The album artwork for Counting Our Scars, the highly anticipated brand new full-length release from reunited Swedish Death Metallers Desultory is now revealed. The album artwork and layout was meticulously designed and conceptualized by world renowned introspect artist Travis Smith (Nevermore, Opeth, Amorphis, King Diamond, etc).

In addition, the album cover for Counting Our Scars will also feature an exclusive alternate Slipcase cover, once again showcasing Travis Smith's elaborate and impressive detail to the concept for Counting Our Scars.

Comments Desultory singer/guitar-player Klas Morberg: "It's been more than a year now since we entered the studio to record the first Desultory album in over a decade. This album will write a new chapter in the history of the band and it has been with great anticipation and endurance we have waited for the cover art to take form. We wanted the whole package, from music and lyrics to the visual appearance to communicate the same feeling, and as it turned out, this work had to take time. Now, at the very last hours of this long year, we are finally ready to reveal it all to you. We hope you think it was worth the wait, we do."

Hammerfall - New Album Out In May

In just two weeks, Sweden's most successful Heavy Metal band Hammerfall will enter the studio to record the follow up to their gold album No Sacrifice, No Victory.

The songwriting is almost finished, and guitarist Oscar Dronjak reveals: "The new material contains a lot of fresh ways to look at the musical ideas, we're trying to preserve the essence of what HammerFall is while at the same time updating the execution and approach. Definitely heavier and less straight forward than the previous albums, yet remaining true to what we believe heavy metal is all about."

Expect the unexpected! The quintet also decided to work with a new producer, which is significant since the last four albums have been produced by Charlie Bauerfeind. The choice fell on James Michael, who recently worked with Mötley Crüe, Scorpions, Meat Loaf and others.

James Michael comments: "We are about to make a fantastic album. The band is firing on all cylinders and I am excited to be part of this project."

Oscar Dronjak explains: "Working with James Michael is going to be very, very exciting. The two Mötley Crüe album James has been involved in (songwriter on New Tattoo and songwriter/producer on Saints Of Los Angeles) are great, and easily stack up against the classic albums of the 80's. That, and the fact that HammerFall have used the same producer (Charlie Bauerfeind) since 2002 has me very psyched about this collaboration, it will automatically bring a freshness to the proceedings! A lot of what HF was got refined when we started working with Charlie, and I'm sure we'll get a similar kind of reaction here. Sort of like a kick in the ass, to get going in the right direction."

Vocalist Joacim Cans adds another important aspect: "I see James Michael as one of my favorite singers of today and his work with SIXX:AM is simply fantastic. Not only is the album one of the best ever made production-wise, but James also delivers a vocal performance that most singers today are not capable of. James will be the perfect co-producer for us and I really think he will be able to get me up a notch in the vocal department"

The yet untitled record will be released in Europe on May 20th.

The Gates Of Slumber - Working On New Album

Official press release

Celebrated "True Heavy Metal band" The Gates Of Slumber will enter England's Orgone Studios with producer Jaime Gomez Arellano (Ghost, Angel Witch) later this month to lay down tracks for its forthcoming new album. The follow up to the Indianapolis trio's critically acclaimed LP Hymns of Blood and Thunder will see a spring, 2011 release via Rise Above Records.

The Gates Of Slumber recently announced the addition of new drummer, "Cool" Clyde Paradis into its ranks. A New Orleans native and Hurricane Katrina survivor, Paradis joins The Gates Of Slumber hot off stints in Sourvein, Substance Abuse and the New Orleans blues act T-bone and The Rhythm Makers.

"The new music is taking on a more troglodyte doom metal feel," exclaimed The Gates Of Slumber frontman/guitarist Karl Simon. "With Clyde now in the band, the feel of things was bound to change; he's not only a different drummer, but from a totally different school of thought with regards to the drums. It's no secret that Saint Vitus' shuddering doom crawl was the root that inspired this band and we'd both felt that over three albums we'd taken the raw epic feel as far as we could. Now, it's time to get back to basics, shed some of the bulk and get ugly again. No warriors this time, no acoustic guitars, no keyboards, no lofty Nietzschean ideals. Just black bile and a bit of the old 'white magic; black magic'."

Hexen - Sign With Pulverised Records

It is finally now official: premier LA Thrash outfit Hexen is now a part of the Pulverised Records home of the Extreme Metal elite roster.

Formed in 2003 and with 4 demos and the brilliant 2008 full-length debut State Of Insurgency later, Hexen is now all geared up and preparing to enter the studio for a brand new second as-yet-untitled full-length album that will see the light of day in 2011.

