Iced Earth - Festivals Of The Wicked DVD Release

Can Iced Earth fans handle nearly six hours of their favorite metal band? They'll soon find out.

An intense two-minute trailer from the long-awaited live DVD extravaganza Festivals of the Wicked has just been posted to the Iced Earth website. Go check it out!

Festivals of the Wicked boasts nearly six hours of Iced Earth - three full headliner shows (over 40 live tracks!), a photo gallery shot by famed rock photographer Ross Halfin, plus a 90-minute documentary. The DVD will be released early in 2011.

"The last part of the DVD to be completed is the documentary," said Iced Earth main man Jon Schaffer. "Thousands of hours were shot and edited down to 90 minutes. It's very close to done. I have to say the footage of the band on stage is mind blowing. Those who have already seen us will love it. Those who haven't yet seen Iced Earth will be amazed by what this band can do on stage."

Drummer Brent Smedley concurs: "The three festivals featured on the DVD were all extremely remarkable and each one memorable in its own way," he said. "All three were amazing nights where the Metal and the Magic were fully flowing. I think the release of this DVD truly proves my mantra and favorite saying: METAL LIVES!"

Indeed it does.

Festivals of the Wicked shows Iced Earth in its favorite element - facing tens of thousands of screaming fans - and playing songs that demonstrate why Iced Earth fans are some of the most loyal in metal. The three soon-to-be-released festivals are:

Wacken Open Air (2007) with Tim Owens on lead vocals. The blistering 13-song set begins with a jaw-dropping rendition of "Burning Times" and closes with the band's signature track, "Iced Earth."

Rock Hard Festival (2008) with Matt Barlow on lead vocals. This festival, the first to feature Matt's return, storms through 15 songs, with "Dark Saga" leading the charge.

Metal Camp (2008) with Matt Barlow on lead vocals. A not-to-be-missed 16-song face melter of a concert that proves why some say Iced Earth is one of the top live bands in the world.

"I'm very proud of this DVD, and I'm grateful to fans for their patience," said Schaffer. "Getting this ready for release has been an enormous job, but a true labor of love. It will be worth the wait. I promise."

Iced Earth was recently confirmed to appear at Graspop Metal Meeting in Dessel, Belgium, on June 24th, 2011. Additional festival dates will be announced soon! Stay tuned for updates.

Sonisphere UK - The Big Four Confirmed

So yeah, last week we all had a good chuckle at Sonisphere UK's expense when they proudly announced that, uhm, what's-the-name-again will headline on Saturday. But now the organization has revealed the first part of the line-up for Friday: The Big Four.

Yes, it's really true. Sonisphere will be bringing together Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax in the UK for the first time in history to exclusively headline the Friday night at Knebworth.

Last summer saw the live debut of The Big Four kick up a storm at several European Sonispheres, marking what was hailed as "the most significant event in the history of metal" at the time. Such was the demand that a live cinecast of the Bulgarian show saw over 130,000 people turn out to local cinemas, with reports of mosh pits breaking out in movie theatres. The recently released DVD of the event, which features all four bands collaborating on a cover of Diamond Head's "Am I Evil" as well as their individual sets, has only added fuel to the BIG 4 fire, with a frenzied demand for more performances in the countries not fortunate enough to play host last summer.

"Always excited to do big 4 shows", says Slayer's Kerry King, "Now England is in line to be devastated by this heavy metal powerhouse! Can't Fucking wait!!!"

Megadeth mainman Dave Mustaine states: "The Big Four Concerts are the most important, most exciting event to happen in the history of live concerts in our genre, and perhaps the entire music industry. I am glad to be a part of this enormous celebration of thrash, speed, and good ole heavy metal!"

"OH YEAH!!!" proclaims Anthrax drummer Charlie Benante. "Here we Come England! The Big 4 BABY! Can't wait to Get Metal Thrashing Mad for you Thrashers!"

Anthrax bandmate, guitarist Scott Ian concurs: "Merry early Xmas present for us... more BIG 4 shows!!! The shows we did together with our brothers in Metallica, Slayer and Megadeth were not only the high point of 2010, but also some of the best shows Anthrax have ever played. Getting to share this with our friends in the UK will be amazing".

Metallica was quoted saying: "Hanging with Anthrax, Megadeth, and Slayer last summer was just too much fun, so here we are doing the Big 4 shenanigans again and this will be the first time that we will all be on the same stage in the U.K."

Catamenia - New Vocalist Announced

Original news, posted on 25.11.2010

After some major line-up changes at the beginning of October, Catamenia are carrying on and recruiting new members. And it seems like the search for a new vocalist is almost over.

The band checked in today with the following message: "We're down to three candidates with our new vocalist and they are Chris, Juha-Matti and Olli-Jukka. The actual decision between them will be done before the end of the year, so keep on checking our site (or your favorite website Metal Storm, ed.) for the updates!"

UPDATE

Juha-Matti Perttunen (All Against) will be the new vocalist of Finnish melodic black metal band Catamenia.

