Akercocke - Bassist Leaves, Replacement Announced

Akercocke's bassist Peter Theobalds has announced his surprise departure from the band on January 18. This sudden news comes just as founding members Jason Mendonca and David Gray celebrate the band's tenth anniversary this year.

Peter has said of his departure:
"It's been possibly the most difficult decision in my life to make but after 10 years of the beast that Akercocke has become, it's time to hit the highway in search of new adventures. My reasons are many and varied but the principal factor has been that the original vibe that drove me to play has gone, the fun, the utter immersion of the music and friendship and the camaraderie has been slowly eroding for me personally over the last year or so.
It's given me so many unforgettable moments and brought me into contact with some amazing human beings and situations and I shall sincerely miss all of those aspects. But my heart tells me its time to seek other ideals and situation. I will NOT be giving up music however and will continue to bash out some form of pseudo metallic noise, until chronic rheumatoid arthritis turns my hands into claws or Alzheimer's finally puts paid to what little common sense I currently possess.

Massive massive respect to all those people that have been so unbelievably supportive and encouraging: - my family, the fans, the crews, the bands and other random maniacs that have been there for me all the way. I'd love to do a thank you list but it would just be so long and I'd inevitably forget someone and get branded a total cunt (again), so I'll just say that I raise a glass to all of your honour!
See you in the pit dear friends.

Respect
P."

Meanwhile, Akercocke continue and are pleased to announce Peter Benjamin (Concept, Corpsing, Pantheist) as their new bass player, as the band commence work on their fifth studio album at Goat of Mendes Studios London. The as yet untitled new album is slated for a May 14 2007 release on Earache Records.

Poland's Antigama has recently completed work on their Relapse Records debut album, "Resonance."

The effort was recorded in December at Studio X in Olsztyn, Poland by engineer Szymon Czech. The 18 song album is set for a May 2007 release. Advance song titles for Resonance include: "Seismic Report", "Ecstasy", "Pursuit", "Neutral Balance", "Order", "Pending", "Remembering Nothing", "By And By", "Shymrok", and "Stars."

"It's certainly the best sounding and most mature album of Antigama" says guitarist Sebastian Rokicki, "In short it's the most brutal, wild, astonishing, uncommon and experimental piece of music we've ever made."

Antigama vocalist Lukasz Myszkowski adds: "It was the first time we had so much time for the recording session. We freed ourselves of the inhibitions and discharged all of the animal emotions and toxic waste. Resonance is coming!"

Power Of Omens - Original Bassist Matt Williamson Loses Battle With Cancer

Guitarist David Gallegos of defunkt San Antonio bases prog-metallers Power Of Omens has issued the following statement in regards to the passing of the band's original bassist Matt Wlliamson:

"It comes with great sadness to announce the passing of one of my dearest friends... Matt Williamson.

As many of you know, he had been diagosed with terminal cancer almost 2 years ago, and was only given 3 months to live at that time... but Matt's determination to fight this and win the battle was evident in his amazing struggle to survive almost 2 more years after his diagnosis.

Unfortunately, as I just found out this morning (December 14th), Matt lost his battle this past Saturday, December 9th.

He was an incredible person, a great friend, and an absolutely amazing bassist and musician. He will sorely be missed by his wife, family, as well as his Power Of Omens family."

Former bandmate and current Zero Hour vocalist Chris Salinas states, "Matt was a great person and great friend who also served our country proudly in the Army. He played a key role in the writing proccess of the first Power Of Omens CD. Things were never the same when the country called his name and he had to leave. I love you Brutha and I will miss you. You will live on through music forever."
