection if you call yourself a supporter of quality black metal.

Tracklisting is as follows:

1. Enslaved And Condemned (4:15)
2. The Plague Of Sorrow (4:09)
3. War Of Fidelity (4:19)
4. In Torment's Orbit (5:04)
5. Lord Of Command (Bringer Of Hate) (4:51)
6. The Flames Of Deceit (4:39)
7. Black Marvels Of Death (4:22)
8. Twilight Damnation (4:42)
9. ...As Evil Descends (1:11)

Susperia - Announce Release Date and Details of EP

Susperia, the extreme melodic metal band from Norway have announced the official release date for their highly anticipated EP, 'Devil May Care'. The special edition CD will be released in Europe on September 26th through TABU Recordings.

The EP features a mix of original and cover songs that have been drawn from various recording sessions. Tracks appearing on the release are the 'Unlimited' album track 'Devil May Care', new song 'Venting The Anger' and three covers, which the band has been performing occasionally at live shows. 'Lack Of Comprehension' originally recorded by DEATH, 'Wild Child' originally recorded by WASP and the much sought after version of 'The Sun Always Shines On TV' - a worldwide hit for fellow Norwegians A-HA. As an added bonus the release contains the promo videos for 'Chemistry' and 'Devil May Care' as well as screensavers, wallpapers and booklet picture gallery. The EP was completed at StrandStudio in Oslo, Norway. Production duties were once again handled by the band and engineered by Marius Strand.

Work on the EP started in January, but was immediately beset by a series of problems, resulting in various delays to its release. The first complication came when vocalist Athera lost his voice during the recording. Further setbacks followed including technical hitches and missing artwork, before everything was finally complete and in the can.

Minor problems aside, 2005 has seen SUSPERIA continue to build on the success of the acclaimed 'Unlimited' album - regarded by many as one of the best rock / metal releases of 2004. Their efforts were recognised with a nomination in the "Metal" category at Norway's prestigious Alarm awards. On the live front Susperia were invited to be the main support on the 2005 'Reunion European Tour' of bay area thrash legends Testament. The time in between has been spent on writing new material for the next album, which will be due in 2006.

Metal Bible

Actually, it's not exactly what you may think... The Metal Bible is a special Bible version for all who are into metal music. It contains the New Testament in an easy to understand language as well as testimonies from metalheads that talk about what God and the Bible means to them.

Those metalheads include Nicko McBrain (Iron Maiden), Tommy Aldridge (Whitesnake), Brian Welsh (ex-Korn), Rob Rock, Michael Sweet (Stryper), Ken Tamplin, Metal Pastor Bob Beeman (Sanctuary International), Karl Walfridsson (Pantokrator), Shadows of Paragon, Luke Renno (Crimson Thorn), Simon "Pilgrim" Rosén (Crimson Moonlight), Christian Rivel (Narnia, Divinefire), Matt Smith (Theocracy), Ulf Christiansson (Jerusalem) as well as some others.

The purpose of this special Bible is to break down prejudices and misconceptions that many metalheads have about the Bible and help them to realize that the Bible is not a boring book but an interesting and living book that has a lot to tell us today, so that they through this special Bible version can realize that the Bible and it's message is something for them too. As a result of this many metalheads will check out the Bible and through it find Christ.

Heathen - Mike Jastremski Passed Away

Former HEATHEN bassist Mike "Yaz" Jastremski passed away this morning (May 23). No further information is currently available.

Jastremski performed on HEATHEN's classic 1987 debut "Breaking the Silence" before leaving the group a short time later to form PIGS. He eventually rejoined HEATHEN in time for their appearance at the August 2001 Thrash of the Titans benefit concert for TESTAMENT frontman Chuck Billy.

HEATHEN parted ways with Jastremski in June 2004 over what was rumored at the time to be Yaz's "continued drug and drinking problems." He was replaced in the group by Jon Torres, who had previously participated in such bands as THUNDERHEAD, WARNING SF, ULYSSES SIREN, LAAZ ROCKIT and ANGEL WITCH.

HEATHEN guitarist Lee Altus said at the time of Yaz's final departure from the band, "We're sorry to see go and wish him all the best. He is a good friend and I'm glad that we parted ways without any animosity and can still remain best of friends."

Tuska Open Air Festival 2005 - The Last News...

TUSKA OPEN AIR METAL FESTIVAL PRESS RELEASE

- Mnemic and Paska complete the 2005 line-up
- Tuska Warm-up party on June 15th at Tavastia in Helsinki - exclusive
Amorphis-show

Tuska Open Air Metal Festival taking place in Kaisaniemi, Helsinki,
during 15.-17.7. has completed the 2005 line-up.

The sole vacant slot on Saturday has now been occupied by Danish future
metallers Mnemic. The Danes just recently played their first show in
Finland at the Finnish Metal Expo and will now return to perform to
larger crowds.

Not many people outside of Finland have heard about the performance
artist known as Paska. His eccentric and certainly very original
performances can be seen on all stages throughout the weekend. Be warned.

