Shining - Streaming New Track

After finishing their new album, it's time for Shining to unleash a new track! The Swedish black metallers led by the infamous Niklas Kvarforth have just shared the first track taken from their forthcoming album, X - Varg Utan Flock which translates to "Wolf Without A Pack" (out January 5th 2018). The song "Jag Är Din Fiende" ("I Am Your Enemy") will also be released on the A-side of a 10" vinyl single, entitled Fiende (out November 24th). Check out the track below and tell us your impressions.

Mastermind Niklas Kvarforth comments on the new song: "The third track, 'Jag Är Din Fiende', from our upcoming tenth album embodies everything that Shining represents on a musical level. An uncompromising mix of high and low tainted with a sinister atmosphere of horrible unease. Lyrically, this track speaks of the need and means for retribution, making not only this, but the album overall, infused with a nightmarish maliciousness and a pitch-black hatred that hasn't been as prominent on our earlier albums. There is a war coming and this is our statement on what we have in store for you!"

"nightmarish maliciousness and a pitch-black hatred" ? Hahaha...even katy perry writes darker songs than this. Also the fuck kinda production is this?, sounding this clear and with solos its more akin to post-rock than anything.

I don't understand why they are still labelled "black metal". Since 'IV - The Eerie Cold' they've been playing a progressive kind of powerthrash, both musically and vocally. This song fits into that pattern very well and therefor is not my kind of thing.

Despite Kvarforth being a raging douchebag (or so it would seem to me), I really like Shining. I wouldn't classify them as black metal, but then again I'm not sure what I would call them. Depressive metal perhaps? Looking forward to hearing the whole thing in November.

...In what way does this music even compare to post-rock? Even your definition sounds off to me.

In every possible way. Sorry If my wording seems weird to you, I am not an expert at describing genres.

I honestly don't know what kind of post-rock you listen to if at all. This does not sound like any post-rock band I've ever heard specially considering how many post-rock bands don't go for overly clean production and actually have close to no solos most of the time going for full instrumental with mostly riffs and crescendos... So yeah, I still don't know what kind of post-rock you are refering to cuz this sure as hell doesn't remind me of Mogway, Godspeed You, Mono, Sigur Rós, etc.

I wish Kvarforth decided to make an album with dirtier sound. His music can't sound so polished and clean. It doesn't fit.

Ok riffs at the beginning, not much else good to say about it. Then again I've never been a fan of theirs.

Shining sucks with such high production and horrible songwriting like this. Calling their music now "thrash" would actually be kind of right.
