Deathwitch - Statement on promo CD controversy

Dan Slaughter, drummer of the Swedish "raw, bestial death metallers" DEATHWITCH, has issued the following statement regarding the group's most recent CD, "Violence Blasphemy Sodomy":

"I have received a lot of negative reactions from journalists and press because of a line on our promo CD of our latest album 'Violence Blasphemy Sodomy' released by Earache Records/Wicked World. The line is 'Note to Journalists: DEATHWITCH don't give a FUCK what you think."

"This was written by some one working for Earache/Wicked World and was NOT approved by me or the band. I didn't know a FUCK about this line until I got reactions on it and finally got the promo my self. So that line do not comes from the band! We hate it and of course we care about journalists and especially the underground scene. I think it's a very stupid thing to write on a promo CD. Then why send promos???

"So FUCK this shit and hail the metal of morbid death!"

Entombed confirms bassist departure

Sweden's ENTOMBED have issued an official statement confirming the departure of bassist Jörgen Sandström.

According to the statement, "Jörgen has decided to quit touring and left the band on good terms. this does not mean that Jörgen will leave the music business as he is still a member of the bands THE PROJECT HATE & KRUX and will still be involved with the Threeman label and the ENTOMBED homepage."

The statement also confirms our previous report that Jörgen's replacement in the band will be Nico Engelstrand, formerly of TERRA FIRMA. Nico was involved with the band before in the producer/engineer capacity for such albums as "Uprising" (2000) and "Morning Star" (2001).

Nico's live debut with the band will take place this Sunday, February 1 at the Zodiac in Oxford, U.K.

The notorious Black Metallers OLD MAN'S CHILD with their album "In Defiance Of Existence" are amongst the nominees for this year's Metal-Grammy "Spellemansprisen" (http://www.spellemann.no) in Norway. As they are one of the veterans of the Norwegian Melodic Black Metal scene with now five influential albums plus a MCD under their belts, the band around Mastermind Galder (guitar/vocals) surely deserves this honor.

Timo Kotipelto Has Completed Work on His New Album

From Blabbermouth.net

Former STRATOVARIUS singer Timo Kotipelto has completed work on his second solo album, tentatively due in the spring through Century Media Records.

The as-yet-untitled follow-up to 2002's "Waiting For The Dawn" (issued under the KOTIPELTO banner) reportedly features "more or less the same" recording lineup as that on the debut, which featured contributions from Mike Romeo (guitars, SYMPHONY X), Roland Grapow (guitars, MASTERPLAN/ex-HELLOWEEN), Arjen Lucassen (guitars, AYREON), Sami Virtanen (guitars, JOE DOAKES), Jari Kainulainen (bass, STRATOVARIUS), Mirka Rantanen (drums, TUNNEL VISION), Gas (drums, H.I.M.), Janne Warman (keyboards, CHILDREN OF BODOM) and Mikko Harkin (keyboards, SONATA ARCTICA).

Commenting recently on his departure from STRATOVARIUS, Kotipelto said, "I know a lot of fans are sad about this situation. And I really am SORRY about it. There are a lot of things in the world that I alone can't control... One thing is for sure, it's not about money. The problems are somewhere else." Regarding his final appearance with STRATOVARIUS at the upcoming Piorno Rock festival in Spain on February 28, Kotipelto said, "Unfortunately, yes, I have to . I have signed the contract . But I try to give my best to the fans. I don't care what happens at the backstage..."

Destruction - Upcoming DVD

DESTRUCTION frontman Marcel "Schmier" Schirmer recently gave the group's official web site more information about the German thrash metal band's upcoming live DVD, "Live Discharge - 20 Years Of Total Destruction".

According to Schmier, "this DVD features DESTRUCTION material from all eras including myself on vocals. The fans themselves did vote for those tunes, so we hope your favorite is not missing out. We did try to catch that energy of a thrash show rather than just recording the most perfect, clean and flawless concert. This is also one of the reasons why you will find three different events in our LIVE section . . . Together with the backstage and 'on the road' footage you will get a nice extra look behind the curtain of a DESTRUCTION show.

"This is ain't fake! We are living our music to the max and you will surely have your 'nice' entertaining moments.

"The bonus material includes our two first ever video clips: 'Desecrators' and 'The Ravenous Beast', an Australia tour special done by the OZ Metal Warriors, an intense interview - history, some leftovers from other shows (like older cuts with Sven on the drums) and of corpse some very old, glorious footage from the '80s!"
