Suicidal Angels - Update From The Band

Suicidal Angels have posted the following update:

"We regret to announce that our supporting appearance under Septicflesh is cancelled. For reasons beyond the band, we won't have the pleasure to perform under this great Greek death metal group, which we want to sincerely thank for the invitation and wish it all the best for January's show.

However, we will perform live again soon! We are happy to have been presented with the opportunity to play live with German neothrashers Dew-Scented, on February 27 at Texas Necropolis in Athens. This will be the last Suicidal Angels show for a while, as we will start production of our new album in early Spring, which we hope to release later in 2009. The songs are ready, we like them a lot and we can't wait to record and present them to all you maniacs out there!

So join us on February 27th for our final show comprising mostly of "Eternal Domination" tunes (along with some songs we haven't played for a very long time), as we promise to give it our best to thank you all for the incredible support you've shown us, especially for the warm welcome of our debut album, which will always pose as a landmark in our course. Together with mighty Dew-Scented and the other great Greek supporting acts, we'll try to make it a night to be remembered."

Within Temptation - Update From The Band

Within Temptation have issued the following update:

"Unfortunately we have to announce that, due to family matters, Stephen hasn't been able to rehearse with us for the upcoming theatre tour. That's why Stephen has asked Mike Coolen to replace him for the rehearsals and consequently also for the theatre tour. You might have seen Mike Coolen (Brotherhood Foundation, Daybroke) with us before, as he replaced Stephen during a few shows last year. We kindly ask you to also give Mike a warm welcome!

Speaking of shows, the upcoming theatre tour will be our last tour for a while. The upcoming year we will focus on writing new songs and work on recording a new album. We have done over 180 shows in 40 countries in the past 2 years. New continents have been visited (like the United States, South-America and Russia) and we also did shows in Eastern Europe for the first time. The Black Symphony concert with the Metropole Orchestra in Ahoy Rotterdam has been an absolute highlight. We're still very proud of the amazing DVD and Blu-ray in which it has resulted. It have been two intense, but amazing years and we'd like to thank you all for giving us your warm welcome and support!

In short, due to all the touring we have done, we haven't been able to work on new songs and that's why we now want to focus on that. We'd also like to go on holiday for a change as we haven't been able to do this in the past years. Besides writing new songs, there will also be more time for individual side projects. Ruud will be busy with his band 'For All We Know' and giving guitar lessons. Stephen will be busy with his band My Favorite Scar and Jeroen will study 3D Design. Of course, this will bring in a lot of new inspiration for everybody.

Of course we will frequently update you all on all the developments with regards to the new album. So keep an eye on the website and newsletter for our updates. We'll keep you posted! But for now the theatre tour is coming up shortly, which will be very intimate and special. We are really looking forward to this and we hope to see you all there!"

Trail Of Tears - To Enter Studio In November

Original news, posted on 07.08.2008

Trail Of Tears have posted the following update:

"It is with great pleasure that we announce that Trail of Tears will enter Soundsuite Studio in Marseille, France with acclaimed producer Terje Refsnes on November 3rd 2008 to start recording our sixth studio album! The band expects to spend six weeks tracking the yet untitled effort which will be released worldwide on Napalm Records in early 2009.

Comments vocalist Ronny Thorsen:

"We are beyond stoked to enter the studio again at Soundsuite with our fellow Norwegian Terje Refsnes. This will be our third album recording in beautiful Marseille and we are boiling over with creativity and excitement! So far we have about 14 songs ready, with an additional four or five on the drawing board. It will be a difficult challenge to figure out which ones will end up on the final product but definitely something we look forward to."

Due to the preparations, the band has also decided to postpone the planned South American tour in September/October.

Vocalist Ronny Thorsen said:

"We hope that everyone will understand and support this decision as it is the only right one for the circumstances. We want to deliver a full production and a killer live experience when we finally come to South America and not some amputated half-assed shows. It is a known fact that it takes a considerable amount of time to organise such a tour in South America as opposed to Europe, not to mention finding the right promoters. Our main priority now is to set our minds 100% into making this album as astonishing as it has to be and therefore we see no other alternative than to postpone the tour. Please note that we are using the word postpone here, we WILL reach your shores after the new album is released to give you a show that you as well as the band deserves!"

UPDATE (thanks to Abattoir)

As previously announced, Trail Of Tears will be recording a new album. Here is the latest news from the band:

"The studio session for our new album has officially started in Sound Suite Studio in Marseille, France! We will spend six weeks in the company of producer Terje Refsnes recording this, our 6th album and we are really stoked about the material at hand. The plan is to record 16-17 songs in which we will pick 11 or 12 to be featured on the final product. There will also be a limited edition of the album which will include bonus tracks as well as different packaging. Mastering duties will as usual be handled by Mika Jussila at Finnvox Studios in Finland and the album will see a world-wide release next year through Napalm Records."

Stratovarius - To Return In 2009

Stratovarius have issued the following update:

"Finnish melodic power metal "legends" Stratovarius are breaking the silence since guitar player Timo Tolkki left the band. They will return with a new studio album in 2009. It is a positive and powerful record that the band's fans all over the world are certain to take to their hearts.

"After Tolkki gave his blessing for us to go on without him, and after writing music together again this summer and a lot of thought, we have decided to carry the legacy of Stratovarius into the future", says keyboardist Jens Johansson.

"We are all very excited about the record and about playing Stratovarius music live to our fans. We can't wait.", adds vocalist Timo Kotipelto.

The new guitar player is 25-year old Finnish guitar phantom Matias Kupiainen. Drummer Jörg Michael says, "in Matias we found new character who fits perfectly with his way of melodic guitar shredding, he is a killer player, a 'Wunderkind' from Finland!"

