Def Leppard - To Be Inducted Into Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame
The 2019 Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame class of inductees has just been announced! Out of all the nominees, Def Leppard, The Cure, Radiohead, The Zombies, Roxy Music, Janet Jackson and Stevie Nicks will be inducted. The British hard rockers Def Leppard won the fan vote.
Vocalist Joe Elliott of Def Leppard told Rolling Stone: "Now we can stop holding our breath. How wonderful to be in the same club as the Rolling Stones and the Beatles and the Who and Queen... It's a nice badge of honor."
No newly-eligible acts made it in this year, but this was the first time that Def Leppard and Nicks appeared on the ballot (though Nicks was inducted as a member of Fleetwood Mac in 1998). She will become the only woman to enter the Hall of Fame on two occasions.
Def Leppard had 547,647 votes, followed by Stevie Nicks (427,844), Todd Rundgren (365,370), The Zombies (329,052) and The Cure (264,443). According to the Hall's rules, the five top vote-getters in the fan vote are put on a single ballot, which counts no more than a ballot submitted by one of the Hall's 900 or so regular voters, consisting of artists, music historians and music industry insiders.
The induction ceremony will be held at Brooklyn's Barclays Center on March 29th. An edited version of the event will air later on HBO alongside a SiriusXM radio broadcast. Ticket details will be announced in January.
