Anathema - Premiere New Song, Announce Tour

Today, Anathema has shared two big news. Apart from premiering the first song off of their impending new album, The Optimist, they also announced a European tour in support of the record with special guests Alcest. The new track is entitled "Springfield" and you can give it a few spins below. Just how optimistic are you after hearing this song?

Daniel Cavanagh explains the song choice: "Here we present the song 'Springfield', it's actually the song that closed our unforgettable Wembley gig with Opeth and it seemed to be a track that just fell into place without much effort. It seemed to do itself. The song forms part of a narrative that runs through The Optimist album, it's a narrative that begins where A Fine Day To Exit left off. The album is a journey. The songs are ambiguous. There is no right or wrong way to take them. Make of them what you will."

This is pretty much what you'd expect from an Anathema track by now, nothing really different or new but still beautiful and emotional.
I have a good feeling about this.

Classic loop pattern Anathema uses on a few previous albums... Good song, but it's already becoming quite repetitive.....

Nothing new is good, on the last album they did something new, all those tracks are pretty lousy. This sounds promising.

Reading comments always impresses me, there are bands that have change a lot and the typical commentary is "So dissapointing, they do not play like the 'insert their best album here' era"

Now, that Anathema is one of the most conssistent band out there, well the general reactiom is: "Anathema is repetitive"

I totally respect what people say.

In my opinion Anathema never dissapoints me, their music still sound inspired and emotional, which are the most important things to me.

Really expecting this release and very happy they will come to south America. I won't miss this opportunity

Excellent! I am pumped for another album - June seems far from here. I want them to come to Canada, but I suppose I shall have to go back to Europe to see them.

Honestly i can't see this song(or this new album) being a sequel to a fine day to exit. The music of Anathema has evolved throughout the years and i know that they won't be making music like they used to anymore and that's fine. But the thing that made anathema unique and an amazing band in my opinion was the raw but yet beautiful emotional music that they delivered. But since 'We're here because we're here' this has been lacking. They sound very mainstream and overly-produced, so much that they've lost their real identity.

This new song on it's own is ok without being great for a band that produced such masterpieces like judgement and alternative 4. Also Lee Douglas seems to have taken over so much of the vocals, wasn't she just a backup singer at one point?
I'm still hoping that there will be a few good songs on the new album, without high expectations.
