Still boring as always. Their sound is so middle-of-the road with zero personality, I totally fail to see the appeal of them... oh wait, they're full of pedigree musicians to blind people's reason once again

I think you're under the illusion that the whole of the internet is prancing around hiding elitism under silly emoticons. If it upsets you that other people appreciate music that you do not, for reasons that you apparently cannot understand, you should probably unplug your computer for a while and reassess the way you communicate with the worldwide web at large.

Oh, and here's my obligatory ;O

You misunderstand; I've never made any attempt to hide my elitism. In fact I pride myself on it. Unfortunately people like you seem to personally take offense at criticism levelled at bands and others. Something I've always been confounded and amused by.

Also: where on Earth did you get the impression that I'm upset about people enjoying music I don't? I would have thought the fact I relish a good debate would be more than apparent in my comments (particularly my initial one here). In fact I would love to get into a debate with you about this album but you clearly aren't ready as you seem to have taken it upon yourself to police the internet and its inhabitants of their presentation and etiquette. Read this then come back for some discussion about this unfathomably overrated and bland band. Or would you rather continue chastising me on my politeness and informing me that there is no place on the internet for any kind of sarcastic and contentious opinion? Perhaps you should blog about it.

You're welcome to your opinions. We all have them. The only detail I find offense with is how you display them. I don't care about the specifics of the band, and their apparent 'mundane' qualities; that is neither here nor there. What I care about is how you choose to approach it. Can we not enjoy music, without there being some inherent, hidden agenda? Who cares about the lineup, when the band itself brings enjoyment to at least some of the people who listen to it? All I ask is that you don't insult those people for having opinions that aren't yours. Elitism isn't something to be held in high regards, and maybe in metal that's much more commonplace, but that doesn't make it right. Choosing to hold yourself over others is never right. It inevitably boils down to a set of opinions, and one is not "better" than another. We can debate the concept of majority rule, if you'd like, but by definition opinion is simply...opinion.

The nature of forums: to promote discussion. I'm not willing to be another three-word invisible floater full of "in my opinion" comments. I've found that vaguely facetious remarks tend to be far better in evoking thoughts and opinions from others. That being said, I stand by what I said in my initial remark. Sarcasm aside the masses' ability to fawn over bands that have mega-star line-ups regardless of quality is a definite issue, and I consider myself more than in my right to state this wherever I deem it appropriate. There is no polite way of saying people love crap bands because they have people they like in. That's always going to offend someone. Doesn't make the point any less valid though.

I think you have a limited spectrum of the concept of elitism. It's not about holding oneself over another, it's about having a vaguely educated idea of what you're talking about and having an understanding of the concept of quality. Everyone here bitches and moans about Justin Bieber et al and hold themselves over those that like him. That's a form of elitism in itself. I just take mine a little further than that and apply to certain metal bands and popularity tropes within metal. Elitism is just about being confident in your opinions and tastes.
