Zonaria - Sign With Century Media Records
Token from the Century Media newsletter:
Swedish death/black hopefuls Zonaria have inked a worldwide deal with Century Media Records. The group has just entered the studio to record its second full-length album, tentatively due later in the year. Be sure to check out http://www.myspace.com/zonaria - but, be prepared for a sonic beat down.
Commented the band: "It is amazing how all this hard work paid off, and we can guarantee you great things this year and beyond. It has been a dream for all of us since we first started listening to metal. We listened to bands like Arch Enemy, Dark Tranquillity, Iced Earth and Dream Evil when we were just around 13-14 years old. If someone would have told us that we are going to be signed to the same label back then I'm pretty sure none of us would have believed it. Another equally great thing is that we are about to enter Studio Fredman (!), the studio where almost any great band worth mentioning has recorded their albums, to record our follow-up to "Infamy And The Breed". If any recording studio has been an unreachable dream for us so far ? it has been this one! So everyone, expect great things!"

Burzum - Varg Vikernes Allowed Day Passes
The website of Burzum's Varg Vikernes, who is currently serving a 21-year sentence for murder at Tromsø Prison in Norway, has been updated with the following message:
"Although Varg has been denied parole (in June), he is allowed to leave the prison for a while to walk aroud Tromsø and visit his family: his mother, his wife, a one-year-old son and a fifteen-year-old daughter. Varg's wife is now pregnant and they both are waiting for an addition to the family. Varg owns a small farm in Telemark (Norway), where he is planning to move as soon as he leaves the prison. Thus added several new photos done by Ingun Mæhlum."
"I'm ready for society ? and I have been for many years," Vikernes told the Norwegian newspaper Dagbladet in a brand new interview which was published on July 6. "I have learned from my mistakes and become older. Now I just want to be together with my family. My mind has never been in prison; I think all the time about what I should do on the day that I am released."
"I have barely seen my son since he came into the world. Even though I hear his voice on the phone almost every day, it is very tough to not be present while he is growing up. I miss my family. And I look forward the day that I could work on my farm, create music, write books and be with the wife and kids around the clock ? and live a normal life. I have received tremendous support from my family. It means a lot."

Whitesnake - Former Guitarist Passes Away
Classic Rock reports that, Mel Galley, guitarist of Trapeze and Whitesnake, has lost his battle with cancer of the oesophagus. The Midlands-born musician was a member of Finders Seekers with bassist Glenn Hughes, and together they co-founded Trapeze in 1969. He had just turned 60 years old - the photo with Glenn Hughes Link] was taken at his 60th birthday party.
"Mel was my hero growing up as a kid in Cannock," Hughes tells Classic Rock. "He was four years older than me and along with Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton was one of my guitar gods. He taught me music, and more importantly, how to live. After Cream, Trapeze were the greatest English rock trio." When Hughes reluctantly accepted an offer to join Deep Purple, a far bigger band, in 1973, Trapeze continued with Pete Goalby (later of Uriah Heep) on vocals. Along with brother Tom, Galley helped to guide the Phenomena project, which featured the likes of Cozy Powell, Neil Murray, Budgie's John Thomas and current Deep Purple keyboard player Don Airey, before accepting an offer from David Coverdale to join Whitesnake. Though he toured with the band and played on 1984's "Slide It In" album, a freak arm injury seemed to have curtailed Galley's career. However, with the help of a specially developed spring and wire device that was fitted to his hand, affectionately called 'The Claw', he was able to bypass the problematic nerve endings. In 1986 he formed MGM with fellow ex-Whitesnake alumni Bernie Marsden and Neil Murray, then worked on another Phenomena record. However, after a 1991 Trapeze reunion that featured Hughes and drummer Dave Holland, by then a star in his own right with Judas Priest, plus Geoffrey Downes of Asia on keyboards, Galley elected to retire from performing. After a well-publicised fracas with a stalker - curtailed when Galley confronted the individual on the latter's doorstep - he had just begun playing music again when his illness was diagnosed.
In February, Galley announced that he was dying of cancer. Bravely, instead of wallowing in self-pity he made the most of the time he had left. "I have been very lucky," he wrote at his MySpace site. "I have seen some great bands, played with many great musicians and enjoyed some tremendous experiences. I am thankful that I can say a proper goodbye to all the friends I have made, who are now rallying round me."
Even as his condition worsened, Galley continued to post encouraging, amusing updates. When he was no longer able to go to the pub, "now the pub to me," he joked. "Friends visit me each day, I have drugs in me 24/7, and I have a plentiful supply of gin and tonic by my bedside. I even have my own ice machine! In fact it's just like my Whitesnake days." "What grace and dignity indeed", marvels Glenn Hughes.

Daylight Dies - New Album Delayed
According to an official press release from Candlelight records:
"Due to unforeseen difficulties with the printing of the new Daylight Dies album "Lost To The Living", Candlelight Records have regretfully had to postpone its UK & European release date until 14th July 2008. This difficult decision has been taken in order to ensure that the band's vision for their stunning new album is preserved, and to make sure it looks as good as it sounds!
"Lost To The Living" features captivatingly dark original artwork from renowned artist Travis Smith, who has worked with the band before and whose other previous collaborations include Opeth, Anathema & Katatonia!
With their new album, Daylight Dies have put forth the most mature and varied release of their career. The lush textures which were introduced with the previous album continue and are greatly expanded upon. Acoustic and clean guitars ride alongside heavy rhythms more prevalently than previously, creating a multi-layered sound saturated in atmosphere and depth. "Lost To The Living" is a mix of beautiful melancholic leads and harsh dissonant rhythms; despair driven hooks and the overall dark atmosphere you've come to expect.
The release date for "Lost To The Living" through sites such as itunes remains unaffected, and the album is available for download since 30th June 2008."

Edguy - New Album Out In November
Edguy have entered the Gate Studios in Wolfsburg to record the follow-up of their chart breaker album "Rocket Ride". The new album will be produced by Sascha Paeth and is scheduled to be released in November 2008. The album will be entitled "Tinnitus Sanctus".
Tobias Sammet has got the following news in store: "The title just refers to the wall of sound that will bulldoze you. Let's be modest: We have ten extraordinary songs and this new album is gonna be our ticket to the hall of fame alongside with Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and AC/DC. There won't be a hit-single this time, not even a flop-single, haha; not only because most songs are too long for a single, but also because for a single we had to produce way more stuff, lose money and need a time frame to release it. The album would come later then and that would suck. For the record: Musically, we don't go back to the roots. It's not the "Legacy of Mandrake part 2" and it's not a little brother of Rocket Ride either. It's a new album and we've set off to new horizons once more! The stuff sounds really broad, very anthemic, heavy and ballsy. We've kept our trademarks and still there are a lot of elements that are different to anything we've done before. I know what some fans may think, because if my favourite bands would have come up with statements like that I would have been scared to death, but in our case I am sure this could be the album we'll be measured by in the future."