The only missing act at this stage is the winner of the band contest at
Rotonde-Festival at the end of May.

According to the tradition established in prior years, a Tuska warm-up
party will take place at the infamous Tavastia Club in Helsinki on
Wednesday, 15th of June. The crowd will be treated with the only live-
performance of the summer by the legendary Amorphis. These true veterans
of Finnish metal will be warmed up by the groovy Rust and up and coming
melodic emocore act April. Amorphis have just recently returned from a
successfull North - American tour with their newly recruited singer Tomi
Joutsen. In other Amorphis-related news, the band signed a fresh
recording contract with German Nuclear Blast Records and will soon enter
the studio to record a follow up to their 2003 album Far From The Sun.

Tuska 2005 evening clubs offer more variety than ever in terms of venues
and acts. Tavastia and Manala will carry on from last year, and as for
new locations, Tuska will pay homage to its original festival site, VR-
Makasiinit by hosting evening clubs on Friday and Saturday. Gloria will
be the location of first ever all-ages -Tuska-clubs. Also a new addition
is the recently opened, widely popular NiteLife Rock, a.k.a. Talevala.
The programme for all Tuska 2005 evening clubs will be released in May.

Tickets for Tuska 2005 are currently on sale. Three day ticket costs 67
euro and one day tickets 32 euro each. Tickets are available through
Lippupalvelu (www.lippupalvelu.fi) and Tiketti (www.tiketti.fi).

Tickets for Tuska Warm-up are available only at www.tiketti.fi for 10
euro. Tickets will go on sale on Tuesday April 26th.

Current Tuska 2005 artist roster reads as follows. Please note that
showdays concerning some acts are subject to change.

Temple Of Brutality - W.A.S.P. Drummer Joins

The new band featuring former MEGADETH/current F5 bassist David Ellefson, guitarist Peter Scheithauer (BELLADONNA, KILLING MACHINE) and vocalist Todd Barnes (13-A) has changed its name to TEMPLE OF BRUTALITY from the previously announced ENEMY OF GOD. The group, who have acquired the services of drummer Stet Howland (W.A.S.P.) following the departure of Jon Dette (ex-SLAYER, TESTAMENT), are said to follow a very aggressive musical direction in the vein of SLAYER and PANTERA. The band are currently seeking a label deal for their debut album, tentatively due before the end of the year.

Tuska - Program Almost Complete

TUSKA OPEN AIR METAL FESTIVAL ANNOUNCMENT

- Line-up almost complete, one more artist to be added
- Ticket sales start on Friday April 1st

Tuska Open Air Metal Festival has added more international and Finnish acts to the 2005 roster. The line-up is almost complete with only 1 more artist to be added for Saturday afternoon as well as the winner from the band contest at Rotonde-Festival, France, which is to be held later this spring. This year's Tuska-Festival is more international than ever, with nearly half of the artists coming from abroad. The evening clubs will most likely see some international action as well.

New additions in Finnish professionalism will be represented by Apocalyptica, whose cello metal is witnessed way too rarely on their native soil. Apocalytica just recently supported Rammstein on their
European tour and appeared stateside on a few selected dates.

German precision and universal greatness is brought to you by the mighty Gamma Ray. The band last appeared on the bill at Tuska 2000 and have since built their fanbase by selling out club shows on a regular basis.

Other additions include up-and-coming death metallers Amoral, Finnish-singing Stam1na and Viikate, as well as Callisto who are about to embark on a European tour in a few weeks.

The search continues for one more, either domestic or foreign artist.

Ticket sales for Tuska 2005 start on Friday April 1st. Three-day ticketcosts 67 euro, one-day ticket 32 euro. Go to http://www.lippupalvelu.fi to purchase tickets.

Tuska Open Air Festival - More Artists Announced

The eighth annual Tuska Open Air Metal Festival at Kaisaniemi Park in Helsinki, Finland during 15.-17.7. has confirmed more Finnish and international artists. The 2005 festival will once again present more than thirty bands from different styles of metal, several of which will be announced on a later date. Already at this point, it is once again evident that there will be something for each and every taste, from old school thrash to modern black metal and everything in between.

Saturday 16.7. will be headlined by the infamous Norwegian black metallers Dimmu Borgir. The band has pushed the boundaries of symphonic black metal with every record and are currently preaparing their next release. That is the reason why the group has toured very scarcely in recent times. Their Tuska-performance will be one of few selected festival shows the band will do next summer. Dimmu Borgir was originally scheduled to play at Tuska 2004 but after being offered one of the headlining slots at Ozzfest, they obviously had to cancel their appearance.

Friday night will be closed by American Space-Stoner group Monster Magnet. Vocalist Dave Wyndorf's trimmed moustache and leatherpants were last witnessed on Finnish soil at last year's Ruisrock Festival, where allegedly pants were wet, water turned to beer and the sun stopped shining during their breathtaking performance. Expect no less at Tuska 2005 as well as Ilosaarirock where Monster Magnet will take the stage on Saturday.

