Is this a demo or is something off with the production? St. Anger snares almost? Also, I noticed the melodies and grooves are far less inspired than the preceding album. The previously released track was far better.

Yeah the production is fine. Better than it being overproduced. Think these guys are coming to my town soon. Might make a point of seeing them.

I was specifically referring to the snare tone which sounds like it was recorded with a mobile in a small closet - just listen to it at 2:00.

Just sounds like it was mixed differently in the new song. There's no "should sound" in music anyway. Matter of preference.

Hi this is Shoi guitarist of De Profundis as this has become an interesting discussion about sound I thought I'd share a little bit what we went for on this album.

Firstly thanks for putting up your comments, apologies for the slightly sharp comment earlier I was in a rush. For the previous album the entire drum kit was trigged using drumagog, which basically standardises your sound and takes away the dynamics. However our drummer Nick uses a lot of dynamics especially on the snare depending on the individual parts so for this album we wanted to keep that organic feel because that's how we think albums should sound like ( and how they used to sound). Today's drum production is in our opinion too sterile and we weren't fully happy with the drum sound of the previous album, even the general production for different reasons.

So yes maybe in certain part the snare might sound one way and in others part a lot bigger but that is Nick's sound and HIS dynamics.

And yes we will be on tour with Demonic Resurrection in July so do come and see us!

Couldn't agree more with your sentiments. Organic production is definitely an increasingly diminishing element in modern metal. Always nice to hear when a band recognises this and chooses that option instead of clinical sound.

I concur with the importance of dynamics, however the tone is just not...tight.

Well I guess then its just down to personal opinion, we like it and more importantly our drummer does.
