Evergrey - Album Details Revealed

Sweden's Evergrey have posted the following studio update:

"It's been a long fucking year negotiating this deals, not something we've enjoyed too much, it's taken its toll on everything from economy to psyche. BUT now it's finally done and we are extremely curious on what the future has in it's hands for us!

We have made changes in everything surrounding Evergrey, everything from management, record-label to booking and, perhaps most important, changed our own approach to this thing called EVERGREY.

It came to a time a while ago where we ALL were tired of everything surrounding this bitch called the music-industry. It affected our whole perception of what and who we were, it most certainly killed everything close to joy and in the end made it feel like a boring 9 - 5 job where you don't like your co-workers and just want to go home.

But as I said, we've been through that now and coming out on the other end of this rather dark tunnel are 5 guys who have the same determination, goals and fire to keep this ball spinning for another couple of laps!

Here you have the 3rd trailer that I know you have been eagerly awaiting , somethings up with the compression level that makes the pics smaller so those look like shit? but hey ?. you're here to h e a r the God-damned thing, right? It contains all song titles for the regular edition of this release and the release day is the 2nd week of September but, you'll see something will probably come up and change that for the 10th time?..

I hope you enjoy it and we wish to hear ALL your thoughts, as they are what matter the most to us!"

"Torn" Cover Art] tracklisting:

01. Broken Wings

The Gathering - New Album On The Way

The Gathering have posted an update on their official website's forum about the new material they are currently working on.

"Dear all,
Sorry it has been a while since you've heard from us. We apologize for this. It actually means that we have been really busy with the band. During the last couple of months we created a lot of new ideas that lead to the first songs of our upcoming CD. Yes, we are working on a new album! Or actually, two new albums! Many of our new songs are very rock and guitar orientated and will end up on a heavy rock album for sure. The second album will be filled with more 'shoe gaze', dreamy tracks.
We can imagine if you are very curious about new vocalists. Currently, we are working with several. It feels very refreshing and interesting to work with different voices and it adds beautiful new colours to our music. Names will be presented as soon as our ideas become more concrete. As promised you will hear new material by the end of this year. The release of our new album is planned for Spring 2009.
On behalf of the band,
Hans Rutten"

Evergrey - Sign With Steamhammer/SPV

As posted on Evergrey's official website:

"Following intense and very constructive discussions, Steamhammer/SPV have announced their future collaboration with Swedish dark melodic metal act, Evergrey. The deal includes not only the group's brand-new studio album, "Torn", which will arrive at the stores at the beginning of September, but also Evergrey's complete back catalogue. Evergrey mastermind Tom S. Englund is looking forward to a productive cooperation with Steamhammer, explaining: "After long and intense negotiations, we feel that we have arrived at optimum conditions for everybody involved. We are confident that Evergrey will continue to grow artistically under the terms of this contract, that SPV will enjoy our cooperation and - this is definitely the most important aspect - that our fans will thoroughly benefit from the new deal."

The first stage of this ambitious target will see the release of Evergrey's new studio album, "Torn", at the beginning of September, featuring eleven compositions, described by Englund as a "modern mix of "In Search Of Truth" and "Recreation Day". "The tracks are all guitar-oriented and very atmospheric. They have exactly the sound that our fans expect from us." According to Englund, the slightly more experimental direction of Evergrey's previous release, "Monday Morning Apocalypse", has given way again to old strengths and virtues. "Two years ago we needed an album with a slightly different approach and an expensive producer, just to find out how that sort of thing works. It was the right album at the time, but now we have returned to our typical trademarks." This is one of the reasons why the tracks on "Torn" were self-produced by Englund together with drummer Jonas Ekdahl. In addition, the band has a new bassist, Fredrik Larsson having been replaced by former Stratovarius musician Jari Kainulainen.

Since the band arrived on the scene in 1998, Evergrey have brought out six studio albums and one live cut. All of them made the top 20 in their native Sweden and the last two made the top 10 (no. 6 and 3, respectively). On top of that, their DVD was number 1 for four weeks and nominated for a Grammy in Sweden. The band has toured around the globe several times, together with In Flames, Nevermore, Throwdown, Arch Enemy, Children Of Bodom and Iced Earth, among others. Along with "Torn", their new contract with Steamhammer/SPV includes the band's complete back catalogue, so top-quality reissues featuring a selection of bonus tracks are likely in future. "There is so much additional material for each album that we could theoretically re-release it on an extra DVD. Whatever we manage to do - premium reissues are certainly a possibility."

Cynic - Sign To Season Of Mist

The news was announced a few days ago already, but here's the official word from Seasons Of Mist:

"Season of Mist is really proud to announce that a new cult band just joined the roster. Let's welcome legendary American progressive jazzy death metal band Cynic! Most of the label's team have been a fan of the band's milestone and so far only album, "Focus", so needless to say we at Season of Mist are all extremely excited about this new collaboration. Here's frontman Paul Masvidal's comment about the signing:

"We're pleased to be back in business with Season of Mist as our record company. They have tremendous enthusiasm and passion for our work. Our bottom line was a company that understood what Cynic does and believes in it 100%. We found that with SOM. We're deep in the pre-production album process now and will be headed into the studio in a couple weeks to dive even deeper and start the recordings with our talented friend Warren Riker at the engineering / mixing helm. The journey of writing this record has taken Reinert and I to new heights of exploration, straight into the heart of Cynic's soul. We're thrilled to be able to share this new work with the best fans in the world. Stay tuned."

The release of Cynic's sophomore album, which will be out on Season of Mist fifteen years after "Focus", is set to next autumn. In the meantime, you can check the band's new MySpace profile http://www.myspace.com/cyniconline, on which you can hear an excerpt of the demo to the brand new track "Integral Birth"!

Shaped around founding members Paul Masvidal and Sean Reinert, the new line-up sees the return of bass god Sean Malone and the addition of Dutch guitarist Tymon Kruidenier who will also be in charge of 'death' vocals. The band are set to enter the studio this summer with Grammy Award winning Warren Riker (Down, Santana, etc.) to begin work on their long-awaited follow-up to "Focus". The album will contain eight songs, and the band are working once again with renowned artist Venosa (who created the unmistakeable cover and visuals for "Focus"), and the new album will be preceded by additional live shows, including a special appearance at Wacken Open Air, Germany, on next August 1st."

Detonation - Part Ways With Drummer Thomas Kalksma

Dutch death/thrash metal act Detonation have announced parting ways with drummer Thomas Kalksma. Kalksma was one of the original founders of the band and had been part of Detonation for over ten years. Commented by the band: "It was a very hard decision to make, but in the end both Thomas and the band agreed it would be better to part ways. We've had differences of opinion on the future of Detonation and these differences eventually where too strong to overcome. There are no hard feelings mutually and Detonation wish Thomas all the best for his future musical career."

Thomas' statement:

"I regret and feel very glad simultaneously to be leaving Detonation. After a lot of big ups an downs in this band, I feel that the abovementioned differences in opinion took away my passion for this band. Despite the fact that I've been jamming with Koen even before Detonation started, and the fact that i've put alot of effort in this band, I felt a huge need for change during the past months. Therefore i'll move forward and will focus on my other musical activities. I'm also open to interesting offers.

I want to thank all bookers, promoters, media and festivalorganisers and most importantly all FANS I have contact with. You are great and you haven't seen the last of me."

Detonation will continue writing for the forthcoming 4th studio album, however the band is now in search for a new drummer. If you have the skills, determination and personality we are looking for, please contact us through myspace or via info@detonation.nl !