Hexen's brand of blistering Thrash Metal caught the Metal community by storm with their intellectual and thought-out songwriting, and showcasing the fretboard virtuoso twin-axe attack of Ronny Dorian and Tak Arayan; very much reminiscent of Megadeth during their heyday. Having already proven that they are not your average Thrash band, their upcoming sophomore release will promise that the border is going to be pushed once again.

Having recently wrapped up a massive 30-day Thrash & deTOURED 2010 tour trekking across USA with Rattlehead and Mantic Ritual, the band is now in the midst of preparing another extensive tour in support of Bay Area Thrash legends Death Angel on their North American Retribution 2011 tour, alongside Bonded By Blood, Lazarus A.D. and Early Man.

Watch the entire Hexen show filmed at the Knitting Factory on 4th of August 2010 during their Thrash & deTOURED 2010 tour at the following locations:
HeXeN live at the Knitting Factory: | Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 |

States Hexen singer/bass-player Andre Hartoonian: "Metallic hails from Southern California world of heavy metal! We are excited to announce inking a deal with our new partners Pulverised Records as of October 2010. We have a lot of plans, the first order of business being entering the studio in a few short weeks. We cannot wait to unleash the album we have been working on for a long time and even though we usually don't like to over-hype, the fact that it will blow you all away is still an understatement.

Another thing is going on tour January-February with our friends Bonded By Blood, Early Man, Lazarus A.D., and the outstanding... Death Angel. Check back with us on our MySpace frequently to catch all the latest news and studio footage. 2011 is going to be an extravagant year for us. We cannot wait."

Comments Pulverised Records A&R Manager Calvin: "Hexen's mighty debut State Of Insurgency CD along with some of their demo tracks were sent to the Pulverised's office sometime ago and we were jaw-dropped by Hexen's sound, and we knew in an instant that we had to pick these guys up.

Structure Of Inhumanity - Check Out The New Video

US Melodic Death/Power Metal band Structure Of Inhumanity - featuring in its ranks members from Pyramaze, Arsis and Suspyre - are debuting the Scott Hansen directed video for the song "The Ruin" taken from their upcoming debut album Completion Integration.

The band was formed in 2005 by Jonah Weingarten (keyboardist known for Pyramaze and Lilitu), as part of his vision for creating a unique sounding blend of melodic death, progressive rhythms, powerful heavy metal, and cinematic orchestration. Joined by Noah Martin (bass/growls - from Arsis), Clay Barton (clean vox - from Suspyre), guitarists Mike Iuzzolino and Brandon Ellis as well as drummer Gabriel Marshall (Suspyre), Jonah recorded the album together with James Murphy (Testament, Death, Obituary) and Peter Wichers (Soilwork, Warrel Dane). Murphy is also mixing and mastering the album.

In early 2010 the band shot two videos for the album, of which "The Ruin" is the first one to be shown in public.

At the moment the band is looking for a record deal for the release of Completion Integration. Cover artwork can be viewed here.

Commented Structure Of Inhumanity mainman Jonah W: "We are thrilled with director Scott Hansen's interpretation of the song, he really knocked this one out of the park. In addition to the outstanding musical production skills of Peter Wichers and James Murphy, and of course James' slamming mix and master."

The Autumn Offering - Are Calling It Quits

Matt McChesney, vocalist of US metalcore act The Autumn Offering, has issued an official statement announcing the band is taking a "long break," and quite possibly even breaking up. Here's the full message:

"Due to guitarist Tommy Church leaving the band, as well as a million other things, we have decided to take a long break. Possibly just end it, depending on what happens. We haven't been dropped by our label or anything, we are just burnt out.

There is no reason to go on and on with bullshit, we are all friends. All you guys know we love you. Personally, I wish everyone well, in whatever they choose to do. As for myself, I have a new band with guitarist Jesse Nunn. We will enter the studio next month with producer Logan Mader to start our new record. It's not going to be a metal band, as I am personally done with metal for awhile. I'm disgusted with the state of it, and I dont want to be a part of it.

I've always been a well rounded musician, and the early 90's movement of bands such as Soundgarden and Alice In Chains have always held a special place in my heart. I've always wanted to front a rock band, and I'm exited to start. There's been quite a bit invested into this project by some powerful people, so the pressure is on. We plan to deliver. I'm sure whatever Brian and Tom decided to do, it will be rad. They are great musicians. Matt Johnson has become quite the engineer, I'm sure he will leave his mark.

Take care everyone, it's been a blast."

The band released a self-titled album on August 31 via Victory Records.