Finnish funeral atmosphere will be provided by Sentenced, who will embark on their farewell tour over the summer. This true Tuska-veteran has appeared on the bill several times, therefore it's more than appropriate that their final tour will take them to Kaisaniemi Park, one last time.

Other international competence at Tuska 2005 will be represented by German veteran thrashers Destruction and fellow germans Primal Fear, who will give their debut Finnish performance at Tuska. Swedish goth metallers Lake Of Tears and UK-based folkmetal group Bal-Sagoth have been
requested for a long time by the audience and finally the wait is over, as both have been added to the roster. History is also in the making, as Tuska 2005 will present the first Russian band in the festival's history. Progressive death metallers Hieronymus Bosch have been in the game since the early nineties, therefore their appearance at the festival is very justified.

Speaking of firsts, another one is the debut performance by Wintersun, the new melodic death metal supergroup spearheaded by ex-Ensiferum vocalist Jari Mäenpää. Drum duties are performed by the extraordinaire Rotten Sound -drummer Kai Hahto, second guitar is played by the young Imperanon-axeman Teemu Mäntysaari and Norther-bassplayer Jukka Koskinen will take care of the low end.

Testament - To Record New Album, Reunion Tour

TESTAMENT manager Phil Arnold of Thrill Entertainment has issued the following update on the band's current and upcoming activities:

"In prepping for the next studio album, TESTAMENT re-opened its Driftwood Studios at a new location. They had shut down the Oakland industrial-area site when Chuck Billy was going through his eventually-successful cancer treatments. With state-of-the-art HD ProTools upgrades installed, Driftwood continues an aggressive cutting edge approach that TESTAMENT embarked upon in Oakland with 'Demonic' , its 1997 #1 Metal Album. The prior Oakland location was also the recording home of their 1999 #1 Metal Album, 'The Gathering' .

"The new site, in downtown Pittsburg , CA , is an older cement-brick & mortar building with previous recording-studio history, a fact unknown until recently to Peterson and Billy . The new installation has an eerie-inhabitant vibe, because the deep-in-the-catacombs control-room motion detectors frequently go off at late-night/pre-dawn hours ? while no access to the building interior is possible without triggering the perimeter security systems, which remain silent. Oddly, the interior motion detectors never go off in daytime hours; and each time the late-night activity is investigated, no evidence of entry is detected and nothing is disturbed. No mice droppings ? no nothing.

"A retired local resident, who identified himself only as ' Frank ' ? a cousin of Kris Kristofferson and a former bass-player of WILLIE NELSON ? stopped by recently to nose around the boarded-up studio spot while it was under reconstruction by some new faces. The Pittsburg downtown area, on the Sacramento River delta, was once a thriving boomtown whose heyday was during WWII and the years following. Now mostly a bedroom community for commuters who work in or near San Francisco Bay , it is a last stop for them on one leg of the Bay Area BART train system.

" Frank , both friendly and curious, had a disarming demeanor and elicited some cordial dialogue about Driftwood being a private recording studio. The location looks like a no-name warehouse and except for the now-obvious security gates, you'd think it was vacant. Perfect for a private studio and the lair for the next spawning from TESTAMENT .

"His eyes lit up when Billy mentioned 'recording studio'. He said that previously this location had been occupied by the prestigious, yet underground, Norman Abercrombie Studios , a noted Bay Area jazz and blues recording spot for many years. It closed in the early '80s when Abercrombie retired. Billy laughed, and said it looked and felt like it had been vacant since the '80s, too.

Nevermore: News About New Album & Remixing EoR

The Seattle-based quintet NEVERMORE are currently wrapping up the songwriting process for their highly anticipated new album, set for a summer release. In February, the group will head to Backstage Studios in England to begin recording with legendary producer Andy Sneap (ARCH ENEMY, KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, OPETH). This will mark the group's first recording with guitarist Steve Smyth (ex-TESTAMENT). The band will proceed to debut some new material on a short European tour in March.

As previously reported, due to overwhelming demand, the group's critically acclaimed 2003 album, "Enemies of Reality", is currently being remixed by Sneap and will be repackaged with altered cover artwork, two promotional video clips (the title track and "I, Voyager") and a live video of the title track performed at Germany's Wacken Open Air festival this past summer.

The remixed "Enemies of Reality" will replace the existing version of the album in stores beginning in March. Fans who have already purchased the record and want to hear the new edition can special order it from the CenturyMedia.com web shop, where the CD itself will be sold individually (i.e., without jewel case and artwork) for $5, including shipping. The disc will be mailed in a CD sleeve; a link to a special web site containing the downloadable revised artwork will be included in order confirmation e-mails.

Warrel Dane (vocals) further describes his excitement over the album being remixed: "We're glad that we can all finally hear 'Enemies of Reality' the way it should have sounded in the first place. Andy's mixes sound brutal, and the infamous blanket of mud is gone. We're hard at work getting ready for the studio. The new material is shaping up to be some of our best work yet. We're psyched to get in the studio with Andy and tear it up again."
