Krallice - Complete Work On New Album, New Song Online

Official press release

Krallice have completed work on their new album "Dimensional Bleedthrough".

Featuring guitar wizard Mick Barr (Ocrilim, Orthrelm, etc...) and New York's new renaissance/man-of-all-trades within the underground metal scene Colin Marston (Dysrhythmia, Gorguts, Behold... The Arctopus, etc...) and now rounded as a full-line up with drummer Lev Weinstein (Bloody Panda) and bass player Nick McMaster (Astomatous), Krallice have created an album that goes much beyond the eponymous debut and have taken their hypnotizing progressive blackgaze into more transcendental, epic, and ethereal territory.

Like the debut times ten, "Dimensional Bleedthrough" is a more intense and much more involved album with its myriad of insane counterpoint and guitar acrobatics. Indeed there is a lot to absorb with this album as there is no let up whatsoever in it's 77 minute discourse. Whereas in the beginning, Krallice was seen as the "black metal band of Mick Barr and Colin Marston" (for the record, they don't really consider Krallice black metal), with "Dimensional Bleedthrough" a more complete band feeling unearths itself courtesy of the stunning rhythm section provided by Weinstein and McMaster (who also does vocals on the new album) and has helped intensify the Krallice sound, one in which they have now defined as their own by converging the styles and influences from all said band members' respective repertoires.

Still the black/death metal influence is still inherent in Krallice's massive sound canvas, along with influences that range from such acts as Voivod along with the inherent familiar traits that can be heard from all members' other musical projects.

An MP3 of the title track can be heard via our MP3 section.

Look for "Dimensional Bleedthrough" to unleash itself on November 10.

01. Dimensional Bleedthrough
02. Autocthon
03. Aridity
04. The Mountain
05. Intraum

Katatonia - Studio Update

Swedish metallers Katatonia have issued the following update on their MySpace blog:

"It's hard to believe, but it's a fact - the rathole sessions are over, we're done! David "King rat of the rathole" Castillo, Jonas and me have spent the longest studio sessions this far with nearly every hour of the day (or night) since we finished up with the vocals. Picture this: Mix down, reference listening, un-do, re-do, mix down, reference listening, repeat x 100. There's always something you find to correct, whether it's one drum hit that's not loud enough, or a backing harmony that doesn't cut through, or a frequency in the bass that makes the rathole sound like a steamboat, yeah basically hundreds of things that fight for their position and balance in the sound picture. One song even reached a staggering 136 (!) active tracks. That's quite a contrast to the days were we were given 16 tracks for the whole package. Everything has to be optimized and you end up going back and forth improving and updating versions of the mix to replace the previous efforts and you can do this for eternity, unless you have a deadline. We just managed to complete the mix at the very last day and let me tell you, the album sounds fan-fukkin-tastic! It's heavy, punchy and crunchy. It sounds very 3D in headphones. We put this album back to back with a couple of other band's albums and it is either right up there sideways with them, or it simply sits with it's azz on their faces. Crushed!

The last two days was spent on the final stage - mastering with Jens Bogren twiddling on his knobs down Fascination Street in Örebro, while we were stand-by in the rathole for urgent repairs an reference listening.

Uploading and downloading the files of the whole production via ftp enabled us to communicate and do the same things we normally would, but now in two different towns. Can't say no to ez living for the hard working modern man. After about 4 attempts, we got there. The album has now been approved by everyone. It got the green light and now in peaceville's hands. Our work is done, yet it has only just begun. On Saturday the band will hook up and we'll have a private pre-listening session with some of our friends and colleagues and celebrate we're done! Then on Monday we'll have an official pre-listening session all day as Peaceville will fly in journo's from the daily papers, music magazines and radio stations from around Europe. A few photo sessions will round up that night. Then next week it's time for the mini-site to go online. Are you ready?

Mantic Ritual - Part Ways With Vocalist/Guitarist, Temporary Replacement Announced

Official press release

Pittsburgh-based old school metalheads Mantic Ritual just announced the departure of founding member/singer/guitarist Dan Wetmore.

All scheduled shows will take place as planned.

The band issued the following statement: "After much consideration, Dan has decided to no longer continue with Mantic Ritual. We are greatly appreciative of his tremendous contributions to the band and wish him the best in his future endeavors. For the upcoming tours this fall, our good friend, Dave Watson, will be filling in as singer/guitarist. We've known Dave for quite some time, and besides being a killer musician, he's an outstanding sound engineer as well (he mixed our 2007 self-released demo, "Executioner"). We have no doubt that Dave will be a perfect fit for us these next few months, and that the band will continue delivering fist-pumping rock 'n roll like it's 1955."

Commented Dan Wetmore: "It has been hard for me to make this decision as I love Adam, Ben, and Jeff and the music we've made together. I've always been dedicated to the band and truly enjoyed playing and writing material. Still, I've had the desire to focus on photography for quite some time and I don't see myself spending life on the road. It is my personal choice to leave the band and return to school. Despite conflicting feelings, I know currently, this is the best decision for me. The outcome is very hard to face, as I've enjoyed the past five years and progress we've made. I'm sure some might think I'm crazy or stupid, but I'll eat that. The guys are dedicated and I'm positive they'll do well with Dave taking my place. All the best to them, they're my pals."

Finntroll - Sign With Century Media Records

Official press release

Finntroll, Century Media Records and King Foo Entertainment announce the signing of a worldwide deal to unleash the next three Finntroll albums.

Jens Prueter, Head of A&R at Century Media Europe: "We are proud to sign Finntroll worldwide to Century Media Records. We started working with them in 2001 when we licensed "Jaktens Tid" and the following two albums from their previous label Spinefarm for release in Germany, Benelux and North America. Since then we became good friends going through great times like a massive co-headline show at Wacken 2006 (to be seen on the "Ur Jordens Djup" bonus DVD), the experience of a Fisherman's Friend Vodka Cocktail and many other great moments blurred by further alcohol abuse. And we also went through bad times like Teemu "Somnium" Raimorantas funeral, the day we had to bring Tundra to a doctor because his infected feet was already smelling bad and the Earthshaker Roadshock Tour 2007 that was cancelled after a few shows because of disastrous organisation. Apart from that, we just love Finntroll for their unique dark blend of traditional Finnish hoedown-music and folky black metal. There are only a few bands in metal that have such a unique style and we can't wait to hear the upcoming album. Kippis!"

Finntroll adds: "Yeah, that's right peeps. We're most enthusiastic to announce our signing with Century Media Records. We decided to continue our long co-op with Century Media, thanks to Jens 'very special' Prueter and Mr. Rosie of King Foo. Finntroll felt it's time to work directly with Century Media this time as we have all the trust with them and they have never let us down in the past. Our new album will be released worldwide through Century Media in early 2010, and with that said we're gonna do some heavy touring, that's gonna start in February in Europe and after that we're gonna sail across the ocean to North America. See ya on the road!"