The first two festival dates for 2009 have been confirmed already:
Wacken Rocks, Kreuth / Aurich, May 22, 2009
Wacken Rocks, Kreuth / Aurich, May 23, 2009

More 2009 festivals are planned and will be announced soon. These dates will be followed by a concert tour."

In the meantime, also Timo Tolkki couldn't help but meddling in and posted the following reaction to whom it may concern:

"I, like everybody, read today that Kotipelto, Michael and Johansson are continuing their new band as "Stratovarius". I have really nothing else to say except to comment the quote of Jens Johansson "After Tolkki gave his blessing for us to go on without him". I have never gave them any "blessing" to continue as Stratovarius. As I have said many times, I think it is wrong and I would never have continued Stratovarius without Timo Kotipelto, Jörg Michael or Jens Johansson. What Johansson calls a "blessing" was that I gave them the rights to the name I owned and the rights to something like 14 Stratovarius albums. But not as a gift, but as to cut all the ties to them because I was told then that they will continue as Stratovarius which I though was totally wrong towards the fans and of course to me.

They write that they continue the Legacy of Stratovarius, but it cannot be continued. Even I cannot really continue it because it existed only when we were together. It's a shame to see that they cannot start from the clean table like me, but are just using the name. Without that name, they know that they would have it much harder. They took a long time in deciding if they will use the name or not and some of them were totally against using that name. Now that has apparently changed. It is timed very well also to the release of the website of my new band Revolution Renaissance.

Necrophobic - New Bassist, New Album

Necrophobic have issued the following update:

"Necrophobic is from now on a 5 piece strong legion! During 2008 the band did a number of shows as a 5 piece with Erik Danielsson (Watain) as a session member. This made Necrophobic come to think of continue on a new path and develop the live performances as the new live impression was much better.

Necrophobic is now proud to present the new bass player, Alex Friberg, 26. He possesses demonical skills on the bass and fits the band perfect both musically and mentally.

After the enormous well criticized last album "Hrimthursum", the band is now ready to enter the studio again to record the 6th full length studio album. All material is written and the new beast is planned to hit the streets in February/March 2009. The album is yet untitled, but some titles for the songs are "For Those who Stayed Satanic", "Triumph of the Horned", "Wings of Death", "The Tower", "Revelation 666" to name a few."

Testament - Recruit Guitarist For Upcoming Mexico Tour

Testament have recruited guitarist Glen Drover (ex-Megadeth, King Diamond) to fill in for Alex Skolnick on their upcoming Mexican tour dates with Judas Priest.

Due to Alex's prior commitment to the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, the band sought out Glen Drover to fill in. The band rehearsed together all week and sounds sharper than ever!

Glen Drover says, "I am really looking forward to playing these four upcoming shows in Mexico with my buddies in Testament, along with Judas Priest. We are totally going to crush!"

Guitarist Alex Skolnick commented on his (temporary) replacement: "I regret that I'll be unable to perform at Testament's upcoming shows in Mexico this month. As many know, I've been touring with Trans-Siberian Orchestra since 2000, and it's been a blessing to be a part of both projects since reuniting with Testament in '05. I respect the Testament guys' decision to accept some gigs during this period, and I'm super happy to have Glen Drover filling in for me. I recommended him personally, respect his playing and know he'll do a great job. I apologize to any Testament fans for not being able to make it this time around but we have a lot of shows lined up in 2009 so far, all of which I'm on. Thanks for understanding, and I look forward to seeing everyone all over the world with Testament in 2009!"

Eric Peterson (guitarist) commented: "I've known Glen since he played with King Diamond, and if anyone can jump in, Glen can. Plus, Alex is happy with our choice."

Battlelore - Vocalist To Sit Out Tour

Battlelore's vocalist Tomi Mykkänen has posted the following statement:

"To my great regret I need to tell you that I am not able to be part of the Finnish Fire tour this autumn due to family reasons. I will take my personal leave from performing with BLore as of today so I will miss also the three Finnish gigs (Juva, Oulu and Kuopio). The reason why I'm missing the Finnish gigs as well is quite easy; we need to have the replacement vocalist trained for the tour and what is better place to train than gigs? Replacement vocalist? Yeah, there is one and he's Harri (Witch King) from Avathar. Who would be a better replacement than other fellow Tolkien freak?!

Harri is an excellent growler with a deep, strong voice, and a great attitude for live shows. He also sings clean vocals, so he is the perfect session front man! The band will sound just as great as always! Hopefully you'll all make him feel welcomed. Maybe buy him a beer or two?

I will be back in fold for the gig on January 1st 2009. More info on that later.

I feel very bummed for missing the gigs and new countries and lots of new (and old!) fans but sometimes in life happens things that are even more important than touring, drinking and rocking. The things like that are very rare though? Hahah!"

Behemoth - New Video Online

Behemoth's recently filmed video for the song "Inner Sanctum" can be viewed here. The clip was shot with director Mateusz "Mania" Winkiel.

Commented by the band's mainman Nergal: "What's up everybody! Here we finally come with our brand new video? surprised? I fuckin' hope so. I'm still blown away by the effect myself. Why? Coz it looks like NOTHING I've ever seen in the metal genre. Lately it felt like we've pretty much explored every territory in the world of music videos, especially with our last clip for "At The Left Hand Ov God". This time we took completely opposite artistic approach? we went black and white, absolutely no effects, analogue film tape? and something we're doing for the first time ever: acting. I truly believe this bizarre video will show you a little bit different aspect of Behemoth's complex nature. Watch and enjoy!"