The band announced his addition through the following statement:

"Thanks to all candidates for the position of our new vocalist since the last line-up change, especially Ash from Agathodaimon and Olli-Jukka Mustonen, but we've finally made our decision. Our new vocalist is Juha-Matti Perttunen from a band called All Against. There was a damn tight fight between the last three candidates, but JM took over everything with his charisma, attitude and especially wide variety of different vocals to cope with our all songs. Welcome to Cata-family, Juha-Matti... the stage is yours!"

Download Festival - Linkin Park Confirmed As Second Headliner

More good news today! None other than "the incredible" Linkin Park will be the second headliner of the 2011 edition of Download Festival, set to take place June 10-12 at Donington Park. And if that wasn't enough, also Rob Zombie has been added to the line-up today. Earlier this month the organization already confirmed the appearance of "the mighty" Avenged Sevenfold, with System Of A Down as the absolute headliners of the festival.

Here's the accompanying press release:

"With the boards brimming with activity over this evening's news that Linkin Park have been confirmed as the second headliner for Download 2011, we've just added one more artist to the bill that's sent the hype machine in to overdrive!

We're thrilled to announce that Grammy award winning musician/producer and director Rob Zombie will perform at next year's Download - an incredible 16 years since he last played the Donington Park site with his then band White Zombie.

Rob Zombie founded the metal band White Zombie and has since carved a successful career as a horror producer and director, notably for movies House Of 1000 Corpses and The Devil's Rejects. He released his new album Hellbilly Deluxe 2 earlier this year to huge critical acclaim.

Fans have been begging us for years to get Rob on the bill - and we're pleased to finally answer their call."

And here's the comment of Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington: "We are very excited to be playing Download again next year. It's one of the best festivals in the world and it's always an honour to play in front of such a great crowd. We can't wait!"

Since forming in 1996, Linkin Park have gone on to win two Grammy awards and sold over 50 million records worldwide, and they recently released their fourth studio album A Thousand Suns.

Sonisphere UK - Second Headliner Announced

Scottish alternative rock band Biffy Clyro has been confirmed as one of the headlining acts at the Sonisphere music festival in Hertfordshire, England. Slipknot has also been confirmed to perform at Sonisphere this summer, including an exclusive UK performance at Knebworth.

Scots rock heroes Biffy "who the fuck is this band anyway?" Clyro will bring their famously energetic live performance, award-winning rock outs and catchy singalong anthems to Sonisphere for the first time, for an exclusive headlining set on the Saturday night.

The announcement comes hot off the heels of a massive arena tour which ended at a sold out Wembley Arena on Saturday night. With latest album Only Revolutions going platinum in the UK and earning a Mercury Prize nomination for Album of The Year, plus their second UK Festival Award in the bag (for the Virtual Festivals Critics Choice Award in honour of their Glastonbury performance), Biffy Clyro are on a massive trajectory that will ensure their headline set on Knebworth's mighty main stage is an iconic one in their career.

Rhapsody Of Fire - Reveal New Album Title

From Chaos To Eternity is the title of the new Rhapsody Of Fire full length album, that will be released in Spring 2011 through Nuclear Blast at a worldwide level.

Here's the official Italian-cheese press release:

The 10th studio album of the Italian power metal act will be a new musical masterpiece. Described by the band as the natural evolution of the monumental chartbreaker of 2010 The Frozen Tears Of Angels, the new album will represent an important goal in the history of Rhapsody Of Fire, as it will be the last one based in the fantasy saga started in 1997 with the debut album Legendary Tales.

As usual Luca Turilli and Alex Staropoli will be the producers of the new work. But for the first time, part of such a production (vocals and guitar recordings) was and will be mostly based in Trieste, the Italian hometown of the two founders. The recordings of bass and drums already took place in Wolfsburg at "The Gate Studio" under the wise supervision of their longtime friend Sascha Paeth (Avantasia, Angra and more).

Luca says: "We are really proud to reveal to the whole world that the production of our new full length album is at a very good point already. Lyrically it has a particular meaning for all of us, as with the 5th and final chapter of the "Dark Secret Saga" our band will close its fantasy cycle started 13 years ago. The dark secret will finally reveal itself and for the last time Sir Christopher Lee will give his unique and fundamental contribution to our work.

Musically expect something really special out of the ten album titles. A song like "Ghosts Of Forgotten Worlds" with its rageous and hypnotic guitar riff, will make you breath the dusty atmospheres of the southern ghostlands. "Aeons Of Raging Darkness" is pure melodic chaos translated into music, "Tornado" the greatest technical challenge for each single bandmember and "Tempesta Di Fuoco", the first speed track completely sung in Italian language. For my song "Fantasia Gotica" I wrote and finalized the cinematic orchestral arrangements inspired by the visionary genius of Tim Burton, while "The Splendour Of Angels's Glory (A Final Revelation)" is Alex's choral and majestic track for the perfect finale of the dark secret saga. Our bass player Patrice Guers and our drummer Alex Holzwarth did their best job so far in a Rhapsody Of Fire album. One more word is needed to underline the excellent performance of our singer: in this new release, Fabio Lione will present himself definitely as one of the best and most versatile singers, being able to pass with unique ability and talent from the most aggressive vocals, to clean angelic voices and powerful operatic parts. Once more you are going to be really surprised."
