To/Die/For - Band Update

After Jape Perätalo's last - somewhat confusing - message, he decided a few months later he will continue To/Die/For after all. What's more, the band is busy working on a new album. Here's the update:

"At the moment, me (Jape Perätalo) and Tonmi "Malakias IV" Lillman are writing new songs. We have a lot of material and in August we will hit the studio in Helsinki for the first recordings.

We have no guitarist(s) yet. At the studio we will use... someone. It is not that easy to find a human being who would be able to work with me and Tonmi, and especially he should not be 'a metal' guy at all.

We are not gonna fill new songs with guitars! (Which does not mean that there is not guitars at all!) This time we will create something new, but it will sound as To/Die/For, for sure. Main idea is that it must be fresh!

Most of the gothic rock scene is so fucking boring that we do not see any reason to continue on that road! So many bands sounds almost same. There is no new ideas.
I do not mean every gothic rock band, but anyway... That is something we are gonna change! We will be melancholy and everything we have been before, but we will renew our music and ways to handle it.

On our MySpace does not happen a lot for a while. We will create new sites when it is right time for it. Now we need all of our energy and time for the new songs.

We are not gonna look for any record label for releasing this album! All we need is find right labels which we could sign license deals with. Now it seems that licenses for Russian, Japan and Finland are already in our hands. And I am looking for new license deals all the time. So... things will happen mainly through our own company."

Souldrainer - Working On New Material

Swedish melodic death metallers Souldrainer have issued the following update:

"We just started to record a couple of more songs at Empire Studio and we will record about 3 songs at a time and let you download it, burn it, give it away and bang your heads to it cuz it's more important to let you hear our new material than wait for a label to sell it to you. We don't need a label to serve you a professional production anyway! In true DIY spirit we will distribute the songs, mainly the digital fashion, but you will also be able to buy a physical product if you want something to put in your hands. Of course to a reasonable price and not the fantasy prices record label would charge!"

Metal Church - Call It Quits

Metal Church have issued the following update:

"To all of our fans and friends... We regretfully announce that Metal Church is calling it quits. The performance at Rocklahoma will be our last show. We have had to cancel the shows scheduled for August and that, among other things, has led us to have to make this decision. There has been far too much frustration and disappointment in trying to keep moving forward. The collapse of our record company, SPV, has made it next to impossible for us continue in any kind of professional manner due to lack of tour support. This decision was not made lightly. We do have unfinished business in the studio, and with any luck we will have something that will be of interest to Metal Church fans in the near future. We would like to thank all the fans that have stuck with Metal Church through all these years, the line-up changes and the ups and downs. We can't tell you how much your support has meant to us, we appreciate each and every one of you. It's been a great ride."

Kruger - To Enter The Studio In September

Kruger have issued the following update:

"Beloved and gigantic fanbase: some news about what we have been doing the past weeks. Since you might think the answer is "nothing" - it aint'! We've finally completed the new songs for our upcoming album, which is scheduled for... March 2010! Slow dudes, uh? The new baby, still on the incomparable Listenable Records (the only label whose fierce professionalism and reckless humor fits Kruger) will be a hell of beast, made of eight tracks that, we might say, are even a bit more frontal than they used to be. We'll spend this summer to prepare the recording, starting end of September! Keep in touch!"

Rudra - Part Ways With Guitarist, Replacement Announced

Original news, posted on 23.06.2009

Singapore's Rudra have issued the following update:

"Today is an emotional day for Rudra. It is with great pain that we are releasing this news that the band has decided to part ways with Selvam.

We wish Selvam our best in his future endeavours. We are thankful to him for the good moments and for producing 4 memorable albums with us. Rudra is currently negotiating with a few guitarists who could possibly join us. It is a very stressful period for us right now as we are headlining the Tomahawk festival in about 3 weeks. Anyways, Rudra will not let anyone down."

UPDATE (thanks to 28097)

Frontman Kathir from Rudra would like to invite the new guitarist on board: "It is with great pleasure that I am announcing the entry of our new guitarist, Vinod. He isn't someone new to Rudra or the Singaporean Metal Scene. Vinod has played in many bands before and has been known to us for almost 8 years. We are looking forward to writing the new album and touring with him."

Vinod would like to say the following to the fans of Rudra: "It is truly an honour to be chosen and be part of Rudra, a pioneer metal band. The first extreme metal band I listened to that inspired me and made me believe it is possible for local Singaporeans to start a band and be successful. I've known the members for a while. And now being in the band, I'm excited to work with them. Thus looking forward to contribute my part in the upcoming albums."

Shining - Sign With Indie Recordings

Shining has inked a deal with Norwegian label Indie Recordings, that includes the release of two full-length albums, and the release of the first ever official DVD from the band.

