Nowadays I am tryin' to select progressive rock/metal masterpieces of (mostly) 70's and 80's and I wanna make a good compilation album. There are many legendary bands like Yes,Rush,Genesis,ELP,Camel,Caravan,Jethro Tull,Pink Floyd,Uriah Heep,.. It is a very complex work and I need help from the Metalstormers. I am longing for your favourite songs and reccomandations.

Well, dream theater is always good, and also King Crimson are some Prog rock Masters.

Queensryche for sure. Stuff from the origianl Operation Mindcrime album. I'd say the Empire album but that was a '90s release technically. So, OM it is.

I 've only selected "Dancing With the Moonlit Knight" from Genesis yet. I will try some King Crimson and Yes now. Child In Time from Deep Purple would be a good selection too.

OMG, you choices are endless...let's step out of the main stream and let me suggest a few: progress/rock/ metal is a large catalog of songs but I try to stick to just the 70's / 80's. Players by Culprit Sounds of Silence by Heir Appartant (cover tune) Time by Wrathchild America (cover tune) Ok maybe it would be easier to just list some older groups: Pretty Maids Y & T Truimph ( I like the Blinding Light Show) Crimson Glory King Kobra Tiamat (when did they come out...might have been 90's) Santana Spirit...( almost forgot about them) great stuff Stillwater (they did Mindbender) Alice Cooper (this should be a must have) Wish Bone Ash Scorpions Traffic (Low spark of high heeled boys) Moody Blues I'll stop here but should you still need more? The List can go on!

07.05.2007 - 03:28 Written by Anathemani@c on 19.02.2007 at 12:04 There is no need to talk about Rush..they are the pioneers of the genre and my 2nd favourite band after Iron Maiden. We can add any Rush track from any album to our list.. Considering some less known prog bands will add dept to the compilation

Ok... now go with Kaipa (!!!), The Moody Blues, Pendragon (!!!). Estradasphere, Magic Pie and Anglagard would be well fitting also but it's in/after the 90's...
