Porcupine Tree new album update

Recording and mixing of the new Porcupine Tree album is now effectively complete. As previously announced 14 new songs have been recorded, and only the task of selecting, sequencing and mastering the final running order remains (at least 3 or 4 songs will not make the album and will be held over for issue elsewhere). A 5.1 mix should also be completed in time for a simultaneous release. The as yet untitled album will be worldwide release by Lava/Warners in January.

"In Absentia" award
The multichannel mix of Porcupine Tree's "In Absentia" was recently awarded a Surround Music Award (SMA) for the best surround mix (non-orchestral) of 2004. The awards, held in Los Angeles, recognize the most outstanding surround releases of the year; the award committee is a panel of expert judges that include personnel from Sound & Vision, Pro Sound News, Widescreen Review, Surround Professional, NARAS, USA Today, Highfidelityreview.com, and Los Angeles-based radio station KCRW.

Congratulations are in order for Opeth frontman Mikael Åkerfeldt and his wife Anna, who became the parents of a baby daughter, Melinda, this past Monday (Sept. 13). It is the couple's first child.

As previously reported, Åkerfeldt has started writing material for the group's next album, tentatively scheduled to be recorded sometime in the early spring of 2005. Ensiferum: Petri Lindroos on board for tour

Ensiferum's second album "Iron" is in stores now. However, there is no album releasing in some countries so if you cannot find the album, ask it from the distributor or your local record dealer.

Ensiferum hasn't yet found a new singer-guitarist, but Petri Lindroos (Norther) has been negotiating with the band if he'd stay as a regular member in the band. It is certain though that Petri is doing the Ensiferum concerts this year.

Type O Negative cancelled their U.S. tour!

TYPE O NEGATIVE's management has issued a statement regarding the postponement of the band's fall 2004 U.S. tour. It reads as follows:
"During a recent medical exam, undisclosed anomalies were discovered and it was suggested that Peter Steele, lead singer, bassist and songwriter, undergo further tests.
"As a firm timetable for the tests and the subsequent results is indeterminable, it has been decided to postpone the fall tour to a later date when there will be no foreseeable conflicts with scheduling.
"In the meantime, TYPE O NEGATIVE continues to work on the forthcoming release, the first for new label SPV, due in 2005."
Amorphis were supposed to go on the road along with Type O.

Quo Vadis Details on new album

"Hi everyone,

We are happy to announce further details of the next Quo Vadis record. First of all the title of the album is "Defiant Imagination". You may have heard rumors of the title being "To The Bitter End", however, we felt that the artwork that was chosen for this album, featured on top of the page, embodied the sound and feel of the record perfectly. It also fit with our secondary choice of title "Defiant Imagination". Great thanks to the artist (Skydancer) who has granted us the rights to use this amazing image. The album should be available in stores in Canada by early November via Fusion3/Skyscraper. Below is the track listing:

1. Silence Calls The Storm

2. In Contempt

3. Break The Cycle

4. Tunnel Effect

5. To The Bitter End

6. In Articulo Mortis

7. Fate's Descent

8. Dead Man's Diary

9. Ego Intuo et Servo Te

Finally we will be shooting a video for "In Contempt" starting the morning of Saturday September 18 before our show in Greenfield Park at another location. We will then rush to the show, and continue shooting on Sunday morning! The video should be available in conjunction with the album release. Hopefully we'll be able to post some screen shots for you soon.

Stay tuned for more details."