Commenting on the new signing Shining's front man and creator Niklas "Kvarforth" Olsson, said "Shining has reached a stage now where we have a considerable following, that is growing rapidly all the time, and I believe we have reached a new maturity with our music, expanding beyond what people expect from us, and we expect to go even further. It was, therefore, time to notch things up in respect of labels. We liked what Indie have been doing for their other bands, and we felt that Shining would be comfortable in a relationship with them".

Malpractice - Working On New Material

Malpractice have issued the follwing update:

"Hey there folks! We are not dead! After a short break we are back in business! We're happy to inform you, that at the very moment Malpractice is writing new material. Jope and Toni got together on May 21st to check out some riffs and to jam, just to see how much material do we have to start with. And things started to happen really fast. After 1 ½ hours at the rehearsal place we had our very first new Malpractice song done!

During that two day session we recorded about 10 minutes of material and so far everything rocks like hell! So it looks really good... The new stuff is pretty odd, but if you like the "Triangular" stuff, you will definitely love the new stuff as well! We are on fire!

At some point we are gonna release (yes, yet another...) diary about writing, arranging, rehearsing and finally (sometime in the future) recording the new stuff, so you can follow how we proggres in making of the next Malpractice album. But please be patient, it still might take a little while before it's in stores...

Meanwhile, check out the Triangular-Tour Diary, to see how the last leg of that tour went. Toni will add the rest of the diaries there soon and Jope will translate them in english shortly after."

Lord - Change Drummer

Australian metallers Lord have parted ways with long-time drummer Tim Yatras and have announced that Damian "Damo" Costas will take over the drum stool for the second leg of their current tour promoting their upcoming release "Set In Stone".

"Lord" Tim Grose comments: "One of the things that we all agreed on when Lord was formed was that everyone does it for all the right reasons. If your heart is no longer in it, don't wait until it impacts on our friendships or the stability of the band, speak up and if it's time to move on, then so be it; no hard feelings at all.

"T.Y. injured his back recently after some excessive partying after a gig earlier this year which caused him to miss a few shows. This break gave him time to think about his life and he came to the conclusion that he wasn't feeling the hunger for Lord any more and wanted to try other things. We remain great friends and are all very sad to see him go, and wish him all the best with his other projects and whatever band he will no doubt be playing for next. In my opinion he is one of the best metal drummers in Australia, so it won't be long until he's out and about again tearing up the stage.

"We'd like to introduce everyone to our new drummer Damian "Damo" Costas. Damo has been a long-time fan of Lord and DUNGEON prior to that and his previous bands had supported Lord several times. We would often remark on what an amazing talent this guy had and that if he kept at it, he would be something special. When T.Y. was forced out of playing live for us, Damo stepped in with just one rehearsal and played our set flawlessly, having already known the entire Lord and Dungeon back catalogue back-to-front. After T.Y. announced he wanted to leave, Damo was the logical choice as his replacement.

"T.Y. will continue to play with Lord until the final gig on the first leg of our "Set In Stone" tour on June 12 in Sydney, and from that point onwards Damo will be the new face behind the kit. We'd love everyone to come along to wish T.Y. a fond farewell and a warm welcome to Damo."

Dark Funeral - To Enter Studio Next Month

Dark Funeral have issued the following update:

"Finally. We have a date set for our much delayed studio session... On July 10 (yezz, the day after we play the Rockweekend Festival in Kilafors, Sweden) we will enter Abyss Studio together with Peter Tagtgren to begin the recording of our new, yet untitled, full-length album.

At this point of time we have demoed 7 new and totally amazing (of course) songs and we got an 8th almost done. Besides that, we have quite a lot of additional material written that we hopefully will be able to turn into a killer track or two before our studio time runs out.

As I previous mentioned, the new album will definitely be our most varied album thus far, perhaps a little bit toned down compared to its precursor, but still carry on with the same spirit and strength as always.

This time we will offer more than one non blast beat (means heavy song) too. And some of the material will probably come as a surprise, as it's not all typical Dark Funeral style, which I personally find very inspiring. And I can't wait to nail this new album once and for all.

Once we begin to work at the Abyss Studio we will keep you updated on regular basis, that includes video reports too. Not sure which website we'll use as the main forum for this, but once it's decided we'll let you know of course."

Katatonia - Working On New Material

Katatonia have issued the following update:

"We've been very busy lately writing and completing the material for our 8th studio album and we're proud to announce that Katatonia will enter the studio this summer, starting in a studio in the south of Sweden with drums courtesy of Daniel on June the 10th. We'll then continue on the remainder of the sessions in a studio here in Stockholm further through july and wrap it up in august.

We'll keep the info short for now as we'll launch a studio diary to give you all the in-depth information and details on the album making incl album/song-titles, audio teasers, album artwork and also our tour plans along the recording process. We can already confirm that initially 13 tracks will be recorded and a seIection of 11-12 songs will make it onto the album. We got a few big surprises to reveal and we're confident this material is our most varied, diverse and possibly strongest shit all together on one and the same album. The release date is set for late October on Peaceville."
