Even though Dethklok is a cartoon band, Brendan Small, the creator, still toured with various others last year to perform Dethklok songs. I think the whole concept is pure genius. The guitar is amazing. I'm not using a poll because there are so many cool songs they have. This topic is for you to clarify what you think is the best song they have, not the worst, and most vital, NO NEGATIVITY. If you want that, you shouldn't be on this topic. Thank you and enjoy.

I think the whole concept is pure genius.

Why? Is it the creation of a metal caricature completely devoid of relevant commentary or intelligent humour? Or the brilliance of creating a metal parody band that can finally appeal to those people who found Spinal Tap too intellectual and pretentious?

Btw, why no negativity? This is a forum where ALL opinions should be able to be expressed.
Also, the same questions popped into my mind as the ones totaliteraliter posed.

I am a fan of the show, I loved the creator's Home Movies, but I must admit that it's only because it has metal references every once in a while. If the show was about a boy band or a rap group, or even normal characters I would most likely hate it.

I can't believe how overconfident B.S. was by actually making a Dethklok album, sure it could be considered a comedy album but that would require some creativity and actual humor in the writing (Coffee is not funny, ask Devin Townsend). I suppose Metalocalypse's best song was that Snakes N' Barrels song where they all are tripping balls... but wait that was only Pickles. I guess the Deththeme is good, William Murderface, Murderface, Murderface, Murderface. Bumble Bee.

I think there is a lot of negativity in the metal community towards Dethklok because people are tired of hearing kids say "Dethklok rulz" and they are the "moost brootal band eva!", taking a cartoon show completely out of context and into a realm that they don't deserve to be. -See Dragonforce.

Dethklok was just a way for Small to have a metal band and to give an excuse for him to fulfill his lifelong dream of touring. The show isn't that funny and the humor seems rushed at times. Home Movies was great but I think it was mostly because of the other writer. The songs aren't anything special at all. their just kinda fun for a little bit before getting REALLY annoying. I've heard the album from a friend. the one that stood out to me as far as catchiness was maybe HATREDCOPTER as far as I remember.

Alrite fine, what would a metal forum be without negativity. people like what they want to like, whose to say what is good and what is not.

My two favorites by them would be "Go Forth and Die" and "Fansong." Both incredibly catchy.

I saw went to one of the shows! hahah so wonderful! I like "Go Forth And Die". I love the shows. I have a few episodes on my ipod. :]

I think Go Forth And Die and The Lost Vikings are the best. Lost Vikings reminds me of Amon Amarth. And of course.. there's Kill You.. I think it's an hilarious "ladies metal song" ahah

Their songs are pretty funny, so far my favorite is Birthday Dethday probably, so many years ago, something crawled out of its pathetic shell....IT WAS YOU, YOU, YOU, YOU, YOU!!!

I'm sorta tied up, but I would have to say Into the Water. It comes in first only because, albeit it is a great song, I just don't like Awakened's guitar solo. Honorable mention to Birthday Dethday.

Blood Ocean hands down. One of the few Dethklok tracks that works outside of the show.

Wow, someone who thinks the same as me! The first thing that came to mind after hearing "the lost vikings" was also A.A. LOL

Anyway, i love the show, i love the "band", and i do think it has amazing songs. Im no KID, and i have many years of metal in my veins, so before any of you smart asses start flaming me, i will now reveal my fav songs:

After listening to their 2nd album, it's undeniable that they possess quality. Definitely one of the best melodic death albums of the (last) year, now more mature and agressive, with the distinct touch of dark humor.

And let me emphasize the last part - humor. Yes, the concept is derived from cartoons the same way of some trash/death/black albums out there in case the "true" metal fans haven't been paying attention. To name a couple in my head, "Ziltoid, The Omniscient" from Devin Townsend and "Sing Along Songs for the Damned and Delirious" from Diablo Swing Orchestra, exemplifies that are metal fans which horizons are broader than just the typical gloomy atmosphere. Why should this band be any different?

They're blacklisted by the elite staff and obviously the reasons are quite easy to figure out:

- Afraid it might draw fans of the serie that barely have any knowledge of metal.

CONS: A good way to draw a newbie crowd willing to learn more than just Dethklok. And let's admit it, if they can deal melo death, I'm pretty sure they can grow the ladder easier than those that start with nu/emocore/metalcore.

- The cartoonist commercialism that derives from it might give a bad reputation to the website.

CONS: This is definitely the main motive, which is clearly contradicted by some band profiles here that sell themselves faster than a crack whore. And ffs, it's melodic death metal, not alvin and the chipmunks.

- The serie portrays all the stereotypes found in extreme metal.

CONS: It's a satire, simple as that. If there's any fan that finds it offensive, then doesn't have an inch of humor in their body. Metal is a genre of music, that like any other, is to be enjoyed and to be taken serious to a certain extent. Overpass the line and you're just as sad the chick that scars Manson on her wrist.

I've never seen the 2nd season and I have yet to complete the 1st, if I'm ever going to do that I have no clue. But I like their music and it's not the concept of cartoons that makes the work behind it less serious.
