These two songs almost encapsulate the continuing battle between Megadeth, Metallica, and their fans. On the one hand you've got the origional "The Four Horsemen" on Metallica's debut "Kill 'Em All" album which was a speedy, furious epic about Hell's messengers. Now, you have to remember that Dave Mustaine was still in Metallica when The Four Horsement was written and had a part in writing it, so one can understand him being pissed off about being kicked out of the band right when it was on it's way up and wanting to write a "F**K YOU!" comeback song to get back at his former band. And sure enough, with Megadeth's first release, "Killing Is My Business... And Business Is Good" came that song simply called "Mechanix" which had the exact same riffs as The Four Horsemen except for the altered intro.

Now, to me, both songs speak greatly of the fued between these two thrash bands, however, The Four Horsemen seems to be more controlled and clean, while Mechanix sounds a bit more sloppy, and rushed (due to its quicker tempo). The reason for this sound was probably Mustaine's being so anxious for his new bands debut to get out as quick as possible so it could compete with Kill 'Em All and possibly Metallica's next record. Regardless of it's rushed sound, you can definitely hear the anger in Mustaine's voice and even in his guitar playing, which makes it an all out angry, aggressive song.

Finally, my choice (since I'm being forced to chose) would have to be The Four Horsemen because of it's overall cleaner sound despite the emotion which is present in Mechanix.

Anything by Megadeth far exceeds that of Metallica. Mechanix is faster and I like Dave's vocals better. Yeah, I said it. I like Dave's vocals.

Oh, there's nothing wrong with Dave's vocals, I also enjoy them. I basically enjoy things that are different and out of the ordinary, including Mustaine's vocals, but The Four Horsemen is still better...

I like both songs, but The Four Horseman is much slower, and it just sound very robotic (Which isn't always a bad thing) but in term of thrash i dont think its a good thing at all. So my vote went to Megadeth's Mechanix, because it is Thrash. Catchy, and fast.

A little correction is in order here. Mechanix was released before it was called The Four Horsemen since Mechanix was the original title for the song, tMetallica only changed it into The Four Horsemen once Mustaine was kicked out. On Metallica's legendary No Life Till Leather demo the song was still called The Mechanix and sounded more like the version which was to later surface on Megadeth's Killing Is My Business album. I don't really have a preference for either one since I think they both kick ass.

Ha, I was just gonna say what Oz has. I won't vote as I haven't heard Megadeth's version, but I don't think I'll like it as much as Horsemen - one of my fav Met songs, fun, cool and beautiful all in the same piece. I fucking love singing along to the solos.

Well I think both songs are awsome but even though Mechanixs is an awsome song and its much faster then the Four Horsemen and I also would pick Megadeth over Metallica any day I have to say the Four Horsemen is much better it is one of the few Metallica songs that can still hold my intrest today. It's lyrics are far superior to that of Mechanixs and the overall feel of the song is much better and I love the parts where it slows down. I do prefer the vocals on Mechanix though because they have a more raw and angry feel to them I think it would be cool to hear Dave sing on the Four Horsemen but I know that will never happen

Megadeth/Mechanix. I like the sped up tempo and think its better than Four Horsemen. Also, Htefields vocals weren't as good as Mustaines (IMO), even though Four Horsemen had better prodcution.

I agree with you 100%. Megadeth can do anything better than Metallica. Megadeth's "Mechanix" is so much better than Metallica's "The Four Horsemen." Mustaine knows what he's doing, Hetfield is just a moronic idiot.

The original is always better than the copycat. I vote for Mechanix. And well, the slower "The Four Horsemen" sounds a bit... well... robotic... while Mechanix sounds great, and it's thrashier

Mustaine's roots are in Finland yepeeee. But I have to put my vote The Four Drunkman 'cause for me their songs are a bit better and they inspired me to try metal some years ago. Both still kick ass!

I also prefer things that's original and stand out, and I like Mustaine's voice, but I still vote for 'The four horsemen' here.
The song Megadeth released under the name 'Mechanix' was almost exactly the one from the old Metallica demo, while Metallica's 'The four horsemen' was greatly improved since that first demo version, since they actually worked with the song, not just recorded it the same way they did on the demo.

The Four Horsemen without doubt. For me Mechanix is just a copy of metallicas verison and is nothing to me. Like metallicas version much more. Everything in the Four Horsemen is better than mechanix.

Okay, I can understand people prefering The Four Horsemen.
But a little lesson in metal now...
Mechanix IS the original version as written by Mustaine when he was still in Metallica. So it is more like The Four Horsemen is a copy (but to be more precise a reworking) of The Mechanix.
